Poop seems to be dutch (poupen). Look stems from Germanic (luogen). Loop is Gaelic (lup, Irish "lubiam"). Tool is Germanic or Norse (tol) (slang use as penis is from 1550s). Fool is latin (follus). Cool is PIE via Germanic, Dutch and Norse (gel, kol, koel, kala). Drool is Dutch (drullen). Pool is Germanic (pfuhl). Hook is Frisian, Dutch Germanic (hok, haak, haken). Swoon is probably Germanic (swogen). Too is Germanic (zu).

One of the reasons people find English spellings difficult is often because they are unaware that the varied and often odd seeming spellings used in English that represent a relatively small number of sounds actually indicate the origin of the words. The obvious examples would be Chinese loan-words, like Qi (where q gets a ch sound). Another common example would be all of the -ough words, which I think are Scandinavian in origin (or perhaps Germanic). Actual English words still in use are very few.

But how many of those words are actually English in origin?

Good is fairly (European) universal: Germanic, Frisian, Dutch, Norse, Saxon, Slavonic, Russian, Lithuanian, (guot/gut, god, goed, goðr, gōd (long 'o' sound), godu, godnyi, goda )- but originating in either PIE or Sanskrit (gedh, gadh).

Other clear examples would be many French-originating words (e.g. -ette, eau) and obviously Latin (e.g. ps-, -ia, -men, -us, -ph-, etc.).
