Anyone who has ever undertaken a creative pursuit will be familiar with the rollercoaster of emotions that is the creative process. Whether it’s creating an exceptional artwork, writing a feature length novel or composing a hit song, the exhilarating, adrenaline filled highs and the hollow lows filled with self-doubt all ring true.
It is this struggle shared universally by creative types which has inspired Paris-based furniture designer Santi Silva to create her truly one-of-a-kind coffee table.
Cleverly named “Writers Block”, the table combines “a unique blend of form and materials that captures the ups and downs of the creative process.” The table is quite literally a giant, scrunched-up ball of paper which is sure to become a focal point of any living area. Toeing the like between art and furniture, the table evokes an image of a irrepressible idea being crumpled and tossed aside by a giant hand.
As well as being a striking conversation piece, it is lightweight, strong and superbly functional. “The geometry of crumpled paper is so inherently strong and complex, it has physicists and supercomputers baffled” says Silva about her quirky designs.
And the text on the crumpled paper ball? It is a page taken from Alexandre Dumas’ 1844 classic The Three Musketeers, a subtle homage to the country Silva calls home.
Writers Block is available on Silva’s Etsy store DashLucky Design.
