I've created a collection of dresses inspired by children's books. All the books were thrifted, and they've now been given a second lease on life as pieces of wearable art.

I made these for a major art competition in Grand Rapids, MI called Artprize, which is running now through October 1st.

My work is on display at the JW Marriott.

The absolute best use of a Disney book! Have you ever tried to read one aloud to your kid? Worst writing ever.

While these are all very artistic, I have very mixed feelings about the destruction of so many books.

Older books, esp. paperbacks, often end up in trash or recycling due to aging of the paper or years of wear and tear. Some libraries will not accept them as donations if they are too worn or yellowed. Since the artist sourced them from thrift shops, they were likely already read & enjoyed. Here they have been "recycled" in a creative way.

One of my favorite books. I looked high and low to find one for great nephews...now I know why they are so hard to find

I like that the dress matches the tone and look of the book illustrations.

I included the colors of the transgender flag, and chose a beautiful trans woman as my model to show I’m capable of respecting the artwork that is Harry Potter, without agreeing with J. K. Rowling.

I think one of my favorite things about JK Rowling is that pretty much every character in her books would absolutely fight her if they met her in real life. How someone that selfish and narrow-minded can write such positive and supportive characters is beyond me.
