It's a common trope among many guys to claim that they simply don't understand women - whether it is willful ignorance or not is another question, but there seems to be a fashionable yet lazy acceptance that women are a complete mystery so there is no point in trying.

Well, there's no excuse now fellas. Turns out, all we had to do was ask! Women on Twitter have decided to take matters into their own hands with the viral hashtag #WhatMenDontKnowAboutWomen.

While they clearly don't speak for all women, the discussion is incredibly insightful and educational, as posters take turns sharing their experiences and frustrations about the kinds of things that just seem to pass many men by. Have you got your notepad at the ready guys? There are some really important points here (and some funny ones too!).

Scroll down below to check them out for yourself, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

No, f****d up is lying about your marital status, other relationships, and STDs. F****d up is that a woman is more likely to be assulted, raped, or murdered by her date, ex or significant other than by a stranger. You expect tradespeople to be bonded, you check criminal records of potential employees. If this is not a man you have known for a long time, or a man with character references from people you know and trust, then it makes sense to check him out.

I think the gist of this comment is that most women fear getting killed and raped. Noone talks about this, but the french writer Virginie Despentes summed it up real nicely: most women calculate the risk of being raped everyday. EVERYDAY they leave the house, when they check their outfits, when they think about the time they ll come home, when they ll think about the route they ll take to work, from work, etc. It means sth that most men are not aware of; women are scared to get killed by men. Every date, every conversation in every interacting moment a woman has with a guy she needs to be on guard constantly, because he *could* rape an kill her. It happens 24/7 in life. Like its "normal, biologically explainable" etc. So there you have it, thats why she does background checks. Of course its offensive to the guy if he means her well. But what if he does not? Who is gonna care for the girl who lies dead in the dumpster? Ppl will shake heads and keep reading about tesla and global warming

Aaa no. Same height around the same weight a woman is only about 10-15% weaker than a man. You can put up PLENTY of fight and be a threat, you are not that frail if you are a woman. Also adrenaline would kick in during life or death so aaa.. again nope, I call b******t. Mothers are known to have bashed the skull of frickin puma's (the big cat) protecting a child or themselves. So the women constantly checking routes and being afraid has a psychological affection called paranoia (a real disease)

That’s just creepy, I would actually be hesitant to have anything to do with you for being so paranoid, creepy, and have no trust. Trust is extremely important in relationships and friendships.

I think in regards to someone you know, yeah it's creepy. However, let's say a first date or someone you just met with the intention of dating. Neither of you have mutual friends that you can get honest opinions from. I have no problem him checking if I have some dirt on me (prison, sex offender, etc). You don't know me and I don't know you. You could be married for all I know. Trust comes later on, not on first impressions. For safety reasons, I think mild background checks are okay.

except you don't always know the answers, and background checks won't always reveal anything. i know for a fact that if you ran a background check on me, absolutely nothing would come up. I am completely off the grid

Do you know what “off the grid” means, person who is posting on the internet?

I would absolutely do a background check on someone I am letting into my personal life. And I wouldn't have a problem if they did one on me. However, to use that information to play games with people...that is just juvenile and not worth any of my time. If there is questionable info, I'll ask for an explanation. If I am not satisfied, I'll move along.

I invite all of you, men and women alike, to do a background check on me. If you can find out one thing about me, I'll pay you. Oh, and I've mentioned my age on this site a few times, so that doesn't count. Anything else is fair game. Go on. I'll wait.

Throw me rocks, but I also do a quick background check before dating someone. Once I found the guy I was talking to, was on the sex offender registry. I have a daughter I have to protect her too. I don't go stalker crazy about it, but I still want to play it safe. Maybe she is going overboard with it, but I don't think there is anything wrong about it when done reasonably.

Yeah it IS messed up. BUT if I'd have done that I'd still have my teeth and be able, mentally, to go outside in the dark and walk my dog. Sometimes men present themselves as EXACTLY what you've been searching for - until they aren't. ASK those questions - see if they lie to you.

People will lie, use, abuse, r*pe, k*ll, cheat or are already married (pretending to be single), or have a crime register. I don't wonder why some resort to checking the background.

That's r******d. You can just chat with the guy for a longer while and see if he's really into you, or just wants sex. The hints will be there, if you know where to look. And stuff you find out from a "background" check might be distorted and you end up messing up the whole thing.

Except the ones you want to avoid KNOW how to cover tracks. You are not NSA, trust me. Also it would be shocking but.. 99% of the time what you see is what you get. Try run one of your check on me. You would find my facebook page, there you have my home address, workplace and studies listed. So is on linkedin. I have nothing more to offer than you can find there. Aaaa.. if that is what you call a background check, I can tell you it takes about 2 weeks of work to build an identity like that

"A lot of us"? No. The controlling ones with self-worth issues and a tendency for jealousy do that. And it's NOT healthy and NOT normal.

So you're openly admitting you'll get into a relationship with someone you don't trust? I'm not sure of the message here.
