Photographer Travels Around The World To Capture The Incredible Beauty Of Red Hair, Photographs More Than 37 Redheads
While redheads have become synonymous with Ireland and Scotland, American photographer Brian Dowling who now lives in Berlin(Germany), photographed over 130 redheads from 20 different countries for his project “Redhead Beauty”.
Red hair is the rarest hair color in the world and is caused by a gene mutation know as MC1R which affects about 1% of the world population. This gene mutation can also affect a person’s tolerance to pain, sunlight, and their hairs’ ability to gray. Red hair will instead turn blonde or pure white when you age.
Brian started this portrait project which spanned three summers to show the real beauty of red hair and wanted to help break down stereotypes people often have of redheads with his photographs. His art book “Redhead Beauty” is available on Kickstarter.

She looks very Dutch. Must be the cheeky smile. As for the colour, please note that it's an overcast day (not at all unusual in the Netherlands) so the hair looks a bit duller. The colour is close to the dark blonde that many southern Dutch (including I) have, but it's definitely red.

I was looking forward to seeing these, now that I have I'm disappointed. They are all thin young woman. I'm a middle aged redhead with 6 red headed sons. I wish the pictures represented a broader range of readheads.

Um, they all look the same. All tall, thin, with diamond face shape. Where are the short chubby red heads? Also they are all White. There are African Americans and Latinos who are red heads.

I doubt the photographer would seek out only those who fit this description. And maybe if he does only find females of this particular image beautiful, who are we to judge?

Are there no red heads from the China, Middle East and Africa. I also noticed that no POC were represented but many have red hair. Maybe this can be updated to include a more complete picture of the beauty that is red hair.

You do... your's is just the same specific point of view of those who accept the narrow world they were cultivated to see; and never notice how narrow it is until told that it's extremely by those not included. It's also a very self serving point of view at the expense of negating the majority of 'others' in the real world. That's why you are noticing people aren't pretending your view is the only one worth representing. Until your narrow point of view expands and is honest about the real world, people will be pointing out this problem with Eurocentricim that inspires bigotry and false notions of White superiority. No more silence. Let's be open about how this type of limited perspective is a lie and how much it hurts.

What some pioneering photographers recognized straight away was that very extraordinary and memorable photographs are created like paintings. A photographer can & should create and capture an image that is admirably felicitous. Or is so contrary that it ultimately creates discussions. If a provocative image is captured both exactly & correctly, and if that image that is too beautiful to just look away, or so brazenly honest that, once captured > it will then be published, or perchance, be destined to be featured in a public or private exhibit. Like portraits and drawings and paintings, a photographer may need to wait for or even to create a perfect lighting. While also artfully moving & shifting the subject or the background until all is Just Right.... Then changing the camera angle again and again. Patiently then, the photographer begins to process the image. When, at last, the image is sitting on top of the glossy paper .... > Then the touch-up stages may commence.

What we see here is this photographer's work. He carefully selected his media ~>incredibly beautiful, quite fine, ginger~women from all over the world. And he used his well practiced photography skills to bring these extraordinary red-headed ladies to these pages. He offered us his art. His photography is his art and his media are these fine, magnificently portrayed woman. Instead of choosing to critique, I choose to appreciate. Next, he may promise us interesting and brazen brunettes to casually, comforably look upon and discuss and make our commentary. I look forward to seeing more of this photographer's illustrious work. it's pretty interesting that different red heads around the world share a lot of the same bone structure in the face. Not all share it but of them do in these pictures especially in the chin and cheekbone area.

I think you see the same bone structure mainly because the photographer chose to pretty much take photos of the same body type. There are redheads in Latin America, Asia, and Africa. These people are not depicted.

tfw it says "across the world" and it only shows the same countries/persons over and over again. What about Italy, France, Belgium, Sweden and all the other countries which have red heads? For the record, if you already use the term "across the world" you should actually travel and not being cheap. Rather use "from various countries" if you cant afford to visit more places... Aside from that, where are the male counterparts? It doesn't say "females with red hair" or so... ?!

My Daughters is a beautiful Redhead, they are not showing the true nature of a red head in these photos! We wear our hair up most days because we have to much of it, it's always a mess and the curl is untamable! My daughter and I are both thicker females, my daughter has freckles everywhere and I only have them where the sun normally touches. She is hazel eyes and my eyes are blue! I wish I could post pics of a bunch of "common" amazing redheads!

Different men are attracted to different types of women. This photographer is clearly attracted to these type of women. Is he not allowed to then show his work? Is he required to include women he is not attracted to or men which oerhaps he has no interest in photographing? Give me a break. There is nothing untowardly sexual about these photographs, leave the artist alone. If men weren't hard-coded genetically to be attracted to certain tyoes of women, none of us would be here.

Are there no red heads from the China, Middle East and Africa. I also noticed that no POC were represented but many have red hair. Maybe this can be updated to include a more complete picture of the beauty that is red hair.

You do... your's is just the same specific point of view of those who accept the narrow world they were cultivated to see; and never notice how narrow it is until told that it's extremely by those not included. It's also a very self serving point of view at the expense of negating the majority of 'others' in the real world. That's why you are noticing people aren't pretending your view is the only one worth representing. Until your narrow point of view expands and is honest about the real world, people will be pointing out this problem with Eurocentricim that inspires bigotry and false notions of White superiority. No more silence. Let's be open about how this type of limited perspective is a lie and how much it hurts.

Im a natural redhead and these women are diverse and beautiful in each individual way. What some pioneering photographers recognized straight away was that very extraordinary and memorable photographs are created like paintings. A photographer can & should create and capture an image that is admirably felicitous. Or is so contrary that it ultimately creates discussions. I think you see the same bone structure mainly because the photographer chose to pretty much take photos of the same body type. There are redheads in Latin America, Asia, and Africa. These people are not depicted.

tfw it says "across the world" and it only shows the same countries/persons over and over again. What about Italy, France, Belgium, Sweden and all the other countries which have red heads? For the record, if you already use the term "across the world" you should actually travel and not being cheap. Rather use "from various countries" if you cant afford to visit more places... Aside from that, where are the male counterparts? It doesn't say "females with red hair" or so... ?!

My Daughters is a beautiful Redhead, they are not showing the true nature of a red head in these photos! We wear our hair up most days because we have to much of it, it's always a mess and the curl is untamable! My daughter and I are both thicker females, my daughter has freckles everywhere and I only have them where the sun normally touches. She is hazel eyes and my eyes are blue! I wish I could post pics of a bunch of "common" amazing redheads!

Different men are attracted to different types of women. This photographer is clearly attracted to these type of women. Is he not allowed to then show his work? Is he required to include women he is not attracted to or men which oerhaps he has no interest in photographing? Give me a break. There is nothing untowardly sexual about these photographs, leave the artist alone. If men weren't hard-coded genetically to be attracted to certain tyoes of women, none of us would be here.
