If you're impressed by this you should really also check some others out, like maybe the Australian Bird Eating Spider (aka Barking or Whistling Spiders - Tarantulas), Mouse Spider, Funnelweb, or Trapdoor. They're spiders worthy of respect. Another little horror is the White Tip - tiny little things that look a little bit like jumping spiders (jumping spiders I think are probably in pretty much every country - they're the cutest little creature around - they're so small, and somehow curious, and they'll fully check you out with their two tiny-big shiny, astonished eyes and even turn their little heads while watching you as they jump on you like a tiny grasshopper, and they seem to really like us because you'll think it's wandered off and you leave then a couple hours later there it is on your shirt or your sleeve just hanging out, turning this way and that, looking around, still completely amazed and in awe, like f*****g "Duuude, maaan. Fucken whoooah."). White tips are kinda ugly and a bit creepy how they move (look a bit crab-like), but you couldn't imagine they could hurt you, and they can't really, but (going off what I was given to believe years ago when what was happening was still a bit of a mystery) while some people might get bitten (which is pretty rare anyway) and barely ever notice, they sometimes have some kind of bacteria on their fangs that cause some people (not all) an ulcer that just never really heals. The Orb Spider, aka Box Weaver, I think is common on other continents, too. They'll sit in their web, spun in a tree or bush. Just leave them alone and they're no problem. But, their webs look really cool - often huge, and pretty intricate 3D structures, sometimes with a golden sheen. And I just remembered, because Orb spider webs I think are kind of tough, when I was a kid, like maybe 11 or 12, walking through the park late one summer night (spiders tend to only really come out during summer, and then you're usually just avoiding trees altogether coz you know you'll get a face full of web) I was with a friend and my brother (I guess my brother was about 13; friends I suppose were all like 15/16/17) near my old home heading to our mate's place and we walk close to the tree line (gum trees, smooth, kinda tall), and we all walk through a web that was strung wide from the trunk of one tree to the ground. Stuck to our legs and it fully pulled the hairs trying to get it off, like duct tape. But don't know what kind of spider that might have been, really. Huntsman. They're pretty good to have around. They usually sit up in a corner and don't move around much until they're left alone. They're very timid and will run like f**k if you bother them. They don't really make web. They eat roaches and things. They almost never bite, and when they do it might make you feel a little bit ill for a while but it won't really hurt you. And they tend to find their way outside if they get disturbed too much, anyway. So, if it really bothers you that much, you just pick it up on a broom and take it outside or kind of harass it a little and it'll take itself outside. But be careful with them or you'll make them lose a leg, then you'll feel like a prick and start having insidious thoughts about fuzzy legged spider revenge. You get used to them pretty quickly. They even seem almost sweet-natured after a while. Until you stare into their rows of blank little black eyes and let yourself think spider thoughts: in the distant background a constant, droning, clicking, buzzing humm, like electricity deep in the darkest void. A sleepy vigilance, seeing everything at once yet knowing nothing that doesn't move. A blank mind reaching out in every direction like slender fingers, just sitting, waiting, barely even there but for a perpetual stare, until you feel sharp and alert and can bite into some other thing and smother until it becomes rigid and its heart races, then bundle it up and drink its insides, and that's all it'll ever care about. Aw, and when they have babies... They'll sometimes carry the egg-sac around, and when they hatch they all climb up on her back, but if she is disturbed they'll all run then you'll have a couple hundred tiny huntsmans running through the room, and probably a few larger pets showing up a little later on. I don't know how many times I've put my hand on one and felt it's soft, squishy, furry, leathery abdomen for a moment before I realised what my hand was on, but never gotten anything worse than heebie jeebies and a shiver shooting up my spine, doing the fuhketsa spider dance. My mate used to pick them up, but he'd pick up any spider to stick them in an arena and make them fight, so these were nothing to him. My mum was poking around the cemetery after visiting nan and pop's grave one day. She saw a bit of bark hanging off a tree and decided to pull it away for some reason. There was a huntsman underneath that she said was as big as a dinner plate, measuring from toe to toe. She took out her camera and took some shots, then went home and did some paintings of it. This here is just a baby one, even though she's a fully grown female. (The females are always bigger than the males.)

Even I know by now that it's a completely harmless huntsman and I haven't been even near Australia, just reading BP.
