At this point, we all know that dogs love sitting upright like hoomans for reasons that remain largely a mystery. Take a look at Bored Panda’s previous post with pets sitting like total weirdos and loving it to see what I mean.
It turns out, hooman sit is not the only sit popular in the doggo world. Apparently, there’s one resting posture which is a powerful combination of both comfort and style. Brought to the center of attention by the Twitter account Thoughts Of Dog, “the rarest sit” is the holy grail of dog positions. Here's how it's executed, no chairs needed: “my butt is on one stair, while my front feet extend to the stair below.” Location is free to improvise, but stairs, couches, and beds are among the faves.
People soon realized the multi-level stair sit exists not only in theory, but also in practice. In no time, the thread was flooded with photos of pooches, dixies, and mopsies mastering the multilevel sit. We picked some of the funniest levitating—excuse me—rarest sitting doggos down below.

Sometimes it seems that dogs prefer sitting like weirdos for no apparent reason. But it turns out, there are millions of bizarre ways canines can squat and it’s kinda perfectly normal. To find out more about dog sits, Bored Panda reached out to Kimberly Freeman, the founder of City Dog Expert and a professional dog trainer.
Kimberly told us that it’s totally normal that dogs don’t always do what we expect of them in any given situation. “Just like with humans, dog sitting positions are sometimes more 'unique' than others,” she said. For example, “‘frog legs’ (legs straight back and to each side of the body) are very common in puppies” who still don’t have their bones completely developed.
My dog used to do this to stretch her knee as she slid off the couch. Doggy yoga.
“Currently having five dogs myself, and volunteering with countless rescue and foster dogs, most dogs prefer a curled up or straight position,” Kimberley noted.
The dog trainer also said that dogs don’t think the same way as humans, so even if “curling into a small ball, head resting off of the sofa, legs tucking under or over the couch” doesn’t look comfy to us, many dogs find it very enjoyable.
Bored Panda also contacted Michele Wan, a certified applied animal behaviorist and the founder of Advanced Dog Behavior Solutions, to find out what she had to say about the "rarest sit."
Michelle commented that “Some dogs appear to sit in these positions so they can be at a certain vantage point or location.”
She also gave an example: “you might find a large dog sitting in a 'multi-level' position on the stairs in order to look out a window or door.” Michelle assured us that even if these positions look uncomfortable to us, “many dogs seem relaxed and comfortable in these positions.”
When you are not allowed on Hoomen's bed, but you still gotta do it in most sneaky way.
Booty = class. front paws = The moment that door opens, i will run like flash.
Such stylish puppers! Who wants to just sit on the floor like any old creature?!
While animals are sometimes just weird, remember to check if weird sits are caused by attempts to ease pain
Yeah I'm thinking about this with my puppy she kind of sits funny like she has hip problems she's not even one years old yet though so I don't know
