30 Things People Found In Their Houses While Quarantine-Cleaning And Decided To Share Online
It's just like Mary Poppins taught us: "In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun. You find the fun and – snap! – the job's a game."
Maybe these words won't make you jump for joy at scrubbing your toilet, but cleaning your home can be just as exciting as having your home clean. With a little bit of luck, for example, you can discover things you didn't even remember you had. I mean, just look at the treasures people who have already begun their spring cleaning have found within their four walls. From a Blockbuster membership card to an old Game Boy Advance, these antiques definitely made their chores worthwhile.

Damn, Robin Williams is dead 6 years this august and I´m still sad. To see this is wonderful and kinda uplifting.
That is definitely a treasure for anyone that has lost someone they loved
OMG! That must have made her so happy to find!!!! My heart's just busting for her right now
It's a good idea to keep your home healthy during the coronavirus crisis. For starters, understand there's a difference between cleaning and disinfecting. According to Natasha Bhuyan, M.D., regional medical director at One Medical, "Cleaning is the removal of germs or dirt from the surface. This doesn't kill pathogens, it often just wipes them away—but it still lowers the spread of infection." Think vacuuming carpets, mopping floors, wiping countertops, dusting, etc.
Disinfection, on the other hand, is something more ruthless. It's the using chemicals to kill germs on surfaces. "Use CDC-approved disinfectants to target surfaces that have an increased amount of contacts such as doorknobs, handles, light switches, remotes, toilets, desks, chairs, sinks, and countertops," Dr. Bhuyan told Shape.
"The coronavirus is effectively destroyed by almost any household cleaner or simple soap and water," said Zimmerman, Daniel Zimmerman, Ph.D., senior vice president of research of cellular immunology at biotechnology company CEL-SCI Corporation. There are, however, a few materials the government is recommending specifically for the coronavirus pandemic. For example, the EPA released a list of recommended disinfectants to use against the novel coronavirus. But "pay attention to the manufacturer's instructions on how long the product should remain on the surface," Dr. Bhuyan said.
My wife found a small fortune in the basement today. We donated them to our local hospital.
I finally realized these were masks. My friend had them on her wish list????
You should have kept those for yourselves, jmho. I mean, you need some too right and it's only 10 of them.
Actully there is a pack of ten and a pack of 20 so technically they have 30....and u should have dominated them to me heck I would pay double the peice for them if needed...lol
Load More Replies...Dr. Bhuyan also added it can be a good idea to have a look at the American Chemistry Council's (ACC) Center for Biocide Chemistries' (CBC) list of cleaning supplies to fight the coronavirus, in addition to the CDC's home cleaning guide.
Some essentials to include in your coronavirus cleaning list are Clorox bleach; Lysol sprays and toilet bowl cleaners, and Purell disinfectant wipes.
Quarantine cleaning the garage and I hit the jackpot!
I have doubles of most of them. One dog eared and the other mint, PLUS the hard cover box set. (I have a problem)
Load More Replies...I have all the "big" ones, my 13 year old daughter is reading them now. (Our native language is Dutch, so she learns English while enjoying herself)
i have ALL the books!! everything! box set you name it!! LOVE me some c/h!!! this isn't even all of them!
Found the newspaper that announced Elizabeth as Queen
I just learned that British singer Vera Lynn (huge star in WWII) is still alive - she's 103! She actually just released a message to encourage her countrymates during this pandemic. Now I keep humming "We'll Meet Again" and "White Cliffs of Dover".
We came across a stack of love letters from my grandfather from WWII while stationed overseas.
If and/when you don't want them, please consider donating either to your local archive (or University archive), or an archive near where your grandfather was from. These letters are valuable for future researchers
Load More Replies...I still miss getting letters and writing them too. An e-mail is not the same thing. There's a lot more thought that goes into writing a letter by hand and it is much more personal. I have several boxes full of them and some are true gems, like the aerogram that found me in a different country in the spring after having spent the winter stuck on a thorn of one of the rosebushes in my parents' garden right next to the wall of their house. The aerogram is pierced through, all my mum's roses were red and, yes, it was a love letter. Precious!
Now is a perfect time to revive this. I've been handwriting letters the last two days and catching up with old friends and relatives I haven't seen in awhile
Load More Replies...They should make for some good reading—-and give you a glimpse into your parents as young adults (we never think of our parents as having been young). You might co e to understand them more deeply. However, it’s a good idea to ask them if it’s OK to read the letters first (think about it; would you want your kids reading some of the things you wrote to your main squeeze when you were younger?).
The plastic beside the bundle of letters looks like a guy with his back toward the letters.

WOW, that lineup tells the story of the mobile phone throughout the years.
May only be worth a fraction of £10K (GBP) but it's still a big wad of cash and a small fortune!
I had a mad friend who liked to drink - a lot !! He used to hide money in weird places (behind cupboards, in shoes, under carpets, in tins containing nails and screws etc ....)when he was plastered and have a deep clean twice a year, before he went on Summer holidays and before Christmas - he once found £2000 on each occasion ......
Was cleaning out a closet and found these Uno cards that are water resistant
Am I the only one who didn’t know that was a thing? Or am I to young?
These are perfect to play with in the Roman tub in that Minnesota home!
Or leave a few out on the porch for delivery drivers/neighbors!!
Load More Replies...All her life my gran stockpiled sugar! She never had any less than 6 bags in the house. Was a running joke with us lol! Consequence of being alive during WWII. She doesn't do it now, it's just her in the house and she doesn't take sugar in anything. She bought all those bags of sugar purely for my papa. Now I wish she was still stockpiling it - if it meant my papa was still here ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Smegheads? I love it. I used to have a bumper sticker that said: Phi Beta Smegma.
Quarantine Cleaning - found my very first bra (it’s the napkin on the bottom)
Wow. Remember they came in little cardboard boxes? Hey ladies, does anyone remember reading "Are you there God, it's me Margarit?" About the time you wore your first?
The book that helped me figure out womanhood. Loved it, hated it, then loved it again Best book ever.
I was a small A maybe till I stopped wearing them in the late 60s. I kept one for under dressy clothes, wore double padded sips or v neck boy tshirts on recommendation of doctor to keep chest warning San Francisco. Never went back. But I never had babies or nursed so growth in size from that and no need. It wasn't a "burn your bra" women's lib rebellion thing, more of a "Why bother?" The bras I got started on were white cotton, fastened in back, and uncomfortable. And more bra cup than me to fill them.
Load More Replies...Reminds me of the woman who said she never needed a training bra, her breasts popped out knowing all the tricks.
Look what I found while doing some spring cleaning. Original Star Wars figures from 1980.
Awesome! Have you seen the show the Goldberg's that is set in the '80's? I read that he goes online and buys 'Toys for the show. You should show him this on Twitter.
I’m a fanatic vintage SW collector, and the figures your found are (from top left to top right): Bossk (with right gun), IG-88 (missing both guns), Zuckuss (with the right gun) Bottom left to right: Greedo (missing gun), 4-LOM (Dengar the figure next to him is holding his gun haha), and then Dengar. Below that is a Han Solo frozen in carbonite block that was part of the Slave One space ship set (Boba Fett’s ship). These are not rare figures (millions of them were made), value is about $10 for the incomplete figures and $25 to $30 for the complete ones (with their weapons).
My dad found these tickets while quarantine cleaning
Found this while cleaning. Hi, Dad. Miss you
OMG! I hope you make it up to home every day for the rest of your life!
While cleaning out my attic I found out that Bruce Willis also had an early music career
Anybody else notice how Bruce Willis is self-isolating by surrounding himself with tons of badass women/his family & successfully co-parenting?? Because I clocked it, and I LIVE FOR IT
He even had a Number 1 single in the UK Chart. The British buying public's taste was terrible in those dark dark days.
Looked up the video for this and he had quite a career -- one live video is him singing on a broadcast with the Temptations.
This old box of straight razors I found cleaning out the basement
When we renovated our old bathroom some 20 years ago, we found a slit in a metal box in the wall under the mirror. I ripped it open and out fell dozens of razors. I thought that was done only in hotel rooms, why on earth would someone want to keep old razor blades like that??
It is done so you don't throw it in the trash can, where some poor wife, or child, can cut themselves while hauling the trash out to the dustbin. Then get arrested for child endangerment, etc.

We rented a Netflix DVD in like 2010 for the Wii. About 2 days ago I found it! It still works.
Why would it not work? DVDs don't expire, so unless it got damaged I would expect it to work basically forever.
Load More Replies...We still do this...I love the red packages in the mail! Netflix.DVD has movies that are not available streaming and our borrowing history of 14 years is intact.

Since we're all stuck in the house, my family finally had a chance to do some spring cleaning. Cleaned so deep that we unearthed some cans of food leftover from the Y2K scare. Behold, 20 year-old dehydrated broccoli.
"Noah's Pantry"... love it. Stock up before the next apocalyptic deluge!
I found a tin of ratatouille that was years old. It exploded when I attempted to open it. It went all over the friggin' ceiling and my kitchen cupboards.
I actually still have and use my iPod nano! It's taped together. But I use it. Every night.
I keep finding, losing, and finding my iPod nano that my dad had engraved for my 13th birthday
I got all of this still in working condition, 2 purple advance so my kids love it they play Donkey Kong and Mario on it.
I'm in the middle of renovating my partially finished basement. I found a stash of og Fluke multimeters behind a wall. All of them work save 5 and most are brand new. Originally these would’ve been worth between $5-6k.
I have one of these. Mine is still working rock solid after many many years of use.

Jewelry made from human teeth was a thing in the Victorian Era (and before, to a lesser extent). I've seen a fair number of cufflinks made from molars.

Cleaning the shed and found old Camel cigarette ad from the 40s in pretty good condition all things considered! Anyone know about it? Worth anything? Tax stamp in lower-left corner dated 5-31-41
What material? Cardboard or tin? These vintage signs are sought after by interior designers and people that are decorating their mancave. I've seen them make $150 and more during auctions. It depends on the material and condition though.
It was not by chance that the ad depicts a well-groomed blond caucasian, young and happy, looking like he is enjoying his robust health. Every smoker seeing this is now about to lit another cig, or at least you are thinking about it, addict! Damn am I glad I quit.
On the bright side, finding long lost surf legend memorabilia while quarantine purging is cool
Spring quarantine cleaning. Found this.
It's a windbreaker or waterproof anorak. If I remember correctly, it came out as radiohead-merchandise. Right along with the "KID A"-album. Could be worth a bit, I'm pretty sure they aren't produced anymore

Load More Replies...I found these items during my quarantine cleaning. Who can name them all and what they’re used for? To make it more challenging what years were each item being used an are any of them still being used in your home. I’ll wait for it, millennials
Millennial are ages around 25 to 39. So most of them will recognize thumbtacks, a cassette, pencil lead and several other things. Millennial sweet born starting in 1980.
Wiki states it starts 1981 onwards, and even then it says a more accurate term for kids post Gen X but pre-Millennial is Xennials and I tend to agree. I was born in the 80s and the term 'Millennial' wasn't really widely used back then. I know it was coined in the 80s but I was online all the time in 98 and I never heard it. It was all 'Gen X this' back then. I've only heard Millennial bandied about for the past 10 years or so, mostly to refer to people younger than me.
Load More Replies...From left to right, top to bottom coming from a European "Millennial" : iPod suffle first gen 256 or 512 mb (2005) I would guess a pager ? A matchbox (still used today) Mechanical pencil refill (still used today) 3M seatbell cutter (still used today) 3G/4G usb network key (still used today) Thumb tacks (still used today) Computer screen cleaner (still used today) Cassette recorder/ player Coin for shopping cart Cassette
One correction: It is a 3M letter opener, not a seatbelt cutter. We still use those in my office.
Load More Replies...My youngest born in 2005 still uses the pencil lead...or did until school died this year lol
When did thumb tacks and pencil refills fall out of use? You can still buy those.
From top to bottom, left to right: iPod shuffle (2003), the at&t box looks like an old modem (I don't know since I wasn't born in us that one is unknown to me), matchbox??, Pencil leads, the 3m in red is a letter opener, Sprint wireless modem for on the go internet (2010) thumb tacks, 3M box is monitor cleaner, cassette player (90's)the star I think is either a keychain, car alarm or token keychain ( but the last one makes no sense since it is attached to a car key) and last but not least a cassette also 90's. Don't know much about the years but I think I got everything.
Top right, mechanical-pencil leads. Red plastic thing with 3M logo is a letter opener.
