“What’s Something That’s Happened To You That Sounds Fake But Unfortunately Isn’t?” (50 Answers) My grandmother prevented the neighbor boy from kidnapping our next door neighbor. Our house was the bus stop. I woke up sick that morning and didn’t go to school. Grandma was the neighborhood grandma and kept an eye on the kids that were at the stop every morning. She was watching the girl at the corner (she was the only one riding that morning), looked back and she was gone. He was dragging her accross our backyard with a knife to her throat. My grandma ran at him screaming and throwing rocks at him while i called the cops. She won citizen of the year in our city.

Never underestimate the will of an old person to kick your a*s. This woman is a legend. I also remember, years ago, reading about an elderly woman in the UK who foiled an attempted breakin at her home by beating the s**t out of the robber with her CANE as he was trying to come in an open window. I think she broke his arm. That and her description of him made him really easy to nab. Don’t ever just assume that, because someone is old, they’re automatically also weak. Chances are greater than you think that they are way tougher old birds than they look—-not to mention the fact that so many older people are keeping fit than before, and many of them also do strength training. They could be as fit, or even a lot fitter, than the average twenty something.

“What’s Something That’s Happened To You That Sounds Fake But Unfortunately Isn’t?” (50 Answers) Not me but my uncle. He was in Jamaica when his wife who was doing fitness classes, died due to a perforated bowel from a meal at the resort and the authorities drove him to an ATM and told him he's going to be suspect #1 if he doesn't pay them and he'll never have his wife repatriated to the US. He complied and they took him back to the resort, unbeknownst to him, T-Pain was also there and caught wind of the situation and worked magic with his connections to keep my uncle safe and bring my aunt home for a funeral, as well as providing his bodyguard protection to my uncle. To this day, almost two decades later, they will video chat on holidays like Easter to talk and in my view that man is a saint to our family. Anytime he's in town they'll meet backstage before one of his concerts and they'll have a big hug. One time he met his family. I will never forget the kindness this man has shown over DECADES, it's insane Edit: sharing a pic of T-Pain hugging my uncle [https://i.imgur.com/4wFcqda.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/4wFcqda.jpg) Edit2: Yes, that is my Uncle. And I want to call out that in 2007, T-Pain was **23 years old** when he did this selfless act. In my opinion that just amplifies the character he holds himself to that you see in his actions throughout his entire life. What an awesome man.

Yea. I've heard something before about him being a pretty decent person. I also think it's pretty nice that he actually has a really good singing voice. I've only heard him actually sing one though. The majority of what he does, at least that I've heard, is auto-tunned, which I've heard he mostly does because people liked it in his music.

I was visiting London with my grandpa and we were riding in a small public bus. And on this bus there happened to be a dwarf. A young schoolgirl (probably because her mother told her to) approached her and offered up her seat to the woman but she rudely yelled " What, because I'm a dwarf!? I've been a dwarf my whole and I've managed just fine without any help!" And the poor girl sat down all red in the face. But awhile later at another stop a woman stood up and before exiting, she tapped the dwarf on the shoulder and said " I'll be getting off now. My seats empty if you'd like to take it." But just as she started to carry on the woman cut her off and yelled "No! Not because you're a dwarf! Because you're a human being deserving of respect! And I must say you were very rude to that poor girl when she was just trying to be nice! And I hope that when you're getting ready for bed tonight, Snow White kicks in your door and kicks your f*****g a*s!" Then she got off leaving the dwarf standing there wide eyed and slack jawed while the rest of us were sat there just looking at one another.

“What’s Something That’s Happened To You That Sounds Fake But Unfortunately Isn’t?” (50 Answers) In 2012 I lifeguarded at a beach in Delaware. I was talking with a lady who was drinking a glass of wine on the beach. While telling her she was not allowed to do that, Dave Grohl walked behind me. I was/am a massive fan and knew he would vacation at this beach, but never assumed I would run into him. In the moment of being absolutely star struck the lady goes “oh you’re a fan of Dave I see?” Barely able to talk I said “yes, he is a reason I got into drumming.” She then said “oh he’s my son, you should go say hi!” I let her drink the wine and I was able to talk to my music idol for a solid 20 minutes. One of the best days of my life.

So she was allowed to do something that others aren't allowed, just because her son is a great musician and really cool guy and you got introduced by her? This is basically what corrupt politicians do, just on a super small and more innocent scale.

It’s what everyone in the right circumstances do. Life isn’t fair and rules are never, ever applied equally & consistently. Which is a good thing when it comes to considering each individual situation, but also a bad thing when it comes to discrimination. We’ve all been on both sides of getting away with breaking a rule and being overly punished for breaking a rule. If it was my job to patrol the beach & enforce this particular rule, the baseline is no one drinks. Those who get caught doing so can either be fined or reprimanded or told to keep it lowkey or told nothing. It would come down to my assessing the situation, their attitude & manner and making a call that’s best for the overall situation. In this case I’d let her casually & responsibly continue doing what she was even if she wasn’t the creator & star of a documentary based off her awesome book.

“What’s Something That’s Happened To You That Sounds Fake But Unfortunately Isn’t?” (50 Answers) I was dragged out of a tent in my sleep by a pack of dingos on Fraser Island in Australia. I woke up to a weird feeling at my feet and saw that they were chewing on my toes through the sleeping bag. One of them was standing on my hips/stomach, staring me in the face. Now, I'm not a fighter, but I hit him such a punch on the side of the head....like, a perfect right cross to his cute lil face. He went flying sideways which spooked all the others (about 4 or 5 of them) and, with a few kicks from my bagged up legs, they scuttled away. I went back into the tent to find my then gf still asleep and snoring away. The next morning, I went over to our tour guide fella, massive Aussie dude named Tony, and told him what happened, and he asked "Didja see which one it was?" And funnily enough I did. He had a yellow and blue tag in his ear (they're all tagged on the island) and I remembered because they're the Wicklow colours, where I'm from. And Tony just said "Aw yeah, that c**t" I ended up punching quite a bit of wildlife in my year there, but Australia definitely started it

I visited that island when I was a kid, and a dingo on the beach tried to run off with my dad's backpack, brazen as you please. When Dad grabbed the bag they ended up having a tug of war before the dingo gave up and wandered off. They're not the least bit scared of humans.

I know a few people who have them as pets. They are really intelligent but a bit stubborn, so they need to be trained really well. They can also jump really high, so you need tall fences. One of my friends always finds her on top of the fridge! I once had a dingo/Australian terrier cross - looked like a dingo but terrier sized.

A few years ago in the same place dingos jumped up in the back of a camper and dragged a toddler outside by his head. The father had to chase them down the beach to get his kid back. The boy was injured but he recovered. The dingos on Fraser Island are dangerous because they're not afraid of people. They're smart too. They somehow knew to jump up on to the back of a truck and open the tent to get to the kid while 2 adults slept there. Scary!

They very rarely attack humans. It usually happens in places like K’gari, the island in this story, where they have become used to humans and more importantly get fed by the tourists. There have been several attacks on children on K’gari. The dingoes that attack get culled.

Had routine stomach surgery in 2015 - thankfully ended up being keyhole, so minimal scarring/drama and the view that I’d be home in 1-2 days max. 2 days later still in hospital, I wasn’t well. Tachycardia, temperature, swelling etc. but got up that morning, had a shower and got dressed as the nurses said it was normal after some surgery to be a little off. Mam had tried telling them (she’s a RN and midwife) that she thought I may have an infection. She was accused of being neurotic. Later that day, started to drift in and out of consciousness whilst they eventually did an emergency CT Scan. Turns out the surgeon had nicked my bowel, I had a 2cm rip in it and was dying from sepsis. Parents were told to say goodbye to me as staff physically ran me through the hospital in my bed and straight back into theatre (I’m talking medical drama style). Nurse had hold of my hand and ran next to the bed, telling me she’d better see me at the other side. They had to fully open me up. Ended up with a 8 inch scar down my stomach, a 3litre wash out, 40 staples, a drain and 2.5weeks in hospital whilst I fought against septic shock and my organs shutting down. Morphine pump, blood transfusions, antibiotics out the wazoo…….. Told me that as I already had PCOS and now I have huge internal scarring, that the predicted infertility was pretty much a 99% certainty now and if by some miracle I fell pregnant, I’d lose the baby/be unable to carry to term. Aside from some scarring on my bowel which can be painful occasionally and the scar down my stomach, I’m tip top now! And I conceived twin girls naturally 4 years later 😊♥️♥️ Survived sepsis, had children and I’m now happier than ever 👏🏻

A medical staff's worst nightmare: careless surgeon doing a "routine" procedure. If you're gonna be a surgeon, the routine is: Don't assume you can go fast b/c you know whaty ou're doing. And that's why I'm in research. Safer for all of us.

One night I felt horrible abdominal pain. It was like period pain, but like 10 times stronger. My boyfriend said we should go to ER, but I said no, I thought it was just my PMS. 2 hours later I finally said ok. After 3 hours waiting for ER, 3 different doctors couldn't decide what's wrong, gave me some painkillers and sent me home. In the morning I went back there, because the pain was still strong. Same thing as previous night - painkillers, go home. In the evening I went back there with the same pain and they decided to hospitalize me. Next morning they performed appendectomy. 2 hours later my doctor was explaining to me that I had my appendix infected, because a ruptured ovarian cyst full of blood almost killed me. Also they removed something from my ovary and sent it for histology. 1.5 months later I went for ovariectomy and my right ovary was removed. My doctor explained that I may never have kids. I was only 21 back then. 10 years later I have 3 beautiful kids!

“What’s Something That’s Happened To You That Sounds Fake But Unfortunately Isn’t?” (50 Answers) I lived in a small quiet town and my house was in a cul-de-sac so all the neighbors knew each other and we all got along well. One night when I was about 12 years old, I was babysitting my baby brothers (twins). It was bedtime so we were laying in my mom’s bed watching a movie to wind down. Suddenly they both start whining that they want chocolate milk. I was super annoyed because I just wanted them to go to sleep so I could be off the clock, so to speak. Just as we walked through the doorway and out of the bedroom, I heard what sounded like firecrackers going off in the bedroom we just left. I peeked my head back in the doorway and heard a couple more. It sounded like it was coming from the closet which was about a foot away from me at this point. I called my mom and told her what happened and that I was scared. We didn’t go back in the room until she got home. Once she was home, we discovered several bullet holes throughout the bedroom- in the walls, in the closet door, and one in the corner of the tv- so we called the cops. They figured out that our neighbor had been doing some target practice in his garage (and drinking) and his garage wall faced our house. So the bullets entered my mom’s bedroom through the wall, just a few inches above her bed, which had no headboard. Right where our heads had been while we were lying there watching the movie. If those little buttheads hadn’t bothered me for chocolate milk at that exact moment, things could have been very different.

Yeah. For all the people doubting it - that's why we live in the UK. No guns, and also, no, you could definitely not shoot through how our houses are built unless you have a tank. Seriously America. I've been on about the paper houses for years but you shouldn't need to be told about guns on this level of stupidity. This is not something kids should have to grow up worrying about. You're literally making yourselves a 3rd world country with your access to guns and lack of access to healthcare. Land of the free my a*s.

I'm pretty sure a reinforced concrete wall would have stopped bullets. Even baked clay bricks would have stopped non-armour piercing bullets.

I broke my humerus while sitting stock still at my computer desk. Bone cancer had eaten through it and it chose that moment to just snap in half. 0/10 do not recommend Edit: just to answer some questions— I did not realize I had cancer at the time! This was how I found out. I had my elbow resting on the arm rest, so I imagine the pressure was what finally did it in. I am okay now, almost 10 years in remission!

A locally famous guy here had pancreatic cancer. He had a wicked sense of humor. So many people wanted to come up & hug him or shake his hand. He warned them hat would never never get over the sound that his bones make when they break. He did beat the cancer. Passed away naturally 9 years after being diagnosed.

Well this is absolutely freaking terrifying. I'm curious to know if you get any kind of pain / warning signs? You'd think your bone basically disintegrating would hurt or at least feel weak but it sounds like you get no warning at all? That is horrific, I'm so sorry.

I injured my hamstring by incorrectly lifting a large bag of cat litter from the bottom shelf at the store. The pain got so bad that I had a bunch of scans, missed work and couldn't get around without a mobility aid. So one night after taking a painkiller and muscle relaxer, I tripped on the bathroom rug and fell on my side. The extent of the pain was masked by the medication, but I wondered if I had perhaps torn the injured hamstring. My husband helped me to bed. When I woke up the next morning I knew something was very wrong. I hadn't moved an inch during the night and couldn't get out of bed. Husband called 911, had a traumatic ER experience (treated like a d**g seeker), had emergency surgery on what turned out to be a broken hip. And that's how I found out I had osteoporosis at the age of 28.

“What’s Something That’s Happened To You That Sounds Fake But Unfortunately Isn’t?” (50 Answers) I was riding my bike around my apartment building as a kid. Ran into some bullies from school. Now as a kid I had a problem with shutting up, I had no idea how, so I pissed them off. So I was riding my bike as fast as possible to get away from them (They were also on bikes) when I got something on the ground and went flying. A few things to note 1) I was a tiny little girl like 70 pounds tops. 2) I was poor, so my bike was used, a bit rusty and most importantly, missing handle bar grips 3) the combination of speed, my weight, and whatever I hit, launched me more up than forward. So I hit something, the bike fell on its side, and then I fell on the bike. Felt like it knocked the wind out of me and I knew it had to be bad because one of the bullied pedaled away as fast as possible, the other one helped me home and saying that this doesn't make us friends on the way. Left our bikes where they were. I didn't care, my mid section hurt where I landed. Got home and my mom turned to greet me and practically screamed that I was bleeding. I looked down and realized that I was bleeding a lot from my stomach and fainted. I woke up at the hospital later to find out that I had landed on to a bike handle which has impaled me through my mid section about halfway through me Missed my organs just barely and left me with a neat scar and a story no one believes until they see the scar.

Not sure about that, as the general advice is that if you are impaled on something, to leave it in. By helping the person up, they could have killed them.

Something similar happened to my mom, except it was from her sitting on the handlebars while another kid rode the bike. Her mother told her to not do it and she did anyway. The bar didn't go into her stomach but actually went into her throat, punctured it a bit, and she was covered in blood.

3.5 years ago, I had 3 guys try to rob me. I was very fit then and had trained in jiu jitsu and muay thai. In the end, I put two of them in the hospital and all three were arrested. I walked away with really bad bruises and cuts, a concussion, and possible broken ribs. During the fight I got hit with a crow bar. Well, when I went to have my ribs scanned, they ended up finding cancer. Stage 4 of an extremely rare cancer that only about 80 people have. I never had any symptoms and my blood work was excellent. Doctors said I had about 1.5 years to live but I'm still going!

“What’s Something That’s Happened To You That Sounds Fake But Unfortunately Isn’t?” (50 Answers) My childhood best friend's mom passed away by drowning. My best friend then died a couple of months later by being hit by an 18 wheeler on the side of the road, her father then died a few months later from throat cancer. Lost my entire second family in under a year due to unrelated incidents. It's been 7 years and I'm still not over it.

“What’s Something That’s Happened To You That Sounds Fake But Unfortunately Isn’t?” (50 Answers) In 1986 my parents planned a trip to Disney in FL, a random man tried to kidnap my half brother by snatching him and running. He was tackled, my brother was safely returned to us and nothing happened to the guy as he disappeared into the crowd. Fast forward to 1989, in Ohio at a pop up circus in a field, I was given change to go get a popcorn. A man dressed as a clown approached me and after several long minutes of small talk grabbed me. Bystanders saw the ordeal and a random man with exquisite side burns chased down this man who had thrown me into his pickup truck and gunned it. Mr sideburns and another man were able to pull him from the vehicle and stop the truck as it rolled into a parking lot and hit several parked vehicles. I was fine other than some forehead scrapes from hitting the dash. The clown was not a circus performer or associated with the circus. He was an opportunistic predator. I can’t even say either of these events were the worst part of my childhood. Also, f**k clowns.

There were four of us that hung out together. We grew up & parted. One of the group died years ago in his 20s. His mother had told people it was an unknown medical issue. Then 2 years ago I go to an estate sale at the one guy's parent's homes. My one buddy is seeing the stuff & our other surviving buddy comes to shop too. We got to talking. Our late friend had killed himself. Not only was he molested by our scout master but the priest from our church too. Why, why was he singled out? We all had those baby faces & would have been prime targets. This guy had no father. The three of us had mean, alcoholic fathers who were all combat vets. They had reputations for taking matters into their own hands. It would never be a police matter. The perverts would have suffered greatly & disappeared.

“What’s Something That’s Happened To You That Sounds Fake But Unfortunately Isn’t?” (50 Answers) Years ago, I broke my right foot. After 6 weeks in a boot, I was leaving the orthopedist office boot-free. Just me and my own two feet, raw dogging the ground. I was so excited to drive home, now that I was out of that damn boot. And then on the way to the car, I stepped off the curb, rolled my left ankle, and broke it.

Last week the boot slid on an actual cricket, forcing me into a slo-mo half-split then ended with me toppling over and landing on my left knee. Kind of like the time I was picking my car up at the body shop after a fender bender. I picked up my keys, got in my car, and promptly backed straight in to another car. My dad was with me, as he had given me a ride there. I don't think I've ever seen him so disappointed in me before or after. He literally banged his head on the steering wheel of his car when he saw what I'd done. I had to leave the car at the body shop and take the ride of shame home with him. :) Thankfully I'm much more careful in my old age.

They splinted me up and I had to wait two weeks for surgery because of Christmas and New Year and then I was off my foot for almost four months. When the doctor said I could walk again I was terrified. My ex and her border collie(!) was herded of a field by a matrone sheep and her cronies. They could not go there without me , because she would step into the path and do a sheeps " thou shall not grass" and then litteraly run them of.

A friend of mine had her ribs broken when a ram decided to randomly slam in to her while she was minding her own business in the field. Apparently he didn't like the look of her. We felt terrible for her, but could not stop making sheep jokes for the next 6 months. :)

“What’s Something That’s Happened To You That Sounds Fake But Unfortunately Isn’t?” (50 Answers) I was born in the early 80s, and during that time they took newborns away to the nursery to be cared for away from the parents. When it was time for my mother to leave the hospital, they returned her baby to her and before my parents left, they needed to change the baby’s diaper. Well, when they removed the diaper they saw that the baby that they had was a girl when my mother had given birth to a boy. The hospital tracked down the parents who had me and got the babies back to their rightful parents. Some crazy s**t.

I wonder how many times this has happened in the past? If I had given birth, I’d probably use a sharpie on the baby’s foot just to be sure! Also with the rise of those home DNA kits, it’s easier to find out now.

In the US, they tag the parents and the baby. You don't get your baby unless the tags match. You don't leave the nursery with your baby unless the tags match. There were some big payouts due to stolen and switched babies and hospitals adopted strong measures. That being said, I still memorized some of my son's features at birth and double checked when they brought him back to me after some procedures.

If the other baby had been a boy they would never have known. Mom might even have been accused of infidelity if the features were way off when the baby was older.

In 2000, after I had my oldest, a nurse left a friend of mine alone in the nursery, holding my baby. My friend had only said she was there to see me, but I had asked not to have visitors. But the staff had no idea if this person was really a friend. She could have been anyone. And they gave her my baby, and left the area. She told me it would have been so easy to just walk off. She couldn't believe it.

When my mum was in hospital after giving birth (don't remember which one of us five), there was a lady that in the morning was given a boy while she had a girl (babies were only taken away at night where we live unless baby needed extra care or mother extra rest, then baby was cared for separately)

“What’s Something That’s Happened To You That Sounds Fake But Unfortunately Isn’t?” (50 Answers) Slept with a boyfriend for over a year (unprotected) and found out he had hiv. Been tested for twenty years straight and I’m still negative. Edit: woke up to a huge reaction, never expected this. I’m going to answer some things here. Yes he knew and didn’t tell me. His plan was to act like I gave it to him. I thought there was no way I didn’t have it so for several years I was in the mindset that I had contracted it. When I was 18 I started getting tested twice a year and have been negative every test. I don’t think I am Finnish or Nordic I should check that out someday. There are so many horrible things that are in this thread, I’m surprised this was even seen. Thank you for concern everyone.

My grandma was a visiting nurse and once accidentally stuck herself with a needle that she had just used on a patient with AIDS. she freaked out, obviously, terrified that she would get sick and eventually leave her two young children behind. She never contracted HIV and is still kicking (and nursing, actually, 40 years later) :)

1% of people with Northern European ancestry have innate resistance to HIV infection. It's to do with inheritance of a mutation in a gene involved in cellular receptors-one of the genes that codes for receptor function is mutated so the virus can't bind to the cells, and therefore can't reproduce. The mutated gene (CCR5) is seen in Scandanavian people more commonly than other groups.

While I was in Army in Hawaii they had a soldier who was HIV positive. He was given orders to notify any & all partners that he had HIV. However there was also this moronic push by certain people that people with HIV had exceptional rights & should not have to disclose it. This guy had sex with 5 married women & gave them HIV. Back then the Army did not cave into the civilian social pressures. He was convicted of sexual assault & disobeying orders.

“What’s Something That’s Happened To You That Sounds Fake But Unfortunately Isn’t?” (50 Answers) I was lying on the beach in the sand when I heard a soft thud next to me. I sat up and saw a half eaten peanut butter sandwich lying next to me in the sand. Wondering where it came from, I looked up and saw, to my surprise and horror, a flock of seagulls descending upon me and the sandwich one of them had just dropped. It was a mad frenzy of them fighting me and each other for the sandwich and me fighting them to get away. The whole thing was over in five seconds.

Seagulls are beautiful... when flying. But they can be the worst scavengers, too. There's a National Park off the coast near where I live, Islas Cíes, that is full of seagulls. They've even learnt to open the excursionists' rucksacks to steal their food. They eat anything, they'll fight anybody to get their food. They'll hurt you if they can and you are in the middle. Do not leave your bags unattended, and avoid them as much as possible.

Not knowing what he meant by that, I went to get ice cream, and saw that every 3 minutes or longer, A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS WOULD ATTACK A RANDOM PERSON with people with food (like me) at even more of a risk! In an old house we were living in, an extremely agitated stray cat once fell through the ceiling (there was a space between the roof and ceiling where small animals would sometimes shelter in) into my parents bedroom. It was so freaked out and started running around the room trying to find a way out and none of us could touch it for fear of getting scratched/bit and had to let it find its way out on its own (we opened all the windows and doors to the outside).

Similar happened to my husband back in 2015. He was playing football (we live in the UK, so English football), went in for a tackle and was kneed badly in his lower abdomen, tearing the mesenteric artery and almost bleeding out internally. He was saved, but in the process, it was discovered he had kidney cancer. It was a truly terrifying time for us all. Without almost dying then, he wouldn't have known about his cancer until too late to save him. Thankfully, and thanks to the incredible NHS, he survived both. He was even back playing football again within a year!

My mum had a shadow at the bottom of her lung X-ray, got it investgated and turned out to be kidney cancer. Despite the negative prediction of 6 months, she lived another 2 years (she had several health concerns cancer the least of them). Still, more astonishing was a story in the newspaper around the same time. The vet of an aquatic theme park received a brand new machine to make an echo of a pregnant dolphin. He tested it out on himself and had to hand over the care of the animals to someone else while he underwent treatment for kidney cancer.

Was told it would never have been found until it was easily stage 4 or 5. Dr. said that when they find something life altering by accident it's called 'an incidental loma'!! Sure glad I had that 'slight' twinge of gun pain that I wanted checked out. Was a life saver. Our guardian angles do step in and help us many many times and ways!!!

Halloween did not exist in Italy until about the last 10/15 years. Candy producers introduced this tradition, mainly. We have our traditions about the dead persons, of course, and we remember the departed on Nov. 2nd. In some parts of Italy, parents would bring their kids presents and candies telling them their dead grannies were sending them. A way to keep in touch

Twice in my life I have allowed my politeness to distract. I've open the door at two businesses I was at over the years for armed robbers. One was at a family restaurant that got robbed just after a group of us left. When I heard the description of the guy I realized I held the for him. Many years later I was at a convenience store in MD & held the door for a teenage boy coming in behind me. He changed his mind & left. A elderly woman behind him said he was carrying a rifle & walked over to a car & drove off.

I wrecked my bike in the summer after 7th grade and had to be mercy flighted, broken bones, quite severe concussion…. I forgot 90% of seventh grade and struggled in 8th, but a weird side effect was that I could music. Before I couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket, couldn’t hear when notes were the same or different, completely tone-deaf, and after the accident I could. I sang in my college choir for four years.

Same thing happened to me after I tripped over a brick, but could not break my fall in time because I had garbage bags in each hand. The first part of my body to hit the ground was the right side of my forehead, followed by my left knee and then the rest of me. I bruised my kneecap, so you can just imagine how hard my head hit. I had 4 months worth of concussion. After recovering from the concussion, having previously been unable to carry a tune in a bucket I could sing in tune no problem and harmony, no problem. I always had a very quiet singing voice. Not now. I can belt it out and I now have range. I looked it up and it can happen if you hit your head hard enough in the right place. It can happen with music, math or art.

I lost my singing voice from coughing due to 5 bad upper respiratory infections in 13 months (not needing hospitalization but needing good drugs fast within 2 days of showing symptoms) Doctors couldn't explain it. I had my flu AND pneumonia shots. That was a weird year medically- the upper respiratory infections; wasp sting on chest while driving to doctor; hitting my leg on a car door getting out, causing a sub-dural hematoma that took WEEKS to go down; oddball shoulder issue- not major but still needed to see doctor; during a rare non-sick time- tried to give blood and the medical person hit a nerve putting the needle in AND taking it back out- I needed a sling for over a week til it calmed down and some other oddball things I've forgotten. Nothing too bad, just one thing after another. My doctor's office started joking with me about the medical issue of the month, or week- I'd ask if I'd get a prize from them next time.

I know someone who just had brain surgery. There was a complication so things were scary. When they came to, they could not speak. The spouse gets a phone call later on from a relative. She sounds great, I just talked to her on the phone. WTF? Yes, very odd. She could talk on the phone but not face to face. She is getting over that now.

“What’s Something That’s Happened To You That Sounds Fake But Unfortunately Isn’t?” (50 Answers) When I was in elementary school we went on a class trip to one of those old colonial towns to see how life was back then for settlers. During lunch break I went to the bathroom and a man paid me to take pictures of me in the bathroom. I was really excited to get money. Next thing I knew I was in a police car scared out of my mind that I was in trouble. I kept apologizing to the cop while my mom tried to calm me down. I remember crying all night that my principal would hate me because I made the cops come. What an odd memory.

That's not an odd memory, that is trauma. Creepy man takes advantage of a young, naive, child who is confused thinking this was something people do,then finding out people don't do such things. then her shame in realizing this was "bad" behavior and now she thinks she's in trouble and feeling ashamed and the principal will hate her. Lastly the gossip and misinformation must have been horrible for her self-esteem and sense of worth.

My dad was invited to particepate in a research program about diabetes and how it affects the kidney’s. He was asked to pee in a bottle for 2 weeks. After that they needed to do a biopsy of one of the kidney’s. They took it and found out he had cancer in that kidney. The other one was fine.

Starting in 2017 I spent a year with back pain that just progressively worse and my doctor only ordered x-rays and that was it. In December he finally ordered an MRI for a Wednesday, then I get a call on Thursday telling I needed a CT scan on Friday because the nurse said that there were "shadows" that they wanted a better look at but the tech for the CT slipped and told me there were masses on my MRI. The following Monday, I'm told I have a rare form of cancer and my entire spinal cord, left hip bone and abdominal region are covered and full of tumors. I thought maybe I had slipped a disc or two or pulled something really bad, not that it was cancer though. Please everyone pay attention to your body and don't take any excuses from your doctor until you have answers

I feel you. I'm a cancer patient and in these last 4 years I've learned that the best way for not having bad surprises is prevention. Abdomen ultrasounds are very helpful at least for your internal organs and are non-invasive. Other exams like mammograms that involve xrays should be less frequent and the virtual mammograms and colonscopy are x-rays free. Believe me, the more you check yourself the less fears you have. Always with a doctor's advice of course, and take part in screening programs whenever you can

My mum broke her hip, didn't fall or anything and not sure how she did it but she had osteoporosis so her bones had very little density. Had an op to replace the hip and it was standard to do a biopsy. Found bone cancer. Unfortunately it was small cell cancer and was already in her lungs and other places. Stage 4, she was dead less than six months later but at least we knew so we had the chance to be with her.

myself and a childhood friend (we were both around 9-10yo) were on this old wooden field gate looking over the fields at the storm clouds, was one of the that has no rain but humid....next thing we knew was a bang and flash between us (no more than a few feet apart from each other) of lightning, absolute blinding flash but I recall the bolt,we ran like the clappers to my house which wasn't far... absolutely terrified yet my mother had made apple and blackberry crumble with custard (I remember so clearly,wow)....not long after (I don't know if it's related) I developed a cataract in right eye,the side of the lightning, which then evolved into retinoblastoma (eye cancer) which is usually only found in babies and toddlers even then it's very rare, like I say I cannot say the lightning was the cause

My dad forcing me to eat my pet squirrel. I grew up lonely in a rural area. I made friends with a squirrel and the little guy got tame around me. Like I could sit in the bench swing and he would climb down and I would pass him a granola bar. He actually begged with his hands asking for the food. Well one day my dad was cooking fish and drinking beer with his friends. Well the see me in the bench drawing and the squirrel comes down. They shout what am I doing. I said just chilling with my little bud (I was 10m). They make a joke about my dad raising a Disney princess. He gets angry and goes inside. He comes back outside and next thing I know is the bench I was in is being knocked over the squirrel bails and then boom. Little bud is shot with bird shot. His friends were laughing til this. He then tells me to wait by the fryer will he proceeds to clean the squirrel and then deep fries it in front of me and makes me watch. I see the eyes of what was my friend exploding in the oil. He cooks it til it was done. He then Infront of his friends demands that I eat it. I say know but he grabbed me by the collar and pops me three times. He then tells me the squirrel got off easy. He could do a lot worse to me. I eat my friend that literally had just been feeding and laughing with thirty mins ago. His friends alot lost their composure. Many left and a few threw up at this sight. It was not a good day. So yeah again being made to eat a pet

They might be right about the Disney princess part. Disney princesses who were friends with animals were mostly deprived of love and care or had an evil parent in their lives. I can't imagine the trauma of a child who had to go through this. That's not a dad.

Here you go: Cousin’s brother found it in the woods. Sat it on the springs to clean it off and take a look. I was getting up and going to walk home when older brother of cousin swan dove onto the trampoline. Bowling ball bounced and hit me in the back of the head as I was standing up. Had enough force to flip me over. I could feel my arms touching the mat, but I visually saw them still in the air. Knocked me out for a bit. EMT blew my vein trying to get IV in. Stayed strapped to a back board for over 6 hrs as they performed X-rays and tests. Pretty nasty concussion.

There were car thieving drunk teens driving in our yard, going as close as possible to our patio, over and over again. Wrecking stuff and being a menace, and also being a threat to children. I called 112 (EU equivalent to 911). This went on for about 45 minutes. I called again and they hung up on me. The police arrived 1,5 hours later and of course the c*nts had split at that point. What a joke the emergency call was.

When I was 3-5 my mom married my little brothers dad. She was working basically all the time, and also trying to balance out school. After she had my little brother, his dad started getting... hostile towards me. For context, I was living with my mom, twin sister, little brother, step brother, step sister, and stepfather (now he's an ex stepfather). His daughter was awesome. His son was a completely different story. So, my ex stepfather abused me, just about every day for 2 years. I didn't know what to think about it because I was so young. He used to beat me with his belt, lock me in the attic, make me drink beer. He left me in the woods. But, he was smart enough to hit me where the marks wouldn't be seen by my mom. He did give me a black eye once by punching me in the face. He always screamed at me. He scared me. Every time his kids did something wrong he blamed me for it and he beat me for it. I hate him. And every time I go down to my bio dad's house I'm scared I'll see him again. I'm scared he will try to do it again. His son, who was around 10-12 at the time used to groom me. He and I shared a room, and he made me touch him at night. And every time I said "I don't want to" he'd break something, or say I hit him, or lock me in the closet. All of those getting me beaten by his dad. I'm 16 now and I'm still trying to get over it. I'm hurting. I wish I could go back and change it. I had my childhood stripped away from me because my mom had bad taste in men, and that's unforgivable. She doesn't believe the scars he left. She negates what i say and feel, just so that she can feel better about herself. I have panic attacks whenever I smell a certain type of alcohol now, and I have panic attacks whenever I smell weed. I'm claustrophobic too, and I hate being alone in the dark. Thank you for listening. I had to get it out there in a way that I'm comfortable with. Tldr; my ex step-dad abused me and his son groomed me when I was 3-5 years old, and my mom still doesn't care. Update: I've been going to therapy for a few weeks now. The only reason for that being I have pnes (ptsd related non epileptic seizures. Basically if I have a panic attack it could cause a seizure.) My therapy is tbcbt, or, trauma based cognitive behavioral therapy. The only reason my mother is allowing me to do this is because A. I almost died because of a seizure (caused by my current stepfather because he hit me and held me in a headlock after screaming at me) and B. So that I could stop pissing her off by not wanting to be around her. Both my mother and current step-dad are abusive. I can't do anything about it. As a 16 year old, I can't legally move out unless I get emancipated in the state of PA.

If the therapist is aware of the abuse, it should have been reported to authorities. There are confidentiality rules, but also some mandatory reporting laws when it comes to minors. I don't remember exactly what the rules are with this, but that step-dad and -brother should be locked up.

Even Pennsylvania has homeless shelters. I used one to get away from my abusive adoptive family. OOP, I'm sorry your family sucks. It's not fair but you can get through it. Before you turn 18get your birth certificate and social security card it put them in a hidden, safe place. Maybe have a friend hold onto them for you. Take photos and other keepsakes with you when you go as you most likely will not be able to go back and get them. If you're allowed a job do direct deposit at a bank that your parents do NOT use. If you don't have money when you turn 18 then either go to a homeless, or women's shelter if you're female. Call 211 or text your zip code to 898-211.its free and they provide help with housing and such. Good luck and have a virtual hug if you need one. I know it's scary to cut family off but it's worth it when they are abusive shits

Call CPS. You would maybe be of an age where the agency may help you live more independently. When you can, go NC with your mom. She sucks as do the step dads.

At the very least, 16 is usually the age that CPS allows the child to choose which family member to live with. Maybe, Dad or a grandparent might be a better option.

Teachers can be wonderful resources. My kindergarten teachers helped my mother and I get out of the house. Fourth grade helped her kidnap me, when it was evident he would always have unsupervised custody visits. When we finally got out of shelters, sixth grade principal helped us forge new ssn and full identities. If there's even one you can trust, talk to them. Most teach because they actually çare.

Remember that these days we have phones with cameras and the ability to record audio. Heck, Amazon sells cameras disguised as anything you want. I have one that looks like a working pen. Use something like that to record interactions, even if it's a state with consent, the recording allows the victim to generate a paper trail. "At such day, step-dad sais "so and so" and so on. The person with the better paper trail and evidence usually wins.

I (15 at the time) was traveling in a foreign country with my sister (26). We stayed at a local hotel. My period came and I got a little bit on the sheets the first night. Housekeeping came and cleaned as usual, nothing mentioned. A few days passed and when we were checking out, they asked to see our passports again. I guess we thought they just needed to double check their guest registry to update it. Once the passports were in his hand the front desk person (male) got really angry with us and began yelling at us for "making mess" in the hotel. At first we had no idea what he was talking about because we are very tidy travelers. He just kept yelling that we "made trouble" for him. He then proceeded to ask housekeeping to bring out the evidence and guess what, they proceeded TO BRING OUT THE UNWASHED SHEETS (wtf?). No idea where they had stored it. A nice young Australian couple witnessed the whole thing. The lady muttered "it's just a few spots, can't you just wash it?" He yelled at them to stay out of it and they fell silent. He even asked who made the mess (my sister said she did). 15 year old me felt like I had done something criminally wrong. My sister "paid him for the sheets" and got our passports back so we could leave.

“What’s Something That’s Happened To You That Sounds Fake But Unfortunately Isn’t?” (50 Answers) I was thrown off a motorcycle on the interstate when I was 22 months old. Yes, MONTHS. My parents thought I was dead because my head was ripped open (skull too) but took me to the hospital anyway. ETA: This happened in the Midwest US on an interstate.

I was about 2 or 3 when I first got on a motorcycle. My mom was so worried that she insisted on me wearing a plastic football helmet. Was only around the neighborhood we lived in. Different times. Doesn't justify it and I wouldn't let my son so it today but I still remember it.

I have ridden my motorcycles in all kind of weather and terrain. I have always been hard-core about that, but carrying a baby on a motorcycle? There aren't enough bungee cords for sale. Maybe in a sidecar? But even at that I would be paranoid AF. Is it even legal? TBH, I could see strapping a baby seat on a really big bike like a GoldWing or similar. Those are land ships on 2 wheels, and with a baby seat, not that much more dangerous than a car, but still way out of my comfort zone. EDIT: When I was in Taipei (Taiwan) for work, I saw entire families riding scooters. Mother with infant in arms, father driving with toddler on handlebars and kid in between mom and dad. It was actually quite a normal sight.

My sister almost got arrested at the White House because she sat down in the line outside to get in. She only did that because her feet hurt. Apparently it’s illegal to sit down at the White House because it’s considered a sit-in protest. She was 12.

My grandfather has been married to 3 women in my lifetime : 1. my dad's mom, to whom he was married when I was born and divorced when I was a year old so he could get with #2 2. my step-grandmother, who he married immediately after the divorce from #1 and who I've considered one of my grandmothers my whole life - he divorced her when she was diagnosed with schizophrenia around the time I was in my early 20s 3. his current wife, who he married when I was in my early 30s, and who I have never met and have zero plans to Here's where the unbelievable but true part comes in: Each of these women have a photograph of themselves holding me as an infant in the hospital when I was born. #1 makes sense. #2 is a bit tacky - he wasn't divorced yet so I'm not sure what the vibe was. #3 though - none of us know why or when she was there, we didn't even learn about this woman's existence until they married 30+ years after the picture in question was taken. I was a very distinct looking baby thanks to being severely post term (born more than 2 weeks past my due date), so the photos are easy to verify. I've been no-contact with him for almost 20 years for many reasons, including this one. He's a f*****g piece of work. Tldr: grandpa's a ho, brought his wife and all his sidepieces to the hospital when I was born and there's photo evidence.

What the hell does a “post-term baby” look like? WHY are they “distinct-looking”? What does an extra two weeks in the oven do to a baby’s looks? This is so weird that I’m not sure I believe that a baby who was cooked a tiny bit longer than others looks different from those others. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (Hokay; I’ve googled to hell and back and can’t find ANYTHING describing babies looking different if it’s been awhile since the due date. By the way, it’s only after 42 weeks, not “a couple weeks,” that it’s considered “post term.” Also, since due dates can’t be predicted but rather only estimated, it seems the due date isn’t hard and fast anyway.)

When I was young I swallowed a game token and it got lodged in my throat. Thankfully just before it got stuck I let out a muffled scream. My dad was downstairs watching TV. He heard the scream and came running upstairs. He found me choking and attempted the heimlich maneuver. Unfortunately it didn't work. So he picked me up and rushed me into the bathroom. Lifted me upside down and my stepmom began hitting me on the back while she was calling 911. I swear it felt like forever but the token came out and fell in the toilet. I'm sure they must have been shocked to see what I had been choking on this whole time lol. If it hadn't been for my dad's superhuman hearing and quick thinking I don't know if I would still be here now.

Don't they actually just kick you? I thought their hind legs are what they use most for defense. Seems like that would pack more of a punch than the forearms.

The legs are more for balance (along with the tail), they use them to stay stable when they use their arms. They have been called boxing kangaroos in media and drawn as such in cartoons.

This is kind of funny... when you are not the one being chased, obviously. My sister and I were chased down a hill by angry geese, which appeared out of nowhere. That was forty years ago, but even today, I won't go near them, just in case.

Apparently they can be mean. My adoptive family used to raise chickens and when their oldest went to the coop the chickens would attack en mass. Every single time! Which was daily as taking care of them was his chore. They hadn't raised them since before I got there thank goodness

One of my daughters had chickens as pets, and two of them she helped out of their eggs so they imprinted on her. They both turned out to be males, and once they were grown they protected her like dogs. They wouldn't let her boyfriend anywhere near her. They would chase him round the house attacking him and force him out of the building. Funny af to watch, he was terrified of them.

My uncle had chickens when mom and I lived with him. The rooster HATED me. My mom wanted to kill it. One day it went after me (I was 4) pecking at my calves. My mom came out screaming in her bathroom "kill it! Kill it!" My uncle chased her in his PJs yelling "don't kill it! Don't kill it!". My grandmother opened a window and started screaming incoherently. My grandfather got a big rake. Suddenly I got angry, stopped, turned around and kicked that rooster as hard as I could. It left me alone after that.

I was in a weird love triangle. This was back in like 2007. I was into a girl, but her near-inseparable best friend was into me. I wanted to go out with the girl, but she felt weird going out with me while her best friend kept talking about me, and said I should go out with the best friend first and let her get me out of her system...so I did that. It went ok but no chemistry. Went out with the first girl and there was major chemistry, but still withholding. It became more and more where it was always the two of them coming on outings with me (and sometimes ditching me) until the day they told me they both decided to date each other.

That logic though, lol. Dating her to get it out of her system? What will be harder for this girl: her ex who she's still in love with who dumps her to date her best friend, or a random boy who she's in love with but who has shown zero interest in her and is now dating her best friend. Such a hard one... /s

My son's (age 20, 1/4 Asian but totally white looking) car was surrounded by 10-12 police all with weapons drawn, then placed face down on the ground and handcuffed in the parking lot of our favorite sushi restaurant. Someone thought he looked like a man who had killed his wife a few hours prior in a very public place and then fled. The man was over 50 and my son looked nothing like him. An college buddy happened to be leaving an Arby's right next door and didn't know it was my son on the ground with many guns pointed at him, took a lot of photos because he thought the whole scene looked "cool." We now have those photos as souvenirs of the mistaken identity - "Oh well, we're sorry" was about all he got.

In many countries children that age are not legally liable for anything and certainly cannot be arrested. The age of criminal responsibility is between 12 and 14 in most countries on the planet with some notable exceptions, such as the UK where it's 10 and some US states where you could literally arrest a newborn baby.

“What’s Something That’s Happened To You That Sounds Fake But Unfortunately Isn’t?” (50 Answers) My cousin beat my aunt to death then put a towel over her face and sat down and ate dinner. My other cousin had a welfare check and they found him watching tv with her body in the kitchen. Edit: this happened about 10 years ago in Florida. My cousin is mentally unstable. Due to a car accident that happens to him when he was in his teens and has been on medication his whole life and I guess the older he got the worse he got. He was in his late 40’s when he killed my aunt. I guess they got into an argument and he snapped and beat her to death. Then cleaned up and put all the evidence in the attic but left her lying on the kitchen floor with the towel over her face. He’s been in a mental institution ever since.

An uncle of mine who was suffering from a plethora of mental health disorders used to constantly get into physical fights with my grandma, his mom. He used to shove her and throw random objects at her all the while she was trying to calm him down. My family who were living with my grandma moved out due to his unpredictability (my siblings and I were really young and my parents were afraid for our safety). He was constantly in and out of hospitals for psychiatric treatments. In the end he was found dead on the floor of his room due to an incorrect drug or drug overdose. And it was my poor grandma who discovered him. She was never the same after that. No matter how troublesome and dangerous he was, he was my grandma’s youngest child and she couldn’t get over his loss. I wouldn’t say it’s a good thing he passed away, but I truly believe if he was around much longer someone else would have ended up dead, probably my grandma (and my story would have been similar to OP’s story).

My epidural failed during the emergency c-section (I likely had listeria, my temp was 103+ and then the monitor for baby’s heartbeat went quiet type emergency) I had the epidural in place for awhile before, when we thought vaginal birth was still an option. No one in the OR believed me when I started telling them, then YELLING at them that I was numb anymore. It happened after they had gotten through all of the parts of me to get to baby, so I asked my husband if baby was out. He said yes and the tiny control I had left departed and I was screaming at everyone that I could f*****g feel them and their metal paddles in my body! RN by my head reassured me it was “just pressure” so my dumb self decided I was gonna gtfo. I planted my feet on the table and tried to lift myself to scoot away from the ppl who in my mind were now torturing me. Husband says it looked like a seance or a magic trick where the person covered by a sheet levitates off the table/bed. I made a huge mess, too, since I did it kinda fast. Sent a bowl full of bloody gauze flying up to hit the ground, tools clattered….I remember the poor anesthetist got yelled at while trying to give me propofol, then lights out finally.

Not only did they fail to do their job, but they refused to believe the patient was obviously in pain. Don't they have eyes? Those people are a danger for every patient under their care.

Women, especially WoC, are the least likely to be believed when it comes to pain issues. Wholeheartedly agree with this. If a patient is feeling pain, believe them first. Better to find out later they were lying than to literally continue to hurt them.

Giving birth is traumatic per se, but it looks as if some doctors are working hard to make it even worse. Why are so many women not believed or accused of exagerating? How does a man, even if he is a doctor and has all the diplomas in the world, come to the conclusion *he* knows what *the pregnant woman* is feeling? What a bunch of arrogant m***********s. I have to say I've seen the same arrogant attitude in female doctors, not so often though.

I feel you, I have had the same experience. I felt the first cut, and said so. The gynaecologist said it wasn"t possible. They continued, when they finally believed I could feel everything they couldn't stop anymore because my sons heart rate was to low and mine to hogh or something like that. Needless to say it was so traumatizing we didn't try for another child.

There was that story fairly recently where a nurse was stealing pain killers in a ob-gyn setting (can't remember exactly). Women were telling the doctors they could feel everything happening during procedures and weren't believed. This was going on for months! I think about 4-5 months before it was found out, but not because they believed the female patients were in pain. It's insanity that hundreds of women weren't believed and for such a long time!

I had a c-section because my daughter was breech. It was NOT an emergency at all. I got ny spinal block. I expressed concern that my left side felt really weird and right felt normal. I repeatedly told anesthesiologist i could still feel. She repeatedly told me that some sensation remains with a spinal block. Her and the nurse kept discussing how nervous I was, which, I wasn't. So, they started the surgery m once my doctor got half way over, I felt it and began to scream. He told anesthesiologist to fix it, she repeatedly said I was just being nervous. Her and my doctor got into a bit of a screaming match before she finally put me under general.

I had 3 C-sections and during the 2nd the spinal anesthesia wasn't enough. Spinal anesthesia is done only in the beginning and can't put more anesthetic during the surgery. So for more than 30 minutes I was feeling more and more of what was done on me. They gave me some painkillers, but it was still awful. When the 3rd baby was about to come I called to verify the anesthesiologist is not the same, she was fired several months after my case. I was hoping they will just put me to sleep under full anesthesia, but the anesthesiologist was continuously saying "Just five more minutes".

Damn if doctors would just freaking listen. But you know they aways think you be lying. Sometimes you have to go to drastic measures for them to believe you. I have similar stuff happen to me about 3 times. An all of it had to with child birth also. First time lady believed I wasn't in labor. It like I am up walking around like I am starting to have a lot of freaking pain. Like past an cramp feeling to the feeling of my back an belly being in constant pain. Was in the hospital to stop my birth because it was beginning early. Nurse tells me to set down instant pain. Throw up everywhere. Then finally a lady with sense comes in feels my belly and it was like muscle tight. And but it was to late to stop now. Had baby at 7mons pregnant. Didn't know why till like3 yr later when I had my 3rd child. Was sent home at 33weeks at 4cm. Oh but when your water breaks babies will just come. Okay ......sent home at 35 weeks sent home because doctor says my water ant leaking an I was faking. The next day I had her my water had broke early in morning almost had her at home. Was all the way dilated was crowning. In the ambulance they wanted to know why I couldn't stay still. And I was trying to stop shaking. Be glad I ant screaming at you. Get to hospital nurses haven't even looked at me going really slow and over her and I'm like this must be some kind of joke. I then say it is coming and there all like what and then get into action she crowning a nurse delivered my baby. The doctor wasn't even there until it was over. Then he proceeded to stick his whole hand up my vag after I gave birth, because he said to push again for after birth and then screamed for to stop. So....I don't know. And then last baby everything was fine had epidural. Had baby. Baby isn't breathing right. I tell the nurse 5 times oh wait until I'm done cleaning the room and doing this and that. I'm like so my baby don't matter. So finally after 6 time when my husband said something women finally did something. Then I keep telling them something is wrong I can't feel my legs it almost been an hr. Oh that normal. Oh that the epidural. And I'm like I no it not. Oldest daughter see me like this. P**s me off so much I was shacking couldn't stop. Apparently I was really pale and there was blue starting to show up under my nails. And there where signs of shock in my eyes as well no one checked. But someone had got the doctor. Had to rush iv fluid think hyperglyman or something. Something to do with losing to much blood. Got birth control was unexpected pregnant like 3 months later. and landed in the hospital like 3 months later. Laying in hospital bed thought they where gonna let me freaking bleed to death huge clot after clot. I was like uhhh. Yeah how many much can still come out of me. Finally gave me dnc. Then was gonna let me leave the hospital after I'd had a baby in August went into shock because of blood loss then had a miscarriage that I tryed to prevent like 5 months later. I td them I'm not leaving unt il you give me a blood transfusion I am not going home to take care of a small baby a 1 yr old and 5 yr old to pass out and something bad happening to my children while my husband is out trying to take care of us. B******t. Sometimes I know they work long hour and extra but some lives could be prevented from dieing if you would just watch and listen to your patience. Sad

I had MRSA on my skin... In my crotch. I fully understand the original Hellraiser movie and the concept of exquisite pain. The only way to stop the knife edge itchy feeling was near scalding hot water for several minutes, pain so bad my nervous system just shut down, followed by cold water. This would give me ~30 minutes relief from the itching

That’s not weird at all. When you’re in a place where you can actually SEE the stars (not in a city filled with light pollution), you can see shooting stars one right after another, and often several at once. That’s why this isn’t time for the “Twilight Zone” theme; there are sooo many shooting stars that they’ll appear regardless of the words you use!

Had that with a spacecraft. Friend said "I haven't seen a spacecraft in a long time" followed immediately by the appearance of a spacecraft. Shooting star times can be predicted, sort of, at the right time of year if you're lucky.

“What’s Something That’s Happened To You That Sounds Fake But Unfortunately Isn’t?” (50 Answers) That on Valentine’s Day 2008, my boyfriend cheated on me, but I couldn’t confirm it. Two days later, on the 16th, I came home and he was high AF. Long story short, I caught him in a lie and he admitted to cheating on me. We had been together for 4 years. The next day, on the 17th, his dad was over our house (we lived together) building a fire pit. We rented a house from his dad, and his dad was fixing it up trying to “flip it,” for a quick profit. I was inside packing my s**t because uh, well, he got caught/admitted to cheating on me and I was out. While packing, someone banged on the bedroom window. I ignored it (some friends had spent the night so I thought they were all in the backyard goofing around). A few minutes later another knock and then pounding. I walk through the house to the back door to say to them to stop banging on the door, and I see my boyfriend/soon-to-be ex-boyfriend on the phone, pacing, screaming “Dad!” I look at his Dad, and he laid out on the floor, snoring and unconscious and the people who had stayed over are just standing there in shock. I ask what happened, and he said his dad was sweating a lot, sat down, his arms locked up straight out in front of him, and then he fell back. I monitored him closely, waiting for the ambulance. Then he stopped breathing. I ended up doing CPR on him for over 10 minutes which was literally exhausting. It was working for a while, but then, before the ambulance got there, he exhaled into my mouth and I just remember tasing cigarettes and then he went really limp, his eyes were still open but there was no life behind them. I kept doing CPR because everyone else was there watching and I didn’t want to be the one to announce what I knew had just happened. The ambulance FINALLY arrived, they did the shock paddles on him several times. Nothing. He was pronounced DOA at the hospital, and I did not leave my ex that day. Stayed three more years (wish I hadn’t, but how do you dump someone the day their dad has a heart attack and dies right in front of them).

I have my CPR-certificate and the first thing my instructor said was that CPR just keeps circulation going, it doesn't restart a heart and so anyone needing CPR should be considered already dead. CPR is useful though to keep this circulation going until the ambulance arrives.

You're right. I was working a shift on the ambulance and called to pick up a heart attack victim. I did CPR all the way to town, about 20 mins. Her cheeks were quite pink. Got to the hospital and was declared DOA. I was pushing the blood around her body.

They only use defibrillators when there's still a heartbeat, albeit a poor, erratic beat. The don't restart hearts that have stopped beating, they stop hearts, briefly, with the hope that they'll pick up a more functional rhythm.

I literally just called the ambulance for someone with a heart attack last week and they used a defibrillator. I know they are used to re-set heart rhythms, so maybe they were desperate or maybe it sometimes works. But either way, the experience was very close to what this person is describing.

I call BS. They do NOT use shock paddles like the movies. I had the unfortunate situation of having to do CPR on my elderly neighbor who's oxygen tank ran out. I did CPR till paramedics arrived, which seemed like forever. His eyes were open, he shat himself and I broke ribs. The paramedics immediately bagged him and took over CPR. He passed in the hospital. The paramedics said I gave him a fighting chance but once they get to CPR stage, it is actually common to not recover.

I was still using manual paddles to defibrillate patients into the late 2000's, and these were slowly phased out for the safer adhesive pads, which are significantly safer to use, so it is wholly believable that the OP did witness EMS staff using manual paddles to defibrillate. Sadly, only 8% of people survive out of hospital cardiac arrest, and figure is normal 'adjusted' to remove patient's where life support isn't started by EMS, so the figure is really a lot less than 8%.

AED will not restart a heart once it has completely stopped because that's not what it's designed to do. If this is done after the heart stops, it's just for show.

Not quite right - you only defibrillate a patient if their heart has no output (no pulse), and if the heart has some electrical activity - either ventricular fibrillation or pulseless ventricular tachycardia... what a defibrillator will not help with is if there is an absence of electrical activity in the heart (asystole) shown as a flat line on the monitor.

I've hired quite a few people and our process was to go through applications with no names, pictures, gender, race, ages, etc, just education, experience, skills, and abilities and selected the best candidate. Then no interview, just a job offer. A couple of times a person wouldn't work out but not often and never due to gender, race, or age. No interviews saved a lot of time also.

Mom peeled down the block in the minivan and pulled over to the side of the road where my friends and I were outside and announced it to me. Dad came home five minutes later to just me and no mom. Or teenagers make them feel like they don't matter. And we all make mistakes but think outside the box with your kids how do they feel.

Some of our neighbors that me and my brother had literally grown up with went through something similar. The oldest kid was graduating high school and had a party in the backyard. It’s tradition for the dad to have a speech and instead of praising his son for graduating he proudly announced that he had been having an affair for years and that his gf was pregnant with his child. He then just up and left. I cannot understand a parent taking such an important milestone as a graduation or birthday of their kid to announce they’re breaking up the family. Like wait a couple days or something??? Mom in this story shouldn’t have told the kid immediately. Probably ruined the entire birthday for them.

I shat my pants in a carnival ride (the bullet) whilst wearing cargo shorts and diarrhea was slung out of the leg of my shorts and rained down on the unsuspecting patrons below. Shut down the entire area. Nobody got funnel cakes. My dad made me ride in the back of the truck home without bottoms on and I don’t like wearing undies. Edit: To add more context, I was 14 at the time and was raised in rural Alabama. The carnival coming to town was a whole city wide ordeal in my 1A high school. Less than 50 in my graduating class for reference. I was the “s**t slinger” for years, and some people in my friend group still bring it up. I’m 31 now. Similar s****y situation while hunting and wearing coveralls while leaning back against a tree in the “invisible chair” position doing my business. It partially landed in my coverall bibb on the back, and smeared up my back as I put them on. Had to ride in the back in 20 degree weather. Not fun either.

Driving one morning I suddenly discovered I was not going to make it and needed a toilet now. I remembered there was a construction site down the road and they had a port o potty. I get there and lucky for me the place is empty, so I got out and did the tight butt walk from my truck to the potty. I almost did not get my pants off before my back end exploded, and at that time I saw there was no toilet paper. No big deal, this place is empty, I will just take off my jeans and bare a*s walk back to my truck and grab a roll of paper towels from the back. As soon as I opened the door to the potty I see the construction site is now full of people getting ready for their day to start or eating breakfast. I think well c**p just own it at this point so I just slowly walked to my truck while seeing guys out of the corner of my eyes just slapping each other and pointing at me and not saying a word. I got my towels and walked back. then as the door shut, the yard exploded in laughter.

It was just a couple months ago that I read a collection of these types of stories; they’d been voted “best,” and were remarkable! They were all very funny (aside from the horror, I mean), too. I can’t for the life of me remember where it was; I keep thinking it was Vice, but they don’t seem the type to be into those sorts of stories. Perhaps it was a men’s site? I’m kinda thinking that’s what it was. (And iDO remember all the stories were from males.) Any chance you know what I’m talking about? I think this story belongs there with the other masterpieces! (And good for you going for the paper towels despite the audience! 🫸🏻🫷🏻)

“What’s Something That’s Happened To You That Sounds Fake But Unfortunately Isn’t?” (50 Answers) When I was 10 years old, several people in my neighborhood were attacked by a deranged squirrel that was missing part of its tail. One day, my dad was at work and my mom was running errands, so myself and my two other brothers (aged 14 and 7) were left home alone. I was in the kitchen and my 7 year old brother was playing on the back porch. Suddenly, a squirrel that was missing the tip of its tail started attacking the kitchen window, about 10 feet from where my brother was playing. I ran outside to caution my younger brother but it was too late. The squirrel had already bitten a chunk out of his finger, which was squirting blood, and was running up and down his arm while my brother screamed his head off. I grabbed this insane, bloodthirsty creature with my BARE HANDS and chucked it into a tree. By now my older brother had come to see what was going on. I told him what had happened, and because this took place in small town Mississippi, he of course had full access to the family gun cabinet. He got a gun, went outside, and shot some random squirrel that was NOT missing the tip of its tail. I told everyone that it was not the same squirrel, but no one listened to me. The story of my brother’s heroic actions went around town and he was even written about in the town newspaper for saving the day. Absolutely no mention of me or my heroism at all.

And not like little drops, I mean I help my mouth open over the sink and it was just a constant stream. So now I’m terrified of eating or drinking red foods that would show up when I spit or such. I’m not normally queasy about blood, but I think the fact it was my own and it was a lot was concerning

My to tonsils ruptured due to a severe strep infection. I was hacking up blood. That was scarier than any other injury or surgery I had including facial surgery right below my eye. Still have those stupid tonsils.

A 'not insignificant' percentage of people have a significant bleed post tonsillectomy. It can be very severe, but, certainly in the UK, you get a printed 'handout' with what to look for, and when to call out the ambulance.

Many years ago, I was walking my pug early in the morning. Sun wasn’t quite up yet. I was walking him along a main road. Across the busy road was a junkyard with rotties in it guarding it. All of the sudden I hear heavy breathing and look and a rottie got loose somehow and was full on galloping toward us across the busy road. Just as I was going into “I’m protecting my pug, I’m taking this hit mode”…. a car comes along and full force hits the dog. Maybe 40 mph because the driver most likely didn’t see him since it was mostly dark out still. The dog flew 3/4 of the way down the block. Cops came, driver stopped. Dog wasn’t dead but I’m assuming it died eventually. It’s such a wild story to me when I’m telling people, but I’m so thankful that car accidentally stopped us from being attacked.

I was almost in a shooting at a target. Was with my mom and dad about to go shopping for Christmas gifts (I think for my sister she was at gymnastics when this happened). My parents park the car and as we get out this guy lighting a cigarette stops us and says “hey there’s two people over there with guns drawn I would get back in your car and shop somewhere else”. We left, got dinner and saw lots of emergency vehicles that night. The next morning there was an article about the parking lot shooting at the target we were at I can’t remember but a few people died. When this happened I was sad I couldn’t go to target but now that I really understand the situation I feel so bad for the people and families who are affected by it. I can try and find the article of the event if anyone is interested in reading about it. I’m hoping the guy who warned us that there was guns is doing ok and living a great life and I hope the families affected are doing well and I’m hoping they know how much this even that injured or took away a loved one of theirs is still something pulls at the heart of others.

When you post something about a firearms shooting at a store called "Target" you need to be extra careful with punctuation and syntax or it can get very confusing real quick. "I was almost in a shooting at a target" is probably clear to people in the USA, but my Italian brother would be very curious why "shooting at a target" would be an unusual or dangerous thing.

Be aware that outside of North America there's no real concept of "out of bounds" skiing. Off-piste, or 'backcountry' skiing is allowed anywhere unless it's specifically prohibited and marked, e.g. as a protected wildlife zone.

One morning, I woke up, fed my cat and got ready for work. All of my housemates were either out or still asleep. So I leave the house and start walking and here she comes, my first human interaction of the day. Just as I'm about to ready a smile and say "hello," she freezes, looks up, and then fixes me with a look of absolute horror. "Ugh," she screamed, "That BIRD just POOPED on me!" Her tone was almost accusatory, but I was just the witness. I knew then that it was going to be a beautiful day.

I was once on a date and he got up to go to the toilet, after 10 minutes I started to worry if he had left so I sent him a text and he replied asking me to come to the toilet. I found it strange but decided to go to the toilet, when I went in I was hit with a smell that I had never experienced. He then told me that he had food poisoning and he had sh*t his pants and been sick all over himself (This was only our second date). I then had to ring his mother and she had to come and drop off some new pants for him and had to take him home. We had already ordered food so I had to pay because he had to leave, he never rang me back after that.

While he was driving down from LA to Orange County to see me, (about an hour drive,) my roommate offered me my first ever glass of champagne. As it turns out, I have some sort of allergy. By the time my date arrived, I was losing it at both ends and my face was red like a lobster. This man, whom I'd only just met, drove me to the hospital and slept in his car in the parking lot until I was released the next morning. There were several, much more successful dates with him after that. To this day, I think that's the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me.

I won a bicycle out of honeycomb cereal when I was a kid. My dad's response when I showed him the little piece of paper with the word 'Karate' on it: "You little s**t.". Handlebars broke off while I was in the air on a jump, wiped out when I landed, but luckily no scars. I woke up once when I was a kid, went into the bathroom, and had an alligator in there. No, it wasn't Florida. My dad had got a couple caiman's the day before and one got out. He was (for a while) a herpetologist and we traveled around Texas fairs with a 40' logging trailer filled with snakes and lizards. He was outside dressed like Steve Irwin (this was years before the legendary Mr. Irwin) getting people to go inside, while I gave tours. Fun stuff. I also had to help pull a 23' reticulated python off him at one point, and help him recapture an 18' king cobra we had. I guess most of the cool stories in my life revolve around my dad, who was just an epic man, who did everything every little kid wants to be when they grow up, and died a broken man due to alcohol and lost love :(

Sounds like that. Babies straight out of the womb are extremely slippery and most often widely trashing about and screaming their little lungs off. Also in the final stage of the delivery the baby is essentially ejected out of the mom as she continues to push so the doctor/nurses have to have a good grip on the baby. The doctor who delivers usually immediately hands over the baby to a nurse as the doctor has to check up on the rest of the delivery (e.g.: deliver the placenta, repair an episiotomy, etc) so it’s possible for the baby to slip off during this stage too if the doctor-nurses team isn’t well coordinated. Some of the doctors don’t even look at the baby during this time as they’re hyper focused on the mom’s condition.

Because it makes me imagine the baby shooting out of mom like a torpedo and whizzing right past the doctors and nurses as they all try to grab it. LOL!

My father passed away when he and my mother were visiting another country. There was a national holiday going on (in that country), so we could not transport his body back to the US for another week. For that same holiday reason, my mother could not book a trip back home in-country - I had to make the plans from the US. This was before the internet, so I had to go to the airport and make the arrangements in person, since it involved multiple airlines and special circumstances, and the US embassy helped. I had his death certificate faxed to me, and it was all in a language I couldn't understand.

Grief, plus a bureaucratic nightmare - what an ordeal. Sympathy.

Nearly almost certainly died in a parasailing accident when I was young. Was up there with my mum. There was others out doing the same thing and our ropes nearly got tangled. I vividly remember my mum panicking before being a total badass and steering us out of a disaster.

When I was 9 I tripped over a log playing tag in the dark and fell into the middle of a small bonfire we had goin in the yard after grandmas funeral. I had both my knees and hands directly in the coals and it took me a few seconds to realize where I had fallen. Felt a sharp pain in one of my hands and got up and walked out. Only my left hand got burnt black the rest of me was totally fine. Healed up good, now I just have a tiny scar with a little black dot embedded in it. Luckily my nerves were seared so it wasn't even very painful and the subsequent blisters that covered my hand after all the black was scraped off just kept reforming until the skin healed We were poor so my parents didn't take me to the doctor or even bandage it or nothing so it was a small miracle it healed so well

Sorry to say this, but your parents, apart from being poor, were totally, I don't know what to say, heartless? I understand doctors are expensive, but... aren't there at least pharmacies where you can get some ointment for pain and to prevent infection? Come on, it sounds as if they couldn't care less. It *is* a miracle you didn't get a dreadful infection in those untreated blisters. I don't want to hurt anybody's feelings, but in my opinion, this is akin to child abuse.

When there is no money there is no money for meds. It may suck but it's probably not abuse.

I once flew in a DeHaviland Twin Otter and had a seat across from the door. I amused myself watching the rain coming into the cabin from the space where the door didn't meet the floor of the cabin.

Dash 8 in Canada? In most of the world De Havilland lost its separate identity in about 1963. So could be an antique.
