My name is Dimitri Bourriau, and I am a French artist also known as 'Jahz Design'. I graduated in graphic design, but I've always been interested in history and architecture.

I recently had the chance to capture the most beautiful theaters and cinemas in Paris through my lens. I spent many hours surveying its theaters and cinemas to find the most unexpected angles and the most surprising perspectives on these incredible buildings.

Many of these theatres are old. Wonder how they were light up before electricity. By gas? Same for the acoustics. It's amazing you could hear the actors without electrical amplification. Yes and opera. Singing in front of a large orchestra. You must have a powerful voice.

I started my career as a photographer with abandoned places and the buildings that intrigued me the most were theaters and cinemas! The architecture of these places fascinates me and by moving to Paris, I discovered the extent of the architectural wealth of the capital in terms of theaters and cinema. So the idea came to me to photograph them as they are today, as numerous as they are!

Those are partial view seats or obstructed view, far cheaper then full view seats.

I particularly enjoyed photographing the Daunou Theater. It has the distinction of being the only theater in Paris to have blue seats. The atmosphere is incredible and I had to take my photos in total darkness with the few rays of light I had available. This is the photo that was the most difficult to take but also the most pleasant. I really enjoyed creating the illusion of pretty artificial light.

What are the folding table-like things at the ends of each row of seats?

For the moment I would say the theater of the Château de Fontainebleau. This theater is incredible. It has a lot of little hidden details, and if I could, I would have spent a whole week in it photographing every nook and cranny! In my eyes it is one of the most beautiful theaters that I have been able to capture. I obviously hope to have other great discoveries like this in the years to come, to relive the emotion that overwhelmed me the first time I saw it!

Apart from my theater project which is still current, my next series will be dedicated to the most beautiful greenhouses in France. There are a lot of them across France, and I have already had the chance to capture some of them. Working with light is extremely interesting when photographing a greenhouse, given that its architecture relies heavily on glass.

I think it's interesting how they've added the stage lighting. Might be effective but ruins the look of the theater
