Spiky Shower Curtains Kicks You Out After 4 Minutes To Save Water

Textile-based installation artist and educator Elisabeth Buecher has invented a clever way to conserve water. Titled “My Shower is a Green Warrior,” Buecher’s shower curtain turns spiky after four minutes of bathing, “taking over the space and discouraging long water-wasting showers.”

“These curtains are not really for marketing but aim at provoking a debate around water issues,” Buecher told Mochi. “If you don’t want to get trapped you have to get out before it does and stop damaging the environment.”

The curtains fill with air, and the project is only a concept. They were displayed at the 2009 Milan Furniture Fair.

You can shower normally for 4 minutes

But don’t idle…

Because after four minutes the spikes suddenly inflate!

You’re forced out of the shower

Water is saved and mother nature is happy!

Well.. You can shower for 4 minutes if you have hair like that (Silky and extremely short) Women with long curly hair would need at least 20 minutes to take a shower (says a woman with long curly hair)

that's exactly what i was thinking ... and it'd be a pain to keep that thing clean esp if you have well water

Did no one actually READ the article? They aren't for marketing. They're an art project designed to initiate a discussion on water usage.

Seems a smart idea but not usable! Who wants something as freak as this in his/her bathroom?

And all these commenters missed the point. As stated it's not actually for use but more aimed at sparking a discussion and debate around WATER CONSERVATION

I might have to design a shower/bath system like a spa to have my toasty warm showers. Yes, with long hair have to wash my hair every 3 to 4 days when its not in braids. Cool Idea though!

I can't use this shower curtain. Oh my god. How can we wash ourselves properly in 4 mins? I can't do that.

Stupid nonsense. Those spikes are not nice, they are disturbing, they will be very soon dirty and will be hard to clean them out. If you want to chuck the people out from bath after 4 minutes using why it automatically does not stop warm water? 99% of people will be out in a second. Somebody is thinking with his a*s again....

They had a better water-saving idea staring them right in the face, and they completely missed it: after four minutes, a guy bursts into your shower and starts taking photos.

The idea is sound but not the application. I need 20 minutes to do everything in the shower, shave, wash, hair, everything takes about 15-20 minutes. I like to believe the spikes would just amuse me, though.

I found this on a tumblr post that got uploaded on pinterest, and honestly, I can't believe I actually looked this up. And being here feels like what I would imagine a frozen piece of internet, untouched for 2 years. If anyone finds this comment, the year is 2017. It is the 17th of December, and in my time zone it is 5:29 pm. Obviously this post was made in 2015, before so many things have gone wrong. Politics have been turned into a war zone. Stupidity is a common thing now, so please, save yourselves.

The idea is great an all but seems like it could not only make showers really stressful but make them kind of dangerous... catch you off guard and cause you to slip and fall... *shrug* maybe just set a timer lol...

And obviously these inflatable spikes are made out of plastic!!! How about just being a conscious, disciplined human being that does not need silly gimmicks to do something as simple as taking a shower?

But most of the drinking water waste does not come from long showers (it adds to it, sure, and bathers even more).. Most of the water reserves goes to agriculture, so it's the wasted food, and excessive meat consumption that take the biggest part of the problem. But sure, it wouldn't hurt to shower less and/or take shorter showers (no one needs 20 min of non stop water running, even with long hair, it just takes improved shower routines).

What if the user is kicked out without turning off the shower? You can't even go into the shower to stop the water flow.

Is it better to consume the electric energy needed to inflate those spikes better than the water? Or having that huge box in the toilet? how about just using one of this ( I already use it to brush my teeth) Or just count a couple songs if you listen to music...http://csimg.mercama...ina-manzana.jpg...such a useless invention...

As a male with an extremley large penis, I would like to make you fully aware of the timescale required to properly clean oneself.... The shaft - 20-22 mins. Starting from the base, working upwards. Excessive girth requires full clean and lotion. The End - 16mins. Tricky. Very sensitive and requires more attention than said shaft The S*****m - 18mins. The complexity of the ball sack is hard to describe. Starting like an old mans neck and fast becoming a hippos eye on contact with water, this is the trickiest part. Add 31mins for shaving of said parts. There you go. This really does make a mockery of your "4 min shower" does it not. Micky
