Not everything goes downhill as we age. Well, surely our close friends circle becomes smaller, hangovers get worse and more responsibilities fall on our shoulders. But a new body of research has shown that some of our brain abilities improve as we age.
For example, a 2011 study looking at data from more than 60,000 people found that our ability to recognize faces continued to improve as we age—until just after we hit age 30. "At almost any given age, most of us are getting better at some things and worse at others," lead study author and MIT department of brain and cognitive sciences researcher Joshua Hartshorne commented to Business Insider.

Another more recent study found that some of our abilities, like reading others' emotions and recalling events that have just happened, to name a few, keep improving until we turn 30. Incredibly, skills like basic math and a larger vocabulary rise throughout our lives and reach their peak around when we turn 50.

Does that mean that we get smarter with age? Well, it depends what we define as ‘smart,’ but some of our cognitive abilities do indeed improve as we age. However, some will deteriorate, like our ability to quickly process and recall information (also known as fluid intelligence), which peaks at about the age of 18. After its peak, those abilities continually fall over the rest of our lives.
But that doesn’t mean it’s bad news for us. There is another study suggesting that having a greater purpose in life can help protect against cognitive decline among older adults. In fact, greater purpose in life has been linked to reduced all-cause mortality and cardiovascular problems, increased longevity, maintenance of general physical functioning, reduced risk of stroke and reduced incidence of sleep disturbances.

The Drawer At The Bottom Of Your Over Is Not For Storing Pans, It's A Broiler
100% NOT a broiler on any oven I've ever had. It doesn't even warm up enough to be a warmer.
Mine is a warmer, but there's not an element in there. It's not going to broil anything.
Load More Replies...not on all ovens... sometimes it's a warmer, sometimes it's just a drawer.
Even then, I've had gas stoves with fire broiler in the top part of the oven. I had never seen a stover ever with the broiler in the drawer until I moved into a really old apt. I found out the hard way when I needed a pan under my pizza stone that was getting blasted by 500 degrees of broiler, it blew apart into 3 pieces 😭
Load More Replies...No it isn't! It's a drawer! It's a wooden ****ing drawer. It is literally for putting my pans in. The last time I used an oven like that has to be nearly 30 years ago! And no it was just a warming draw - a luke-warming draw you might say - you couldn't cook anything in it.
So you know what my oven does more than I do? Knowing everything must be a hell of a responsibility.
Load More Replies...His facial expression looks like he learned this the hard way by burning something by accident!
That isn't even a drawer, it's obviously a broiler and most stoves I've seen have actual drawers.
depends on the model. the drawer in my oven is a food warmer, the broiler is inside the oven.
Only in some gas ovens. In electric and gas ovens with an electric broiler, this is a plane to put food to keep it warm
Hmm yes… I love to bake cookies in my OVER. EDIT: look in the caption
Some are for starage... For instance my broiler is the top rack of the oven... If it don't have a rack it for pans broski...
Not all stoves but it's good to be aware this is a possibility, only ever had one stove I used that was like this and boy did that surprise me. All my other stoves have been broiler in the main oven, drawer in the bottom. But! You can use the drawer for keeping food warm if your making big holiday meals.
It depends on the stove/oven unit. My old gas stove, yes that drawer was a broiler. My new electric stove, that drawer is storage. (The broiler is inside the actual oven.)
Mine isn’t. It’s a warming drawer. I made sure my new oven has the broiler IN, the oven!
Not in all stoves. My last few stoves had a drawer. My current stove has a drawer and it's a gas stove.
Depends on oven. Gas ovens, he's correct. Electric ovens, it's a drawer
So, it depends on the oven. For some it's a broiler and others it's just a drawer. Mine has a drawer and it doesn't get warm.
Actually, that's only for gas stoves. Electric stoves have a warmer drawer. That's where everybody puts their baking stuff.
Gas oven, lower drawer is a broiler. Electric oven, the drawer is usually just for storage.
Depends on the type of stove. If not a broiler, the bottom drawer is a warming drawer. Which more often than not is used by 90% of of the population to store pots and pans.
Nope not true for mine it's a drawer and I use it for lids for my pots and pans. And stack my pots and pans inside each other in the cupboard lol
I had no idea. When I was growing up I never saw my mom use this for anything else. When I went to look at mine in my newer home. Apparently the idea was so popular they quit attaching it to the stove. Now they just added a small storage drawer on the cabinet that holds a smaller oven.
Only if your oven is gas fired. However, the drawer is a warming drawer.
Some gas ovens have the broiler on the bottom. Electric ovens have the broiler at the top of the oven. Those are the ones with a storage drawer underneath the oven.
Not on every cooker! The bottom section of my cooker IS for storage. Hint number 1 it says so in the manual. Hint number 2 it's got a huge open space at the top.
Apparently you've only seen one type of stove. There are stoves with drawers on the bottom.
The one we had in our home while I was growing up was a gas stove in that Ugly olive green, it was only a broiler, no way it could be used as a drawer. When we replaced that one, the new one had the warming drawer. The one in my current home is only a drawer. So it has to depend on the stove.
Are the ones you've had with a drawer gas too..?
Load More Replies...This isn't always true be sure to check I saw this hack did it on my oven didn't end well
Not in all stoves. Mine is supposed to be a warming drawer but I still use it for pans.
That is only true of gas stoves with gas ovens. The broiler is intregal to the oven of an electric store, ergo the drawer is for storage.
That is ONLY on gas ovens.....electric ones have the drawers which are supposedly for keeping food warm, if you are using the oven mind you, but I do use it as strorage as most people do.
Uh, no. Many of them are just drawers. My broiler element is on the top of the oven. You can tell it's the broiler if the front flips down, like in the photo.
It's only a broiler for gas stoves. Electric stoves have that drawer, but it's actually for keeping cooked food warm.
Actually, the drawer at the bottom of my range is a second oven, but not a broiler.
The ones in Australia are under between the top and the oven door, why would any one want to grill something down at the floor level?
Our bottom drawer is a warming oven, to keep dishes warm until serving. But most of the time it's the storage drawer for the cast iron fry pans.
Not in electric ones......only the gas ones. In the electric stoves the drawer, instead of a storage spaces most people use as, are meant to use to keep cooked food warm until served.
It's not actually a broiler, it's a drawer for keeping the food warm while the other part of the meal is baking.
So…. He found an instruction manual for something at some point and looked for others?
It's not a broiler, as there is no element above it. It is a warming tray.
It is too for storing pans when you don't use your broiler. Besides, YOU have a mini toaster oven/broiler on top of your microwave sparky, so whatcha trying to prove?
IF IT HAS a broiler at the bottom. Lots of stoves don't, many stoves have the broiler in the roof of the oven part. .
it is not a broiler in every oven, that's an older oven. It is a warming drawer on most ovens, not a broiler.
100% depends on the cooker, mine has a drawer there, that is what it is called in the info booklet. "Tray storage drawer"
actually its a boiler. put water in the pan and after a hundred hours it boils
Actually, it's meant as a warmer. Take the food out of the oven put down there to keep warm. Or, you know, just eat it.
It's for storage. Absolutely no where in any oven users manual does it say that drawer, which is not insulated nor does heat get into it, is for cooking or for keeping warm.
I own a gas oven with the broiler in the bottom, I don't have the manual tho, maybe that's the problem

I did find the one about the dishwasher interesting. I had no clue it had a filter. I grew up overseas in a third world culture that didn’t have almost any of the technology I now have in the United States, including a dishwasher and a dryer. I had left the US when I was 8, so, when I first came back to the United States for college a few years ago, even though I was coming from a family that are citizens from America, I had no idea how to use a dryer or a dishwasher - even though I was 19. So, I find some of this stuff really interesting. Thanks!
People are railing on this dude for only learning these things now and not giving actual life advice, but it’s supposed to be funny, not useful. You can’t see it in the screenshots, but in the video it’s him making fun of himself for not knowing these things. Of course not everyone is this ignorant, that’s the point. You get some videos of him being ignorant, and some of actually useful tricks.
I think the comments are rather hard. These things you have to learn, and not everybody does at home

Many young people don't learn to fend for themselves because they aren't interested in learning... and many parents allow their children to be like this by enabling their "learned helplessness". Most soon learn on their own as the need arises, though.
Most of this content probably helped a lot of people. I didn't really gain from it(besides the instant pot), but people I know can.

It's been way out of balance and, once taken apart, we found a lot of wet lint deep in it. I think it will be fine now that it's cleaned, but we had no idea that there is a filter to be cleaned.
