We all have stuff in our homes that holds a certain sentimental value for us. The post’s author from today’s story is no different — she has a teddy bear. Yet recently, she encountered some drama related to this bear when her boyfriend decided to throw it out just because, for him, it was unpleasant to look at it. And, well, let’s just say, she surely avenged her beloved teddy in a similarly devastating way right before ending the relationship with the inconsiderate man.

Sadly, occasionally some people can be very insensitive to other’s sentimental belongings, even if they seem to know that person very well

One day, her boyfriend decided to throw it out because it looked ugly to him, so as revenge, the woman destroyed his extensive LEGO collection and threw him out

Typically, people hold sentimental value toward certain objects because they remind them of a certain person, time, place, or feeling. In today’s story, the post’s author has a teddy bear. It was given to her by her late grandmother when she was dying from cancer. At that time, the OP was only 8 years old, and when giving said teddy bear, the grandma told the girl to take care of it and talk with it anytime she missed her.

The woman’s boyfriend knows how much this teddy bear means to her, as not only does she tell him, but he also sees her hugging and talking to it. This makes his actions even more awful.

He decided that the teddy was not appealing to look at due to its ruggedness. Well, it’s no surprise it looks raggedy, as back in the day, the OP used to carry it everywhere with her, and it suffered damage, such as getting its eyes and arms pulled out and sewn back together. Yet, its appearance doesn’t diminish its sentimental value for the woman.

She found out about the teddy bear’s disappearance after buying a button to sew in its eye and realizing it wasn’t in her room. She looked for it for hours while the boyfriend simply watched her do it. Then, he caved and confessed to throwing it out, which made the woman feel betrayed.

So, as revenge, she went to his room and destroyed his extensive LEGO collection — threw it around the room, out of the window, and into the trash. Predictably, this made the man lose it, but she threw him out of their home.

He tried to convince her not to throw him out and break up, but it didn’t work, as the woman felt completely disgusted by him.

Image credits: Quang Nguyen Vinh (not the actual photo)

Luckily, the majority of people online weren’t as cruel as the ex-boyfriend. They felt sorry for her loss. Some even said that her late grandmother’s gift was not only the teddy bear but the ability to understand how awful her boyfriend was before they committed to each other even more seriously.

But apparently, not all the comments were so kind. In the update given in the same post, the woman talked about various men accusing her of messing with her ex’s private stuff, but they looked over the fact that he did it to her stuff first.

And it’s not like she has some excessive, unhealthy attachment to that teddy. It was given to her by her beloved late grandma, and she has a right to be upset! And while maybe destroying someone else’s stuff wasn’t the most morally correct thing to do, in her case, it’s understandable why she acted that way — she suffered a loss at the hands of a person she trusted.

Well, maybe the boyfriend and the many people online who commented nasty stuff about the woman just don’t realize how even such a raggedy object can hold important sentiments for people. At the same time, they view the LEGO collection as stuff with a lot of value.

So, maybe they’re just ignorant to the fact that sometimes even stuff that didn’t take a lot of money and time to put together can still be valuable, and you don’t even have to feel that way about it yourself to appreciate it for someone else.

Yet, the story doesn’t end on such a sad note. A few netizens also wondered if there was maybe a way to track the teddy down if, for instance, the ex-boyfriend knew where he threw it away. And according to the update, it was possible to track it down. While it took 3 hours of digging in the dumpster, she was able to find it. So, in a way, it all ended happily!

The majority of folks online understood the motivations behind her actions and even suggested looking for the teddy bear in the dumpster, which she did and was successful!

I watched an interview once of Laura Bates, who wrote Men Who Hate Women; its a book on online misogyny. The male interviewer asked her how she found such extreme people (obviously expecting some dark web answer) and she was like, "First, I went on Reddit..." I had to pause the interview, I was laughing so hard.

I have a stuffed German Shepherd that I received when I was 5 years old. I am 42 now. Chace (the plushie; I didn't know how to spell "Chase" properly at 5, lol) looks "raggedy" af and probably is "disgusting to look at" for someone who doesn't love him like I do. He doesn't even have a nose any more; it has been gone lo these many years XD and his eyes are chipped and scratched up, etc etc. But Chace still gets pride of place in my bed with me XD and I am not ashamed to say I still sleep with a few treasured stuffed animals. If my boyfriend of 23 years even SUGGESTED that I get rid of Chace, or if he suggested even putting him into storage, or even up on a shelf and not in my bed, I'd tell him that Chace has been in my life longer than he has, and that he can toss himself out instead. I seriously do not and cannot understand why ANYONE, even someone's partner, feels like they have ANY right to touch someone else's stuff (let alone throw it out!) [edit for syntax reasons]

My mother did that to me. I had a huge teddy bear that my grandfather gave to me before he got Alzheimer's and died. He had already been dizzy and doused it in his old man perfume so it smelled a bit strong like that stuff, but it reminded me of him. My mother threw it away behind my back. When I noticed, it was already too late.

I live in my partner's apartament. She's a widow and has lots of photos of her late husband dotted around. Which is normal. She also has a lot of stuffed toys, Many of which are kitsch. I wouldn't dream of telling her that. They have significance for her, and that's the most important thing.

That's appalling-it reminds me a bit about the Duke of Sussex (Prince Harry) in his awful book Spare. He made a very nasty comment about his father still having his childhood teddy bear, like it was something to be ashamed of. A while back, our new puppy attacked my husband's Teddy bear-poor thing had his foot chewed on, and husband handed him to me saying "can you fix him-dad got him for me the day I was born" Husband is 60, his dad died when he was still a child. It was the most terrifying bit of sewing I've ever done, it was so old it was stuffed with sawdust and really worn. These days, he sits on a shelf out of reach, next to my childhood bear (Pink the Bear, 58 years old)

Bit strange it's not obvious that he throws the bear out knowing it will be gone forever, while she just mixes up pieces that will be put back. So he steals something irreplaceable, she steals time. (And his supposed hobby is putting those pieces back, but that's a weak argument.)

I got a polar bear toy for Christmas when I was 5 and still have him 33 years later. In my younger years I noticed that several men I dated tended to want to deliebrately disrespect, manhandle and otherwise degrade the bear when they saw him in my room and particularly once I mentioned how special he was.. yeah, not joking. So weird. Once I got done dating douchenozzles I met my husband and he produced a polar bear toy from his stuff that he had had his whole life. I patched up his bear's pants a bit and now they usually hang together in our daughter's room. Both are held in high esteem in the home we have made together.

I received my beloved German Shepherd plushie, Chace, when I was 5 as well! (I couldn't spell "Chase" properly....) I'm 42 now and I still have him. I still keep him in my bed (he gets pride of place on the pillow, lol) XD I've been with my bf for 23 years and he has never ONCE mocked, teased, or degraded me for still keeping Chace in my bedroom. He's never even told me to put Chace on a shelf or store him XD Then again, he still has his favorite blanket from his childhood on HIS bed, sooo XD It really gave me a huge grin to read that your husband also has a childhood polar bear! You two were clearly meant to be and I love that your daughter has "inherited" your bears <3 (My bf and I don't have kids, nor shall we ever, so hopefully I can put a codicil into my will that Chace be cremated/buried with me.... XD )

I wish you also took pics of all the Lego carnage and his stupid little rat face when he saw it too!!! What a goddamn GOOBER of a man, and I use the term “man” lightly. Ol’ douchey Dan or whatever the f*k his name is literally felt insecure because you cherished something not him. You LITERALLY chose the bear, and ex can go live inside a bonfire for all I care. Because apparently bear-bear was "raggedy" and "appalling to look at" and "disgusting" and OP's now-ex-bf "hated coming into [her] room and looking at it" (all quotes from ex-bf, according to OP). I'd be like "Oh, are you looking in the mirror again, sweetie?" :3

Ignoring the Bear and the Legos specifically, this woman has every right to break up with this guy. They are not married, and she has zero obligation to him. He unilaterally decided what mattered to him (not liking seeing a teddy bear on occasion) was more important than what mattered to her (the sentimental value of the bear). That is a huge red flag. Now, maybe destroying his Legos was a little vindictive, but honestly, no one in their right mind can blame her after he acted the way he had. Frankly, he should consider himself lucky that the damage he is left with could all be repaired, as all the legos were still present.

I 63m, have urns with all of my past pet's ashes that I fully intend to have buried with me. My knows, understands, and agrees to my wishes in this regard. If anyone had ever tossed any of them, I would be in jail right now. You NEVER toss other people's stuff, most especially sentimental stuff. Just to answer in advance, no, I do not keep them out on display. They are all in a box in a closet awaiting that fateful day.

This is a perfect example of eye for an eye/tit for tat etc. Anything sentimental has more value than anything that has monetary value. I still have my first "plushie", a poor in shape beanbag donkey missing one eye and whom is named Jazz Honkey. That donkey is in fact still my favorite item. My mother never told me who gave it to me. I have a few of her plushes that are true vintage/antique ones including a Lady and Tramp: Lady, a Sher Khan (sp?), and a couple others in storage. I found a childhood favorite in an ALF doll in bad shape but still whole. If any of these things were thrown out by a partner I would absolutely throw the person to the curb and throw out something valuable to them in return. And call the cops, press charges for theft/destruction of property.

Omg, NOPE! I’m 36 & I still have the little plushie (a pink-&-white striped cat named “Milly”) my mum bought for me when I was 13 & I hold her so close, especially when I have to be away from my mum, like when I’m in hospital. Being autistic, I’ve never had anyone try to take my Milly from me, as even my younger niece & nephews know how much she means to me (when I almost died of sepsis in December 2013, the last thing I said to paramedics was to ask for Milly; maybe because I subconsciously knew I was in trouble & wanted a piece of my mum right there). We, as humans, do grow older … but that doesn’t mean we have to remove all personal belongings received in our youth, especially if we have a reason for holding onto them. As for those who can take it upon themselves to disregard those reasons & throw away precious memories?? They should rot in the deepest dumpster for being so heartless! 🧸🙅‍♀️🤨

May you and Milly stay together forever until you go into the clearing at the end of the path... together <3 (If the Rainbow Bridge exists for our beloved pets, which I firmly believe in, our beloved toys/plushies ABSOLUTELY go with us, wherever we might go after we pass!)

It wasn't JUST a bear. This has a recording of her grandmother's voice ffs! I would give everything I own to just hear my grandmother's voice for ten more seconds. That bastard can put his widdle wego's back together. He tried like hell to make sure she never heard her grandmother again PLUS watched her for hours looking for the bear before saying anything! I admire her restraint: I would have made sure some surgeon had to put his junk back together.

glad that fellow is now OP's ex, because he was a huge AH. He had his room, OP had hers. It's no skin off his nose what OP keeps in her bedroom. For him to go in there and take her prized teddy bear and throw it in the trash - well that's when OP should have called the police on her bf! So glad OP was able to find it and clean it up. That fellow - kicked to the curb and rightly so. Don't know that I would have gone for destroying the legos, I like legos. ;-)

I am 65 and have a teddy bear, in fact it's Pookie of Garfield fame, and he is a sentimental thing. He has been all over the world with me. These days he sits in the side pocket of my camera bag. I've had him nigh on forty years (maybe 34?) and he means a lot to me. I empathise with the OP. What he did was reprehensible and uncalled for. He got what he deserved.

OP's anger at her boyfriend's justified. However, destroying his property which he purchased with his own money was wrong and is actually a crime. Her teddy bear has a great sentimental value but cost her no money whereas his LEGO sets cost him money.

Uh, so, bf throwing away OP's property ISN'T a crime? I got news for you, friend. Also, MONETARY VALUE is literally the LEAST important thing when it comes to beloved possessions/collections/etc. OP's ex can buy new Lego. OP cannot buy a new BEAR THAT HAS HER GRANDMA'S VOICE RECORDED INSIDE OF IT. Her grandmother is DEAD. If you cannot fathom that, I pity you deeply.

I saw the pull quote ("My cousin pulled out one of his eyes when he was 10 and he's missing an arm where my brother cut it off") and tbh, realising this was about a teddy bear was a HUGE relief

Bit strange it's not obvious that he throws the bear out knowing it will be gone forever, while she just mixes up pieces that will be put back. So he steals something irreplaceable, she steals time. (And his supposed hobby is putting those pieces back, but that's a weak argument.)

Lego fanatic here-- her reaction is COMPLETELY justified. You just don't mess with other people's stuff especially with that kind of back story/meaning. Any person who would do that to someone they proclaim to love is completely toxic.

Good riddance.

What a complete aßhole. I would have bagged up all the pieces in separate bags and thrown THEM in the trash. An eye for an eye. My husband used to disrespect my stuffed animals, but he learned quickly not to f**k with them.

I have a doll that my grandma made for me when I was young. She made one for every grandchild (well, 21 out of 22, the first grandchild was given up for adoption) I also have the crib my dad made for the doll with the mattress and blanket my mom made. Only my mom is still around. If anyone did that to them, I’d do more than just destroy their Lego sets!
