In principal, I agree, but we have to take into account the highly competitive job market for CEOs. Any company that wants a quality, experienced CEO has to pay a wage, (high as it may be), that is competitive with every other comparable CEO position out there. The only way to fix this would be for all companies, everywhere, to change their pay structure for CEOs and collectively lower the bar for compensation expectations.

Counterpoint... It's possible that there's some merit in career politicians. How have we gotten to the point that any unqualified idiot that can get elected can run a country? There's something to be said for having the qualifications for the complex and nuanced job of administering a country/province/county/city, etc. That being said, I'll agree that lifetime appointments, (US Supreme Court Judge, or Canadian Senator come to mind), are probably not the best idea...
