I would argue we have a government which exactly represents how crummy we are as a people. We (and our parents and grandparents) sat on our asses and allowed it to get this way. And now we're not going to get the genie back in the bottle.

It truly does. Our politicians ultimately get seduced by the power and the money. They lose all sight of why they began to do this. George Washington wanted people to take time out of private life and serve a limited time and then RETURN to private life. NOT to be lifelong politicians like Pelosi, McCain, Hatch, Biden, Waters, Feinstein, just to name a few. There needs to be a ban on lobbying. Our leaders all become millionaires while in office. Not a coincidence. There needs to be time and term limits. This would also do away with PENSIONS for these greedy people. Politicians need to pay for healthcare like the rest of US citizens, until that can be changed for all of us. They should only be allowed COLA like the rest of us, not to vote themselves raises. And to not be paid if they can't balance the budget. Maybe then, they would actually work for us...
