Since I haven't had the luck to be born and to grow up in The United States of America, or any other Western country, but rather an occupation-torn post-Soviet state that has just regained its freedom, I've never actually seen or touched half of the things on this list. And, yet, looking at all these Poo-chi dogs, Polly Pockets, and things like phone charms, I feel a massive wave of 2000s nostalgia!

That's probably because we, as kids, were glued to our screens whenever they showed something like Dawson's Creek or even Hannah Montana, absorbing not only how the characters looked and talked but also the things they had. It was almost like having them yourself! Though speaking of the nostalgic series we used to get during the early 2000s, we'd more often get something as old as The Little House On The Prairie or Doctor Quinn rather than the newest episode of, say, Phineas & Ferb

Nevertheless, I can definitely feel the importance and the impact of the decade on our lives and the early 2000s nostalgia we all collectively feel. Things were changing ever so quickly. Straight from oblivion, we went to the Western civilization and its pop culture with half-naked ladies, boy bands, electronic toys, TV series, and even portable phones (those definitely came out of some witch's brew)! Also, the sense of liberation - both literal freedom regained by my homeland and the one given to us by the ever-expanding World Wide Web - was just overwhelming. So many new cultural experiences and opportunities were never present. Starting, of course, with 2000s nostalgia toys and ending with poking someone on Facebook, this decade was moving into the future at a breakneck pace.

But, without any more of my essayistic babble, let's dive a few decades back and reminisce on the things that we all loved dearly when growing up. From Tamagotchis to pencils with cartridges, and from the old Cartoon Network to flare jeans, you'll find many things that'll remind you of your careless youth. So, share these things from your childhood early 2000s nostalgia list with someone susceptible to the same kind of feelings that you are, and tell us which of these items, pop stars, or games you miss the most!

Before there were the 2000s, the '90s Paved the Way for Iconic Toys

To find out more about where this 2000s nostalgia is all coming from and what games from our early days we have long forgotten, we reached out to Qudsia Shakeel, the content manager at Moonpig, who recently found out the most iconic gifts of the last 50 years.

It turns out that just before the early 2000s, it was the golden age for toys we consider iconic today. “The '90s were an especially iconic time for toys. Technological advancements presented new opportunities for toys to be much more interactive, making for a truly exciting time for the toy industry,” Qudsia told us. Moreover, she added that “there is a great sense of nostalgia brought back by these toys, the Gameboy and Furbies are seen to be true icons of the decade.”

"The 2000s saw no slowing down in the momentum of great toy production. Those who grew up in the naughties would remember some of the true gems of the era, including the Teksta Robotic Puppy and Beyblades. Not to mention the infamous Tamagochi, which saw children across the world cherishing their very own virtual pet," Qudsia commented. According to her, a combination of new technology and quirky crazes made the early 2000s a standout time for toys.

Why are the 2000s so Nostalgic?

Early 2000s was the time of our childhoods, and if you were to ask anybody how they feel about their childhoods, the answer would always be the same - nostalgic! Yes, it's as simple as that.  Now, Moonpig, a brand that specializes in gifts, has seen a huge surge in interest in 2000s nostalgia aesthetic and nostalgic gifts lately. “We are unsurprised to see a number of Gameboy cards and retro gifts being purchased today,” Qudsia said. And that’s mostly because we, Millennials, are exactly the age of starting to feel nostalgic about the good ole days and want something to remember the times by.

What were the most Wanted Toys in the 2000s?

So, which 2000s nostalgia toys are we talking about, exactly? Well, you probably remember Furby, a chatty furry ball that became a must-have for children all over the world. In 1998, Furby released its first model consisting of 48 colors and 22 special editions. The same year, a whopping 1.8 million Furbies were sold, and the toy was translated into 24 different languages.

Furby paved the way for other robotic toys of the 2000s that became incredibly popular. Like, the famous Teksta the Robotic Puppy. This little doggo started a huge craze in the early 2000s when kids realized they could literally fulfill their dream of having a pet, minus all the hassle. Parents were also excited with the idea, so over 7 million robotic puppies were sold in the first year. As a result, the Robotic Puppy became one of the most popular birthday gifts of the new century.

Tamagotchi, a virtual pet, is basically a symbol of the 2000s nostalgia. After its launch in 2005, children would carry it everywhere they went, attaching it to their belts and backpacks, in order to be always ready to take care of their pet whenever it needed them. Feeding, training, and playing were part of the journey of raising a Tamagotchi, but in turn, it would grow and… not much else! Yet, many millennials still remember it with great nostalgia.

If you want to delve on the past for a little while longer, check out further submissions on our list. Besides serving well for a walk down memory lane, all of these items are a great inspiration for a nostalgia 2000s-themed party if you were planning on staging one!

The Goths have married into my vampire family XD. Alexander married my second matriarch (Elondra DeathShade) and Cassandra married Elondra's adopted brother Hank. I have such a nice family. I'm working on my third generation of vampires right now, as Elondra's oldest sister Arana has teenage girls. (I could rave for hours about the DeathShades, sorry)

Thank you! So, I started out with a simple vampire, just the one member of the household in Forgotten Hollow. Of course, it was a really simple, really nice house. There was this one human who kept coming over, a pack-specific NPC by the name of Johnny Zest. Clearly, my vampire (Ravyn DeathShade) took advantage of his apparent interest in her to drink from him a few times, since she wasn't leveled up enough to get Plasma Packs. Of course, I was able to get her leveled up with fighting the Vatore siblings and learning from them. Over time, she invited Johnny into her household, they developed a relationship, and got married. Now they have 6 kids: Johnathan, Arana, Mercedes, Raven, Kate, and Elondra. Mercedes and Kate are adopted, as are 3 other Sims that don't actually show up on the family tree (Lucy Holiday, Hank Lee, and Antoinette Burton). 10-23-21_1...00-png.jpg 10-23-21_11-08-16PM-6174cea9c9b00-png.jpg

Now, Lucy and the others have an interesting story. Their father, a vampire by the name of Jake Gambino, was someone I was experimenting on. You see, I hadn't had a Sim die before, so I was seeing how exactly other Sims would react in that case. I made Jake the most selfish, unlovable jerk I could (so I wouldn't get too attached). He went around the neighborhood seducing whatever poor Sim got in his way, the most notable of whom were Summer Holiday, Liberty Lee, and a married woman named Alondra Burton (the name similarities between Elondra and Alondra were not intentional, as Elondra was already born and named by the time Jake got Alondra to cheat). After I finished my experiment and killed Jake by overexposure to the sun, I had Ravyn go around picking up the autospawned urn and the 3 children he left behind. Not a difficult task, as 2 of the mothers lived together and the other one was easy enough to find. So, Ravyn adopted them and raised 'em as her own.

The oldest girl, Arana, was the first to get married. She had a high school sweetheart by the name of Ezra Wiseman, and they got "promised" pretty quickly. Over time I had to track down Ezra's family and age him up after Arana's birthday, and they got married that same day. They currently have 3 children: Leah, Celeste, and Aaron. Leah is more human than her family (Ravyn turned Ezra before she allowed him to marry her daughter), she has golden brown hair and likes bright colors. Celeste is like the direct opposite of her; her aesthetic is really dark and vampiric/witchy. They're both teens right now, as I said before. Ezra and Arana have taken in an orphan by the name of Milo Sanchez, who currently is falling for Celeste. I'm planning to make them have a similar love story to Celeste's parents'. Aaron doesn't have much in the way of an individual personality, as he's just a child. He seems to be a pretty average vampire kid. I don't think I have a plan for Leah yet, though.

Johnathan was the next to get married. He married his mother's best friend, Lilith Vatore (It sounds a bit weird when I say it like that, but they're all immortal vampires. Time and age doesn't really matter to them). He moved in with his wife and brother-in-law, and here's where things start to get interesting. I was bored one day, and decided to just make a randomized Sim vampire to move in with Johnathan and his family. This vampire, by the name of Mattias Taylor, looks almost exactly like someone I had a very severe crush on for an extended period of time. He just needed a different skin color and fluffier hair (he previously had stone-gray skin and a buzz cut), and voila. Just like that person. Now, before I run off on the Mattias tangent, I would like to state that Johnathan and Lilith have three kids, all girls, by the names of Loren, Anita, and Elsabeth. Loren is the oldest, and she's just a child. They don't have established personalities or stories yet.

Now, Raven DeathShade, the third biological child of Ravyn DeathShade, is completely based off of me. The hair, the style, the fashion sense, all me. She was supposed to be the next matriarch, once I got bored of Ravyn. She was supposed to be this powerful, intimidating, perfect replacement for her mother. But then she met Mattias, and she settled down. She chose love over power, stability and a quiet household over the rule of her siblings and the title of Matriarch of the DeathShade Family (the wealthiest and most influential family I've ever created). And I can't help but wonder if that was some sort of sign or psychological revelation I have discovered. Currently, they have 3 children. A child, my little Goth boi, Odin; a toddler, my spunky charmer Jareth, and a little baby named Angel. They're really my favorite couple, and they are such good parents as well.

Finally, there is Elondra. The youngest of the original DeathShade children, she became the second DeathShade Matriarch and married Alexander Goth(after he underwent an extensive makeover provided by yours truly, since he looked like a monkey). She has only one child, a baby named Romeo. She has inherited the DeathShade fortune and the family mansion, as her parents moved into Vlad's castle with Lucy and Antoinette (I ran out of household space). Cassandra Goth married Hank Lee, and they have a son named Carlos. Antoinette's still a teen, and Lucy's going to marry Caleb Vatore whenever I get around to having them meet. There are still several loose ends to tie up with generation 2, so I suppose I should stop working on gen 3 for now XD. But I have my family, my entire empire of vampires, so I suppose I'm satisfied. (Note: Mercedes and Katherine, since they are humans, live in Willow Creek. I have not focused on them much, since all my attention is on my vampires. They're happy).

Fricking loved the Sims! And then the Sims 2! Didn't play the Sims 3 that much because I was mostly just playing WoW, but now I'm playing the Sims 4 and have gotten almost all the packs for it in the almost 2 years that I've been playing it. S**t is expensive! I always just wanted Sims expansions as presents (bday and xmas) when I was a kid, and there's a picture of me ugly crying when I got the house party expansion. I was so happy! Then the bugger went and EXPLODED a few months later while I was playing, and it took months until I got a new copy of it.

Similar patterns are used in Casinos; they deter gamblers from looking at the floor, hence they focus back on the tables, slot machines etc. Yep, there are a lot of Casino psychological tricks, pumping oxygen, no clocks…
