Had a required physics class for my majo. It was only offered at 7:40am in the winter. It at a midwestern college where 7:30am in January usually meant well below zero and you're out before the snow clearing equipment. It was quite a shock. Completely different than "home room" at 8:30 in HS.
In all fairness to some of those professors, there are "filter classes". I walked into a class first day and the professor said, "I know my reputation, and I want you to know I am not a mean person. HOWEVER, the University requires me to fail 1/3 of you. Look to your left and look to your right... one of you is not walking out of here with a grade."
I got 28 on a final exam once. Thought I was going to die. Then the profesor announced "I am very disappointed, but I can't flunk you all. High score gets an A and second high scores get a B." The second highest score was a 28.
