Now, if they put the original It instead of the remake, I'd lean towards that. Tim Curry was much more disturbing and scary as Pennywise

I remember seeing Nightmare on Elm Street when it first came out. My 2 guy pals and I went to go see it. It scared the c**p out of all 3 of us so much that we sat on a chaise style lawn chair, me in the middle and kept each other awake all night until dawn. We did that for like 4 nights in a row before one of their parents caught us and made us all go home

I choose to quibble with the category of "Halloween movie". If you just mean "scary movie", then say so, and make a separate list for the "spooky comedies". If you mean "a movie that takes place on, or around Halloween, or in someway incorporates Halloween" then several of these are not really Halloween movies. The Shining, for example, while perhaps the best or creepiest movie on the list, mostly takes place in winter. IT is a summer movie through and through. I don't recall The VVitch or Hereditary having any particular timeframe. In contrast, Halloween, Hocus Pocus, Trick r' Treat, and Nightmare are all *about* Halloween. Sorry to ruin anyone's fun - I'm just feeling a little analytical right now.
