I spent 40 hours creating this mask out of maple and cedar bark.
I started out my carving journey influenced by the beauty of African, first nations and other aboriginal tribal customs when it has come to their ceremonial masks.
This mask is not a reproduction of any of my early influences but is more an homage to them.
Dimensions 23″ high x 17″ wide x 6″ deep

I started out with this massive block of maple. I was barely able to get it on the table!
Next was to determine the outer shape
Starting to get into the facial features
A little more definition!
