Entitled Know-It-All Ruins Her Hair After Lying To Her Cousin About It Being Naturally Blonde

“Liar, liar, pants on fire!” yell people when they catch someone being dishonest. But actions speak louder than words, and that’s what some people turn to to teach them a lesson.

Reddit user WiscOhioNative9 told the ‘Malicious Compliance‘ community about how his little sister wouldn’t let their cousin get away with her lies. The girls were sharing semi-permanent dye when the cousin said her hair wasn’t bleached. The little sis knew she was lying but carried on nevertheless. Unsurprisingly, the new color didn’t look great.

Bored Panda has reached out to the author of the Reddit post. They were kind enough to answer a few of our questions. You will find their thoughts in the text below.

It’s important to pay attention to what’s been done with the hair in the past before dyeing it a new color

This teenager lied about previously treating her hair, which led to an act of malicious compliance and a disastrous dye job

There are hundreds of reasons people choose to lie, though some of them might not seem understandable to others

Lying is never a good idea as it rarely ever leads to anything positive. But then, why do people lie? Some do it to save themselves or others from the consequences of their actions. A few might seek to spare someone’s feelings or avoid certain negative emotions (such as embarrassment) themselves. They might have hundreds of arguments for that as a lot depends on each particular situation.

Yet certain individuals lie for reasons that seem not worth doing so. “Some people get so accustomed to lying that they do so even when there is no clear purpose, and when their lies are easily disproven, leaving everyone scratching their heads over the point of their deceptions,” the clinical psychologist David J. Ley wrote in Psychology Today. He indicated that the reasoning behind such instances might not be clear to others, but it makes sense in the heads of the storytellers. In addition to that, they might feel that telling the truth would mean losing control over the situation or cause disappointment to others.

Whatever their reasons are, there might be more Pinocchios among us than you think. For instance, people in the US arguably tell four lies a day. And even though nearly a quarter of Americans believe they have an excellent poker face, more than half (53%) of them say they are able to point out when someone’s lying.

People of a certain age tend to lie more than others, and adolescents seem to do it the most

According to Cross River Therapy, parents are the group of people that’s most lied to, followed by friends and siblings respectively. They also indicate that children tell their first dishonest tales at around two or three years old. By the time they reach four, most of them have already developed an understanding of what lying means.

However, toddlers or young children are far from the ones that lie the most. As a matter of fact, together with the elderly, they are on the lower end of the scale. Research shows that adolescents are most prone to deceiving others, and 16-year-old Anna in the OP’s story is no exception.

The OP admitted he didn’t really understand the reasoning behind their cousin’s decision. “I’m not totally sure why she lied. I don’t think it was because of an insecurity based on the fact that the next day she dyed it back to her natural brunette. I think it was just something she chose to lie about on a whim but this time it had consequences,” he told Bored Panda.

Some community members seemed to be surprised about certain aspects of the story

The comment section was buzzing with people’s opinions, the OP replied to some of them

I had to dye my hair black to get rid of hair that wasn't even entirely red, just red-toned. I can't imagine how Anna will get rid of her bright red hair lol. I don't think it'll ever wash out, she will have to dye black like me (or maybe a dark brown would work, might turn out auburn) over it or grow it out.

She dyed her hair dark brown the next day? That must've been some bright red, because red is what you put on bleached hair before dying it brown or it'll turn green.

She may have fixed one problem but created another in the process. Her hair is going to straight up break off from being over treated. Yikes.

I didn't find my parents particuarly strict for the time, but they must have been appaerently. I wasn't allowed colouring my hair with other colours than those who wash out in one hairwash at 12 years old, and no bleached hair because of.. well.. chemicals and stuff..🤷

that makes sense honestly. I wasn't allowed to dye my whole head until I was 13 so me and my mom always dyed our ends over the summer together. Now I just constantly change my hair colors with colors that will show up over my hair without bleach. I use overtone conditioners if you're interested! They're all natural and you can also buy the dyes, but the conditioners work similarly. Just wear gloves and make sure to clean out the shower/bath right after any spills so it doesn't stain

Yeah she'll have to cut that out to get rid of it completely. Red dyes are so warm and turn so brassy. A dark cool brown might help but it's always hard to be sure how much color the hair will hold.

That L'oreal hair dye is unfortunately, more permanent than it seems. I dyed a small part of my hair blue, and it stayed blue for months.

That's blue for you. I used semi-permanent dye to put blue streaks in my grey hair and they lasted over 18 months!

My husband used to be a music teacher. He NEVER had a student in the room with the door closed (male or female & age didn't matter). He had a 15 y/o girl show up wearing what he referred to as "hoochi Mama" clothes - short shorts & a crop top. He told her to go sit in the lobby while he called her Mother to come pick her up. He made it very clear that he would not continue to give her music lessons if she couldn't show up dressed appropriately. He had a good friend (I think he taught at the same studio) who was accused of "sexual impropriety" with a minor. He was arrested, his name & reputation ruined, he lost his house, his wife and his kids. Turns out it was all because this little sl*t got pregnant & needed a scapegoat - it could have been one of many guys. The rub? This guy had a vasectomy right about the time she was born & could prove it, but not before everyone decided he was a perv & he lost everything.

I am completely lost as to how his post could garner any negative comments towards him! All the neg. comments are either people just assuming what happened, pointing their fingers at the wrong person, or just downright stupid. I didn't need to read ANY of his added comments to re-explain what happened. It was pretty straight forward the 1st time. Why not let kids play with hair dye? I highly doubt they were all gathered secretly in some hidden bathroom dying their hair without anyone noticing they weren't around & checking on them. No one said they didn't have permission, so why SAY they didn't? And he didn't say he had his record button on standby to VIDEO record her doing anything...it was pretty self explanatory he meant AUDIO recording. I basically took that to mean she often SAYS things that are untrue and may come up in the future. And last of all...it wasn't like this was all planned MONTHS in advance to get at the lying cousin. She lied, she said do it, they did it. The End.

Malicious compliance stories work best when you're punching up, like an employee making their boss/manager deal with the consequences of an unreasonable request. A story about a grown man gloating about a child's hair being ruined just because he thinks she's a brat makes him seem like a jerk, and immature as well.

This is content that hurts youth and is one of the various reasons why youth have anxiety, depression and suicide attempts. If you look at the research on brain development of a teenager they are indeed impulsive and driven by their amygdala to lie or manipulate for social reasons. It is developmental and detrimental for them to grow into adults. To socially humiliate them in any way either directly or through social media harms their development. This should have been kept private amongst those involved and not put out in the social network for all to see and ridicule. Shame on you bored panda for perpetuating an epidemic of youth anxiety, depression and suicide. This CHILD will most likely see and or hear about this one way or another and be drastically affected by it. I hope those who care about her help her seek therapy to learn from her behavior and to not internalize this scenario into a repeating dialog in her head as she grows into an adult. No one deserves such humiliation.

Esh. Even if her hair hadn’t been dyed, it wouldn’t have been burgundy highlights on light hair. This family is nuts for letting a bunch of tweens and teens fool around with hair dye. Parent these kids!
