Before I get downvoted for sharing some reason why management is heartless, I'll add I see both sides and there is no black and white. Obviously kidney failure/hospital is no reason for reprimand. Now...onward. I have done management and I can say it has been difficult when you have a huge amount of employees who are constantly out for some reason and you have to get them covered (legally can't run low staffed) Some take advantage (and sometimes you know sometimes don't and can't be a gullible pushover) and after several times with different reasons it gets to the point management has to do something because they can't run as a business. I have worked with some great staff but they had illnesses and it was hard because they just needed to work in a job they liked, and have that financial and insurance support, but the position needed reliability. This is more typical at service jobs than office work jobs.

If only the US hadn't been so brainwashed against socialism and unionisation. 🤦🏻‍♂️

When I was a supply teacher in Canada, I still had to go in during blizzards even if the regular teachers couldn't/wouldn't... staff had to be available for any children who walked to school.
