People definitely like mashups and crossovers. To prove this, just look at the list of the highest-grossing films of all time - in the top five, two places are occupied by probably the biggest crossovers that cinema has ever known. And this is certainly not the limit.

The human mind is very flexible and creative. It constantly comes up with various combinations that cannot exist in principle. What if the T-rex attacks an elephant? If Harry Potter goes to Middle-earth and finds the Ring of Power? If Michael Jordan and LeBron James go head-to-head in Space Jam? What if Starbucks cups weren't labeled with customer names, but with their phone numbers?

There can be a huge number of such options and often, talented people work at the intersection of these realities, creating new concepts for our joy. One of such people is Mostafa Azzam, a 28-year-old graphic designer from Dumyat, Egypt, who created a whole cycle of twisted logos, imagining how the emblems of global brands would look in the style of other brands' logos.

Bored Panda has compiled a selection of the most interesting and original mashups created by Mostafa for you, and also contacted the artist, asking him to tell us more about his work and sources of inspiration. So feel free to scroll to the very end, enjoy the witty design twists, and we'll also talk about Mostafa Azzam's artwork together with the artist himself.

"It all happened when I was studying the famous brands' logos," Mostafa says in an interview with Bored Panda. "I was just trying to understand how these colors, fonts, and styles combined are carved in our consciousness more than we can imagine. For example, if we choose the Mcdonald’s logo, we can definitely recognize the brand easily just by adding the exact tone of the yellow and the red they are using, and this was mind-blowing for me when I first tried it.

Then I said to myself: 'Why not take as many logos as I can and see if it still works, and surprisingly it did!'"

"It took me about 3 hours on the first album, and a little thinking and searching for the elements of each brand and their fonts and colors. I was also trying as much as I could to find mutual letters between every two brands combined," explains the artist.

"The funny story behind these logos is that I was just trying to blend famous brands' logos together to see the outcome, and how it would affect my brain and also my eyes. So when I made the first 10 logos and decided to share them, I was worried about how people would react to them, and to be honest, I was surprised that these logos went viral on social media, so I tried to make more of them because people really liked it."

"There were a variety of reactions. Some people really liked it and were inspired by it, and some others found it disturbing and were annoyed because 'it hurt their eyes' as they said," Mostafa tells us about people's perception. "The most interesting reaction was from a LinkedIn member who tried to connect with me and asked for my permission to use these logos in a study he made."

Because you got to refresh your memory and reboot your phone for it work fresh!

"My favorite logo among the ones I created (and that’s because it makes so much sense to me) is the Netflix + Nutella one. The thing about these two logos is that they are related to the entertainment field somehow," the designer added. "Some people commented that they really enjoy these two together on movie night or something similar, and it would make a great collaboration opportunity between these two brands."

"I really love to go out of the box and give myself and my followers something different," Mostafa talks more about his artwork and experience. "You know there are great designers and artists in the world with great skills and experience, so for me, it was hard to stand out from the crowd if I took the easy route that many others do, especially if you didn’t study graphics at all, never did an online course, or had a certificate related to graphics and the art field. All I had was some YouTube tutorials and, of course, my laptop and many years of failures, experience, and criticism. Next and always, I'll try my best to give people something different, because for me normal is just boring."

Mostafa has a B.A. in business administration and design and creates his artworks in a not-so-usual way as most designers do. "I must clarify that I'm not passionate about normal stuff in life, even in my designing process," he admits. "Most of the time, I create out of pain. Sometimes I create out of an experience. Creativity requires time, and this is the main obstacle for any creative artist who is trying to survive in the working industry, because you need time and space to come up with new ideas."

"It's really challenging for me to survive in this fast world because for me, it’s all about giving myself the time needed to figure out something different. For me, graphic design is more than just a tool, it’s more of a message," Mostafa says about his career. "You should think many times of how you could deliver your idea in the simplest possible way, though being smart and creative."

"For the last two years, I tried to work in Dubai with different companies but, unfortunately, I didn’t cope with the systematic way of the industry world. This was just like killing my brain and my thoughts slowly, it was just like you are turning your creative process of thinking and expressing into robot-like behavior. The industrial world requires fast thinking and application, and that is not me. I need time and silence as I mentioned before to be able to think and produce something which is outside the box."

"I have uncommon thoughts and ideas in my mind and for me, graphic design is the thing I can use to express myself, it’s my gate to the outer world and for my brain to say things I can barely express," explains Mostafa Azzam. And like many artists, he has his own inspiration sources and role models, if it's even possible to say so in the world of art.

"There is more than one artist who really inspired me. One of them is the great Salvador Dalí, who was a Spanish Surrealist painter and printmaker known for exploring subconscious imagery. And the other one is also a great painter, Vincent van Gogh."

Well, with such sources of inspiration and with such talent and tenacity, we are sure that Mostafa will definitely become a great success and continue to create spectacular artworks that we will continue to admire.
