It is impossible never to let your guard down, but for some violent scum, a moment is all it takes to act out their filthy desires. When 21-year-old student Jaila Gladden left her apartment in Carrollton, Georgia to Kroger’s grocery store, she didn’t think that evening would change her life forever. A man in the parking lot reportedly asked her for a lighter. Jaila responded she didn’t have one, but the guy kept following her. Once at her car, she felt a knife pressed against her.

They both got in the car. The alleged attacker turned to Jaila and asked if she knew how to get to Atlanta, about 50 miles away. After some time, the man parked the car behind an abandoned church. Gladden claimed it was then he demanded her to take off her clothes. She pleaded with him, but he said there was “no purpose in crying.” Gladden said he then raped her inside the car.

After the sexual assault, they continued driving. When the man asked for directions to a gas station, Jaila had a genius idea. She said she needed her phone to google the locations, and it was enough to convince the guy to give it back. Quickly, she shared her location with her boyfriend, Tamir Bryant.

“It was the most logical thing to do,” she said. “Kid napped,” she texted after Bryant asked why she was in Atlanta. The kidnapper hadn’t realized she was searching out for help while typing. Tamir rushed to the local police station which notified the Atlanta Police Department.

During that time, a police officer in Atlanta saw a car matching the description in a parking lot. Its engine was running, and the lights were turned off. Once the man spotted the officer, he turned the lights on and sped toward the exit, colliding with four cars and the parked patrol car. The kidnapper was later arrested and charged with aggravated assault, sexual abuse, aggravated sodomy, kidnapping and abduction, and aggravated assault against a police officer. He is currently awaiting trial. Thanks to her fast thinking, Gladden saved herself with her phone.

It’s sad that this happens, but the fact she managed to escape is incredible. Let’s hope more people who get kidnapped are able to escape also.

So glad her boyfriend took that seriously. Bless her heart. Even though she was raped and is going to have to recover from and deal with that for the rest of her life, at least she's alive and I'm sure she is very grateful for that. I can't imagine what that poor woman went through. She is a SURVIVOR!

And people wonder why I'm afraid to go outside.I can't even walk to the shops five minutes away from my house without clutching a phone to my chest and going through self defence methods...Why do people think doing stuff like this is okay?

Sarah White, whenever I go to a store, or out for a cup of coffee, I make it a point to walk by/past every single camera on our main street. We have "hidden camera's" ( that is, everyone knows where they are) in our main park, and there too, I make a point to be in close range of them.

She was very brave and also very, very lucky. With all those messages, the guy still not suspect anything when she supposedly should just be typing "gas station" on Google Maps. She took a huge risk, but thankfully it paid out and she was saved. After that, I think I'll probably think up some code word I can say or text to my family and friends more easily in case something like this happens... And I know there's no way she could predict what was going to happen, but if you can tell someone is following you, go back inside the store, or find a store and go in, just don't go to your car or house... they can easily subdue you while you're getting in yourself and force you to let them in.

Amazing young woman to keep her cool and figure out a way to safety. Boyfriend deserves major props for believing her immediately. I'm so sorry they didn't get him before he raped her, but hopefully, she will get all the help she needs.

This is one brave, courageous, fast thinking smart women. I am really amazed by her calmness and fast thinking. I admire her. One of my greatest fears in life is being raped. I am so terrified of being raped I doubt I would be so calm like her and be able to think of a way out. I always said I would rather the person kills me than to rape me. I will put up a fight that will result in him either letting me go or killing me. I think death would be better than living with the emotional scars and trauma of being raped. I was in a relationship for many years where I was emotionally black mailed by my ex-bf to have sex. Every time he would get on top of me I would feel like I was dying, suffocating and I hated myself and it was hurting so much emotional I would cry for hours . I was stupid enough to stay in that relationship for 5 years. That's one of the reasons I say I would rather be killed than to have someone rape me. I don't think I am strong enough to survive the trauma.

It also gives the victim ideas how to defend themselves too, though... But then again, either for the criminal and for the victim, it depends on the situation. Even without this story, I think most criminals would not let you get your hands on any phone or whatever means of communication.

Believe me if you felt the knife near your skin you would never want to provoke the attacker to stab you. Because you know that you can die from this single stab. I was in such situation once when I was a child (maybe 13 years old). A drunk man put a knife to my torso and I had to follow him. When I saw a man passing by I wasn't able to call him for help because of fear for my life. Risk was too high. All I was able to do was to stare at him and blink with my eyes trying to catch his attention.
