Someone Drops Their iPhone While Going 83 Miles Per Hour On A Roller Coaster And This Guy Catches It

Ninjas with reflexes quick as lightning live among us. Well, sort of. New Zealander Samuel Kempf proved to all of us that the human body is amazing. When he was on a roller coaster in Barcelona, Spain, he saw a falling iPhone and he grabbed it as it was hurtling through the air.

Samuel uploaded the video on YouTube and got more than 1.71 million views in less than two days! That’s way more than I could count to. Also, more than 580 people commented on the video, most of them praising the man for his superhuman feat of dexterity.

“I was in Spain at Port Aventura on [the] Shambhala ride and saw the person a few rows ahead drop their iPhone X. Long story short I caught it. This roller coaster is moving at over 130km/h… was once Europe’s tallest and fastest coaster.. only recently beaten,” Samuel wrote in the description beneath his YouTube video.

He was visiting Spain as a representative of New Zealand in the Fistballing World Championship. Samuel told the media that while on the Shambhala ride he saw how a man dropped their iPhone into the bottom of their car, and joked out loud that they should get ready to catch the smartphone.

“The ride started and I totally forgot about it because I was just in the moment ’cause it was such a good ride and then after the first drop we rose up and I just saw the phone drift across my view so I reached out and managed to catch it,” the man told Stuff New Zealand.

Samuel returned the phone to the person who dropped it in the first place who rewarded the firstballer by buying him the video of the roller coaster ride.

However, Samuel later lost his own Apple Watch as it flew off his hand while on a different ride. A devastating day for Apple products, to be sure. Perhaps there’s another ninja out there who caught Samuel’s watch? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

The Shambhala roller coaster in Port Aventura park in Spain is 78 meters tall (that’s 256 feet for all of you using the Imperial system), and the ride goes as fast as 134km/h (83mph). It was the champion ride in Europe until the Hyperion opened at Energylandia in Poland last summer. All I can say is that we hope that Samuel gets his watch back and that there are plenty of fistballers riding roller coasters!

I love the person saying it was staged.... like who the actual hell would just toss their phone off a roller coaster hoping their buddy catches it????

OMG, I laughed so hard. Someone thinks it was staged. Some people’s view of reality is, well, more than 2 standard deviations away from the average.

I'm glad it didn't smack someone in the head... THAT would be deadly. But yeah that guy is awesome

Great catch, but I hate the idiot who thought it would be a cool idea to video his ride but ended up just putting other riders in danger. Like thousands of other idiots every year who try to do the same thing, he's too dumb to realize it's tough to hold on to a phone on a ride that reaches more than 80mph and pushes nearly 4gs.

This is true. And even though I knew it didn't happen or else the article would have mentioned it, I kept expecting the guy who caught it to drop it again. He was not holding on to that thing nearly carefully enough.
