it's said that the Chumash tribe of Indians (along with rock paintings that might depict them) may have carried the tale to the Spanish invaders but also some Anglo-American travelers, hunters & settlers told tales of same. interesting at least. though it's now conjectured that it just might be a strange trick of the eye brought upon by exhaustion of making such a trek.

These are classic "shadow people" - seen all over the world, not just in the Santa Lucia Mountains. They come in many forms and types - read the book "Darkness Walks" by Jason Offut. Many are dimensional travellers, others are evil. It's best to not to interact with them - though if you can take a quick photo, that would be great!

The hooded figures will not hurt you. Do not enter the Dog Park.

they're actually very pleasant if you take the time to greet them.

They were brimmed hats or walking sticks with no features so how would you know where to stare the down at, no features no eyes to stare you down. Hummm

maybe it just enough to appear that way. also they are said to appear as tall as 13' - 14' & often wear cloaks or hoods & some tales say they have glowing yellow &/or red eyes, some say no eyes appear. Yikes!

that's rude not to address them properly and how do you acknowledge their presence if your unsure about their existence.
