These Two Kittens Were Left To Die, But Now Go On Epic Adventures With Us

Bolt and Keel were found abandoned in a bush behind the garbage bin of a local park. The plan was to take them to the local shelter, but it wasn’t open after work. The next day their humans left on a two day canoeing, hiking, and camping trip and didn’t know what to do with the kittens, so of course decided to bring them on the adventure too!

The kittens quickly won their way into their human’s hearts. Ever since, the brothers Bolt and Keel have embraced hiking, kayaking, sailing, and are always looking for new adventures.

A few months ago, we found a pair of kittens abandoned in a bush behind the garbage bin

We wanted to take them to the local shelter, but it wasn’t open after work

The next day we planned to go hiking and we did not find anyone who could watch the kittens

So we decided to take them with us!

They quickly won our hearts

Now the kittens are our adventuring buddies, and mostly hang out in our jackets and bagpacks

They have embraced the hiking and kayaking and are always looking forward to new adventures

When I lived in Claremont CA (as a teenager) my family had a little Manx cat. She would go on walks all around the little town with me and when she didn't want to walk she would ride in a f***y pack. No leash she would just come when I shook my keys and follow along. People would be amazed. Thanks for posting these awesome photos and story.

I am glad to see the harness and leash. That's a responsible way to take cats outdoors. It keeps them safe and they'll live longer. It also keeps them from killing vulnerable wild animals (such as native birds), which can be a big problem with free-roaming cats. Thanks for setting a terrific example. They look so comfortable with you!

I saw the story about Bolt and Keel on CBC NEWS Vancouver today. I love that you two girls rescued those kittens from a certain death! My cat, Mister Kitty, was also a rescue cat. He used to live up the road from us, but his humans moved away, and left him behind. The poor little guy came to us for help. We couldn't turn him away. That was 5 years ago. He's a lovely Norwegian Forest cat, and he's happy as can be! I love my little boy!

The harness and leash help keep them safe. Cats can't be walked exactly like a dog, but they can get used to a harness and leash. Free-roaming cats can end up getting hit by traffic, killed by other animals or get unnecessarily sick or injured. They also kill birds, which is can reduce wild populations. I like petting cats and I like watching birds, so I'm really pleased that the both the cats and the birds are safer.
