On Monday, August 21, 2017, millions of people were staring at the same thing through doofy glasses, as they tried to catch a glimpse of the solar eclipse. Not only that, they also immortalized the awe-inspiring moment in photos, and Bored Panda has collected the best of them in case you missed the phenomenon or can't get enough of it.
A total solar eclipse covered a narrow portion of the United States from Salem, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina. And a partial one was visible across the entire continent of North America, as well as in parts of South America, Africa, and Europe. This was the first time since 1918 when North America experienced the path of totality from coast to coast.

People who say disparaging remarks are just JEALOUS, period! This photo was well planned in advance & executed perfectly. BRAVO to a tremendous job Andrew Studer!
Why is everyone calling this photo fake or photoshoped? I'm starting to believe that I'm not really real now lol Give this person props or move on.. Such haters smh
Here we go with the fake photoshoped comments again, seems like every photo now smh. Is the universe even real to you people? Are we really humans? or aliens having a human experience? ijs lol 😂😂😂😂

Andrew, probably the most PERFECTLY staged photo of the eclipse I've seen! Amazing!
This is the most dramatic photograph of the eclipse that i have seen: congratulations.
So I like the picture. But you weren't in the slightest perturbed someone was standing in your view? LOL....
www.instagram.com/p/Bidi3bTjEu8 On August 21st of 2017, Matt Spohn and Charlie Egan completed the first ascent of a new route, Path of Totality, DURING the Great American Eclipse. This is the only first ascent on Monkey Face in the past fifteen years.
They did multiple climbs in preparation . . It was a one time shot but rehearsed . . It is incredible. .
hm... this climber bears a striking resemblance to the one pictured in #14 on this list.
I believe this photo credit goes to Tommy Hesser whose girlfriend hiked up Smith Rock.

Great shot! And the village idiots will post 'Photoshop' for each picture. Why are those morons even HERE?
I question the "diamond" orientation and the faint stars. I saw only Venus and Jupiter and they were not this close.
I would be afraid of falling off that steep of an incline!!! And, where was the photographer standing!
Wow this is one creative photo when you zoom in on it. Wow!!! Super cool . Didn't notice this right away
¡Genial! La pasión por la fotografía nos hace perder el sueño para lograr sueños.

The series he and his friends did are without a doubt some of the best, and best executed photos I've ever seen
Looks awesome, but I am going to be a doubting Thomas on this one as the sun was HIGH in the sky for the eclipse and the angle would have been impossible.
Go and look through his Instagram as well as the other guys out there. It was in Oregon so it was 1015ish. Low sun, big zoom lens to compress the background and 4 days of planning. There are multiple other shots from this series. Man... It drives me nuts when people disparage something like this. The guys are master photographers and it shows
Load More Replies...Simply put, the height of the Sun in the sky, throughout the entire total eclipse on land, was never at such an angle to make a shot like this possible. Nobody need look past that to explain why it is fake. That's not to say there aren't myriad reasons and bits of proof that it is fake, it's simply not necessary to get into them. At no point were the Sun and Moon low enough in the sky to account for such a shot.
You've not seen the rocks at Smith rock state park, I see, nor researched this particular photo trip, planning, climbing, etc...
Load More Replies...This is most DEFINITELY a fake. It might be possible to get this ratio of the size of the person to the sun/moon by taking photo from far enough away & using a telephoto, but the perspective of the sun being on the horizon would have been impossible to find in a real life setting. The eclipse happened in the early afternoon in all time zones, when the sun was nearly overhead, so the camera would have to be pointed up towards the sky. Even if the photographer was at the foot of a cliff in order to have ground that high int he air above him, you'd see the person in the photo from the perspective of beneath, not to the side. Unless he has his feet clamped to the ground and he is "planking" out horizontally from the cliff face lol.
Is this a fake too? It was taken by Derek Gedney, another Photographer at the same location from a slightly different angle. Maybe it's a good idea to check it out before you use the word "DEFINITELY". 2099309695...909997.jpg

Agreed the close up are a little in doubt because you can't tell scale but most stock images of total eclipses are done like this to be inserted where needed but definite cons: #2 bollocks, #5 bollocks, #6 double-exposure bollocks #10 potential composite stolen from the actual photographer bollocks, can't %100 confirm but i've seen this exact image without the foreground (because zoomed in to this size you would not see this kind of foreground detail or comparitive size) from an entirely different photographer.

Loved the photos. People need to stop calling every shot "shopped". 1) it's called edited, 2) most photos you see these days are edited (damn, don't you use filters for your instagram photos?!), 3) it's part of the art of photography - whether you approve of it or not, digital painting and heavy photo editing to create composite images and using multiple exposure are very common these days. If you really want to point out something out of the ordinary, point out raw unedited photos.
Julie...superimposing two photos onto each other and trying to pass them off as one, is FAKE..plain and simple. That is not edited. I was blessed to be in Varanasi on July 22, 2009 to see the solar eclipse. It was one of the places where complete viewing was predicted although it was not the best place. A village in Bihar was the hot spot in India & prediction was that China will have the best view. I & my elder daughter decided to take a chance at Varanasi & we were not disappointed. We had never seen so many people in our life. There were millions of people right from the Mughal Sarai railway station to the Ganga Ghats. We could manage a vantage point & were ready to shoot the eclipse. Unfortunately it started pouring from the dark cloudy skies. Surprisingly the moment eclipse started clouds over the sun cleared out & rain stopped. I could photograph the whole eclipse, every stage of this amazing surreal natural event. I will never forget the darkness at the time of totality & a big “”AHH”” coming out of awestruck millions watching the event. I'm from Chicago and two of my fellow photographers and I trekked to Missouri to see it. It was absolutely incredible to see such a phenomenon. It was well worth the 5.5 hour drive there and 7.5 hour drive back (traffic from fellow eclipse chasers) to experience totality like that. This is the moment of totality in Gray Summit, MO...the only post-processing I did was to adjust contrast, brightness, etc. NO COMPOSITES in this one.
#12 looks like some ISIS wanker watched Despicable Me and got a bit overly ambitious.

Best pictures, in my humble opinion are 2, 7, 17 and 32. Some of the others were either photoshoped or double exposed. Good work, all of them.
Al Roper from NBC was on board air craft carrier in Charlotte SC. I saw on TV the eclipse in one part of screen and lightning in the distance at the same time. Best video of the 2017 in my opinion since sun was covered by moon and clouds for a moment so no corona, total blackness except for the lightning. Awesome!

#1 is a blatant fake. It's wrong on about 4 different levels; perspective sizing of the sun and plane don't match; the contrails should be same brightness all the way across; exposure of the bottom of the plane doessn't jibe with being what should be a backlit silhouette, and finally the jet would have to be flying close to 90 degrees to the ground to get that angle. Think about what angle the sun was at close to totality and how a plane would have to be aligned between the sun and viewer to get that straight on look. Bogus as a $3 bill.
It's not even a contrail - it's a geoengineering chemical trail. We are being sprayed with chemicals. Look up the psychopath David Keith.

Beauty ! Congratulations. Best I have seen, including NASA
Load More Replies...Bored Panda folks, please do some fact-checking. Many of these are composite/ shopped photos from stock images, with past eclipses superimposed on other backgrounds. There are plenty of real photos of the 2017 eclipse that are spectacular, please feature those instead!
I saw it firsthand on the path and it does not look like any of these pictures. Stop making the sun bigger than it really is in real life. It does not look like any of these pictures.
Yes it did, but I do agree most we're at least slightly edited. Here's an awesome one that's not edited in any way.

Whatever however it was taken nothing was left to the imaginations of billions we were all in AHA
Awesome!
I thank everyone that shares their pics of the eclipse. In Nova Scotia I never saw it. Once again thank yo to all for sharing
East coast but the sun was shining in my hand 20170821_1...11bee5.jpg
Western New York was hot but not much of the eclipse but I held I in my hand 20170821_1...850910.jpg
YOU GUYS ARE LUCKY TO EVEN TOOK A FANTASTIC SHOT, AND I WAS LUCKY TO SEE JUST YOUR PHOTOS. SADLIFE
#38 has the caption backwards. That should say "The Moon Swallowing the Sun."
I had a canvas out for use with the pinhole, turns out, our tree was the best pinhole! 21015898_1...0b3837.jpg

Load More Replies...Took this one with the selfie mode on my phone... you can see the outline of the moon which I think is cool moon-599c5...13bc2e.jpg

They might have, but that's not a picture of it. That's a composite.
Load More Replies...you must live in the south as those in the north don't start for another week or two.

That's not a real photo. How gullible are you people?! Damn.
Load More Replies...A better title would be "10+ Best Photoshop Jobs of the 2017 Eclipse," because the overwhelming majority of them are faked.
