People Are Hilariously Roasting ‘Target’ Fashion Designers By Taking These Pics Wearing Their Dresses (30 Pics)
The chance that these floral farm dresses that objectively look like the last thing you’d wanna wear are sold out at Targets all over is a high one. And it’s not because people have damaged their fashion sense for good after spending prolonged periods of time in quarantine (although that would be a fair reason), but rather because the #TargetDressChallenge is going viral.
It all started when someone pointed out that a bunch of long dresses at Target look like “people just lost the farm after locusts ate their crops” but in the pandemic world. And this is where it got fun.
People went in for a full pandemic farm, aka Little House On the Prairie, look by posting their pics in the dress while carrying livestock, working the land, and doing other typical farm chores. It soon blew up into a viral trend with entire families getting on board for a much-needed laugh.

you laugh but I'm fat and these dresses give me some advantage :)
My Whole Family Thinks I’ve Completely Lost It (And Maybe I Have), But I Surely Hope This Makes Someone’s Day
To find out more about this new viral challenge, Bored Panda reached out to Bre and Matt Bogert, who joined forces in some of the very best shots submitted to the #TargetDressChallenge. Their humorous pictures have since gone viral, amassing 5.3k reactions, 2.7k shares, and 1k comments on Facebook.
When asked what they thought of the infamous Target dress, Bre said that she first saw the Target dress challenge on one of her farm or chicken-related groups on Facebook. As for the infamous prairie dress, she had seen it in the store. “I did a double-take and thought... WHAT!?”
“Once I saw a husband having participated, I showed my husband, who laughed just as hard as me. His initial reaction had a few eye rolls, but then hilarity ensued,” Bre explained.

I had no problems looking this mean and crazy but Meliyah had a hard time not laughing.
Thanks to Lexi for the photography. She didn't have a target dress so she missed out.

Amazingly, he saw the dress hanging after being washed and came up with the idea himself, no inspiration or alcohol or coercion needed!
When asked how she managed to convince Matt to dress up for the challenge, Bre confessed that “there wasn’t much convincing after my 8- and 10-year-old sons saw the shoots and started egging him on.”
“My almost 10-year-old asked him to do it for his birthday present (we did the shoot on his birthday!) and—off to Target we went! He’s 6’8” tall and 300 pounds—we didn’t think we would find a dress, and that XXL was a little stretchy and it fit like a glove,” Bre laughed.
The dress was supposed to be floor-length, but “as you see, a little knee was shown,” she added.

From My Husband Matt, “We Have Been Seeing These Funny Target Dress Challenge Shoots, And She Gave Me That Look
At first I laughed when she and our boys suggested it, then I was like, ‘You know what!? The world has seen so much sadness and really bad stuff this year, my family has suffered some serious losses this year, it will make my boys laugh and maybe someone else. Plus, I love using our little farm for the shoot and making my photographer wife smile, you know? And, the boys are going to learn to make pillows out of the dress fabric when we are done—we all win. If you can make someone laugh or smile, why not!?’”
The couple said that just like for many of us, their past year has seen some hard times, less laughter, and a lot of social discontinuity. “My husband’s family had been through a rough time recently with losing loved ones and once we realized how much joy this was bringing and light-hearted fun, the deal was sealed.”
And since Bre and Matt live on a farm with goats, chickens, rabbits, and hounds, half of the job had been done already. Plus, Bre is a professional photographer who runs her website Bre Bogert Photography. “We didn’t need a single 'prop' (except the dress!)—It was a given…”

Awww! That looks like a pretty big chicken. Or perhaps a small girl.
Did you make her a custom bonnet!❤️ Laura Ingalls Wilder would approve
Where’d they get the matching bonnet? Please tell me Target isn’t selling those too?
Laura! Laura! where have you been? Hallmark Drama took you off afternoons!
Well that’s beautiful you could be on the front cover of her add maybe Land O Lakes butter
I love Easter egger chickens!!! We have lots of them and they are so fluffy!!!
Oh isn't she just beautiful! She's like a Holly Hobbie doll. That dress really looks great on her!
So Target was selling those ugly old-time dresses, AND they came with a BONNET? Seriously?
This outfit is similar to one that my mother made for me for Halloween, complete with sunbonnet. My costume was Laura Ingalls from the Little House books. The print is pretty close, too. I still have the sunbonnet.

Good Bye '20, Fling That Sh*t Behind You
As for the feedback, besides the initial shock and hysterical laughter of family and friends, the feedback has been awesome.
“We thought it would reach a few folks outside our chicken and farm groups, but not like this! We have had some very complimentary messages about my adorable husband (he’s taken, ladies, sorry!), but the best messages have been ones from folks who appreciate the humor in these isolating times.”
It’s Day 329 Of The Great Plague. The Target Mercantile Has Blessed Us With New Fabrics To Enhance Our Pandemic Fashion
I feel Margaret got a little bit risky in her decision to flaunt that racy lace seam. After all we are modest women out on the farmstead. Unwanted stares from the menfolk is unholy.
Supplies were getting scarce. We needed to venture out for food. Trudging uphill, both ways in the snow as our ancestors once did. Margaret was able to keep us safe with her trusty 22 and her deadeye for shots.
We were able to make dinner from an elegant goose that will feed the kin for a fortnight. We shall milk the goats (oops they’re boys) and churn some butter and feast.
Lastly our local gymnasium allowed us to get some physical fitness in to keep up our health and our spirits.

The Two Aught Two Aught Year Of Our Lord Hath Vexed Me
I am vexed, I say. The earth has been salted, the chickens refuse to lay. Donkeys born without a tail and other such ominous signs. But Providence has left me my solitary sister in poultry. And we stubbornly refuse to yield. So let the year two aught two one breathe it’s impotent fire. I stand or squat ready.

I don’t reckon I’m ready to say goodbye, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a hankering for some fresh bacon. These grits ain’t cutting it, and dine-in just ain’t an option round these parts anymore.
Many messages and comments that Bre and Matt received were from people who hadn’t laughed this hard since the pandemic started. "Some said that this was something they needed to see on a particularly hard day, and just thanking us for sharing some joy."
And this wholesome feedback is what makes a challenge like this all worth it for Bre and Matt. “My husband and I both agree if we can make anyone’s day brighter (even if it’s him in a dress with our chickens or goats as the cause), then it’s a great day.”

In fact, some people liked the model, aka Matt, so much that the couple even had some others asking if he’s single. “Other messages were from folks wanting to buy the dress (we told them we are making it into pillows to always remember this shoot!), and some other chicken breed-related questions.” Bre added that "there was one guy who even asked what kind of dog our goat was.”

Loggin'
There’s something about the Target dress challenge which makes it particularly humorous in these gloomy times. “The meme we saw circulating about the locusts and losing the farm made us laugh so hard. When we saw those dresses in person, we HAD TO try.”
Bre said that “seeing the men and women and kids dress in these dresses without a care in the world, hamming it up for the cameras, having fun with it—THAT is funny. Honest hilarity.” In fact, Bre, who’s a pro photographer, confessed that “75% of the shots I took were shaky because my boys and I were laughing so hard.”

I thought the red headed gal was pretty even in the ugly dress. She actually made it look good.
Load More Replies...Well. I certainly have not seen everyone parading down the street in them. In fact, I haven’t seen anyone parading down the street in them. They must’ve been bought as joke gifts, or for challenges like these. I just hope Target doesn’t think they’re a legitimate hit, and go out and buy more. Though, if they mark them down to a dollar a piece, I’d but a few to cut up into cleaning rags or use for dog bedding.

if the pandemic has done anything it has nurtured unbridled fun from being isolated from the 'norm', allowing imagination to run wild. it encouraged the museum bum challenge, the famous art challenge, etc. it has created fun for ppl like me who have to stay isolated for safety. however, these dresses did bring back memories of the trend in late 70s of denim skirts w/lacey cotton slips showing underneath...anyone else remember those?
Good lord those are some fugly dresses that should never see the light of day. I kind of want it.
It does have that appeal! Lol! I worked there a wks as a seasonal employee & we literally all made fun of these dresses but at least a few girls bought them. They said they wanted to feel like Pollyanna & Anne of Green Gables! Lol!

Do not feel bad because you follow a conviction of the heart. But come on.....there were some amusing pictures and that particular style is not on the catwalk of fashion. I think it is a modest dress but a throw back to another time, perhaps when life was not to grim (maybe not) and stressful.

It seems that Target designers have all been influenced by Little House On The Prairie

Nothing's wrong with you. Just like, what you like. :)

I think it’s cool. But I have a confession, I have always liked the prairie dress 👗
And what's wrong with them? Different people wear different fashion styles. It seems like a normal dress inspired by the past, nothing more nothing less. I don't like the 'crop top fashion' or the 'holes in trousers fashion' but I don't shame it online just because it seems ridiculous and impractical to me. If anything, people in the past knew how to dress and didn't need a new dress every few months because the quality is s**t (nowadays).
Shame on all of you for making fun of these dresses. Many good Amish women in the Midwest actually dress like that. Also wonderful Pentecostal women. Is Covid affecting your thinking?
I agree about the pre-made holey trousers, crop tops... but it would be amusing to see those worn ironically, by the models here. I'm not sure this was meant to shame anyone's choice, but more the contrasting quality of knockoff factory-made clothing offered against a backdrop of genuine history and part of our culture... the irony of these lovely men, posing adorably with animals .. the expressions (like a few family members I have actually).. the sweetness of the children...the juxtaposition of this amidst a very serious pandemic and political unrest that has left mostly everyone unhappy.. these are sweet and have made folks smile.. At least that is how I understand it, and I have worn dresses like these. I hope I'm not being untoward, but I have especially found humor in silliness about my own traits and choices (note the witch on the broomstick), that might have otherwise offended me. Intention, I think, can change context. I hope you are ok though. <3 I send you love.

Where are (the majority of) these ppl getting the BONNETS from? Are those available at target, too? Or, do they come WITH the dresses? This city girl needs to know!
Nope, from what I've seen they're sold separately. Most likely at costume shops, "Country" stores (like where I got mine) & Granges (livestock feed stores). Us farmers tend to pick up stuff like this wherever we come across it cheap, just because it's part of the "lifestyle". Some of these aren't really from Target, but are similar enough for this purpose.
Load More Replies...Yeah, their men’s fashion has taken a nosedive into terrible as well. Used to have pretty decent clothing, but it’s been awful for a few years now.
Thought I could find my husband a nice dress shirt or at least a nice casual shirt with long sleeves. "Dressiest" thing Target had was polo shirts! Mostly had sports wear for men. Sad 😒
Load More Replies...Wow things have become far worse than what I could have imagined. Now that I have been able to sneak away from the community under lockdown. I can't begin to count the days that I have lost to this fight. But I have been here since the fall of 2019 as for on the records march 15 2020. I new ground patrol told me to come asap to the rec room for a reason and I can see why now. From here I am just waiting for the missiles to drop as we go up like paint balls to missed targets.
I love this! It's a fun way to make the most of a pandemic lockdown. Laughter is the best medicine.
I am an avid Target shopper and these Target dresses pics made me laugh so hard my ribs hurt. Great job and the men look mighty classy also! Great humor!
Little House on the prairie vibes. Seriously though. I don't buy Target clothing --I find it's no better quality than Walmart and twice the price.
This is funny but seriously - what is up w/ Target's clothing? They might as well just stick to underwear and socks if this is the outcome.
I remember when they first came out, I thought, who the hell is going to wear these? Now I know! I'm glad these people wore these so well, made my day.
I'm actually offended Tatget would put something so out of touch to today's woman on the market.
The polygamous ladies in Utah were happy to get a break from sewing or trolling the thrift stores.
If I bought me a target dress, I'd have to buy a barn and chicken a-swell.
Got me laughing today, even with a bad cold. "Climbed a big hill." LOL!!
50 years later when our descendants asked their grandparents what happened in 2019 pandemic, just show them these photos in monochrome or sephia filter lol
Funny that almost every pic had the same 2 dresses, the orange & blue ones 😂
Now you've just encouraged them to keep selling ugly clothes! I swear, they've had the WORST buyers for years!
Holly Hobbie returns...on Hulu.... or maybe from the 70's to haunt us.
Did Target produce these dresses in order to be mocked? GREAT brand recognition!
Makes me wish I’d bought one of those dresses when I saw them. This was such a good laugh, and they sold so many…. Maybe they will bring back the dresses 😆
These dresses were really sized oddly, too. I have the least pioneer-timey one, which was a long, charcoal color short sleeved with a normal scoop neck with minimal matching trim, a button down front and tieback to cinch the waist. It was sized like, 4 sizes too big, so I was able to actually find my size... Anyway, it really isn't bad, but only looks ok on me because I have a huge butt/hips and bust (I'm a 36F with 38 inch hips and like, a 27" waist ) and literally nothing but stretch material fits me--except for this one weird target dress..I've not been surgically altered...just weird genes from my varied ethnicities, so let this be a warning to anyone who wants to shell out big $ for painful enhancements to have an exaggerated hourglass. I have one, can never find ANYTHING normal to wear, everything comes off as trashy, too sexy or revealing and until this weird trend came into popular fashion, it's been nothing but a major PiA and fertile breeding ground for a dysmorphia&an E.Dis
I went to Target and saw these "attractive" clothing options and was like nope, and walked out. Fugly as hell. When did fashion become a competition as to which designer could create the ugliest new styles? 😡
I?? Really like these though??? I mean I can see how some people might not like them, but personally I think I could pull it off, idk
I just pointed these dresses out to my husband last week! They aren't totally hideous but they aren't flattering for most people. I agree with another poster who said the lady with the red hair (#23) looked nice in her dress.
Why do all the target dresses look like they came out of an 1890 prairie homestead
ohmygosh i love all these so much,, i need more challenges like this ~ the good spirit of all of these, also i actually really love the dress :D why people think they're ugly :(( i actually want one now xDDD my cousin loves little house on the prairie, i think she'd be thrilled to have one too ~
At least it gave people something fun to do. Ugly dress, but amazing memories.
I have no idea about the quality of those dresses (no Target here) but I must admit that I like the look a lot. I am not sure if I would wear them to work in the office but at home? Definitely!
Target's not the only one. I was in Nordstroms yesterday and that was the prevalent fashion. I felt like I'd been transported back to 1973. Ok, I do kind of like them, cuter than 99% of what else I see and certainly more comfy than a dress that may or may not come down to your belly button!
They all look like they belong on "Little House on the Prairie". Target was definitely going for the retro vibe.
These look like a redo of the vintage Gunne Sax dresses from the 1970's and 80's.
Thank you everyone it made my day and had some good laughs! I needed it thank you,
I'd love to cut them for recycling in my handsewn quilts. The floral patterns and the cotton fabric are optimal.
I like them, they are retro-styled. Should everyone like latest fashion with holes in their jeans?
these wonderful people have 'singlehandedly' made america great again. THANK YOU !!
I could see this if "Little House on the Prairie" were still on, but now? Not getting their reasons for these.
I think they are pretty. lol. Worn seriously I think they are kinda like 1970's Gunne Sax dresses. Those were so expensive and popular then.
Don’t let the Hutterite and Mennonite ladies find out, the hangers will be bare Sunday after church. Amish ladies will be angry, they have to sew their own dresses!
Don’t let word get out to the Hutterite and Mennonite ladies, hangers will be bare Sunday after church. Amish ladies will be furious because they have to see their own cloths!!
Gotta wonder why? What is up with Target? But these were hilarious photos.
Love the target dress photo's. Anything to get bored panda off of trump. It almost seems like your all dems over there.
is it one Target near Amish country and the Ozarks? No city people wearing these
Please.... the target market is women in the suburbs for this s**t.... Target does high end knock offs ... haute couture.... this shits on the runway. The Amish have a uniform and I’ll assume in the Ozarks they wear jeans and camo.
Load More Replies...You know what's pathetic about this? These dresses are nice. The people wearing them are the problem because they have no fashion sense. These dresses are quite popular in the UK and Europe, where people have heard of tights and heels.
Person or persons who came up with these ghastly Target®️ dresses should be fired. LOL
I’m glad it’s now obvious how insanely ugly target clothes are. Like how the hell are people finding things there?! It’s all like either grandma stuff or boring boxy monochromatic stuff.
I guess the Amish/Mormon factions now have controlling interest in Target.
Amish and Mennonite women would not be caught dead in these, nor would the polygamists
Load More Replies...These were all well done and in the sprite of the segment. Except the men wearing them. I don't think the won that got the votes should have won. The pictures under it should have won.
Now, this article’s pictures show these dresses on a variety of shapes and sizes, including children, and they do not look good on any of them! Even those who tried to spiff them up with good accessories were fighting a losing battle. Who TF came up with these godawful “Grapes of Wrath” style dresses? Or were they made for a giant production of “Oklahoma”—-set in the Depression instead of turn of the 20th Century—-that got canceled or something? And who TF at Target looked at them and said to themself “Now these are beautiful and will be so popular you’re going to see them on everyone!” I can’t decide if the buyer was on drugs or off their meds.
The realisation that not everybody shares you fashion style must have been hard huh? Why do you have the need to shame? If you don't like it, just don't buy it. I think that holes in trousers are a ridiculous design with no actual practicality. Same for crop tops. Same for mini-skirts. So I just don't buy them but I also don't judge people who wear those.
Load More Replies...Very disappointed to see Bored Panda promote this challenge. These modest-style dresses are worn by women in the Amish and Mennonite groups. This is hate speech. Bullying. Shameless ridicule. Why don’t you post the crap you’re wearing right now that you bought at Target?
And not only by those women. I know many people who would like this dress. Why do we need to shame someone else's taste in fashion just because it is not the 'fashion standard' that you're sUpPossEd tO WeAr. Not everyone enjoys showing off their bra and knickers to everyone in their close surroundings...
