Meet Mr.D, A Teacher Who Wants To Make His Students’ Lives Amazing
Joe Dombrowski decided to become a teacher after working at a summer camp for terminally ill children. The man kept his promise and currently works as an elementary school teacher in Royal Oak, Michigan. “My philosophy with teaching is that you have to make the educational experience fun and engaging, ” Dombrowski (also known as Mr.D) said. “[I try to] make school a place where kids want to be, not where they have to be.” Mr.D uses improv comedy and other non-traditional teaching methods to ensure that his students are not only learning but having a blast as well.

As a fellow teacher, this is great to see! He's going to be the one they remember in such a positive way. You never forget the teachers who truly cared about you and your education. And, education does not strictly mean school subjects and curriculum.
Sure, this is a very American concept. Sure, not everything in life is about having fun, Sure, education is a privilege and should be taken seriously. Sure, once you leave school it's not all fun and games. But they're young kids. They have time to learn about being serious when it matters. I've had great teachers all through my education (up to a Masters) that made learning engaging and entertaining and just a real pleasure. I've also had teachers that were all about "sit down be quiet only talk when invited to and lets focus on tests and marks and make it all very stressful because your life depends on it". I know which lessons I remember more.
I love it when people say things like young kids can learn about discipline and "being serious when it matters" later on. Anyone who has kids or has worked with kids knows this so way off the mark.
