Whether we're talking about people's height, truck sizes, or even the health of our skin and the calmness of our neighborhood, context is king.

If we had nothing to juxtapose these things against, we simply wouldn't know how they "fit" into the world.

So in an attempt to broader your horizons, we at Bored Panda put together a new collection of the most interesting comparisons. Continue scrolling to check out the pictures and catch up on the series here, here, and here.

If these pictures make you experience awe, I have great news for you. It is associated with lower stress and inflammation levels, and a higher sense of meaning and connection.

According to researchers who study the emotion, awe has two fundamental components. It is a response to encountering something more vast, complex, or mind-blowing than we had conceived of either physically or conceptually.

And the experience also induces a change in how we see the world, producing “little earthquakes in the mind.”

To understand the concept, it helps to know how the brain responds to what we perceive as mundane.

Over the course of our lives, our brains learn and encode what normal is and predict what we think should happen next, based on our internal understanding of the world.

“That prediction of what happens next guides our behavior. It is crucial for being able to function in this incredibly complicated world,” said Michelle “Lani” Shiota, an associate professor of social psychology at Arizona State University. “But it does narrow our perspective, it narrows our vision. And it simply doesn’t account for everything.”

Sometimes I Don’t Realize How Far I’ve I Come Until I Look Back

I spent most of my adolescence in and out of hospitals and treatment centers, every day at war inside my own head and scared of my thoughts. I had to re-discover who I am, what made me happy, and what made life worth living for.

Research found that experiencing something extraordinary may make us (and our worries) feel small. And not in a bad way.

“You know, by adulthood, we move through the world pretty immersed in our own concerns, our own minutiae of the day-to-day, our own responsibilities, and it can be hard to keep a sense of perspective about how that fits into the grand scheme of things,” Shiota explained.

SRSLY!! I'm so dang jealous! I majored/got my degree in English/Creative Writing with the intent to become an author. I have so many novels/worlds/books "in my head". My dad unfortunately had an accident that resulted in a catastrophic brain injury when I was 18, so my author dreams were put on hold (he was fully disabled as a result of the accident, and we chose to take care of him at home, and I was his primary caregiver because <3 my dad) but these days with modern self-publishing options (literally Amazon has one), I have no excuse any more! XD This dude in the pic has just lit a fire under my butt... I'm going to get back to writing like I always wanted to do! :D My dad passed away last year after 21 years of being in a near-vegetative state, so as awful as it sounds... now I have the time/life energy :(

A very hefty feat. I love all your book covers. The artwork on books can make or break if I purchase the book. I will have to check out your books as I am very big into fantasy, like Piers Anthony. Simon Green, Terry Pratchett and Diana Wynn Jones etc.

Next time, list his name. I had to increase the size on my puter to 50-0% before I could read it Glynn Stewart, Science fiction/Space opera. Just my favorite genre, just went to audible and purchased Starship's Mage. Book one of 12 (so far) in the series. I hope I hate it, that's an awful lot of Audible credits. And that's just one series lol

Many years ago while recovering from shoulder surgery I sat down in front of my typewriter and wrote my first, and only, book. I sent it to a few publishers and it was accepted by two of them... Unfortunately I couldn't afford all of the publishing costs so it stayed on a shelf. Three years ago I sent it to my best friend to read. Soon afterwards he was thrust into a battle for his life against colon cancer...a battle he would not win and last year the world lost a beautiful soul. His wife (a hoarder) added my manuscript to her collection and says it now belongs to her. This story was one that was apparently never meant to be read... Stan, I miss you more everyday, you better be saving that dance you promised me.

As somebody who's written a whole ONE book, even if these were fairly formulaic (and they might not be), that's a huuuuge amount of work the author's put in. And if he's written that much he's almost certainly gotten better as he goes.
