On Monday, August 21, 2017, millions of people were staring at the same thing through doofy glasses, as they tried to catch a glimpse of the solar eclipse. Not only that, they also immortalized the awe-inspiring moment in photos, and Bored Panda has collected the best of them in case you missed the phenomenon or can't get enough of it.

A total solar eclipse covered a narrow portion of the United States from Salem, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina. And a partial one was visible across the entire continent of North America, as well as in parts of South America, Africa, and Europe. This was the first time since 1918 when North America experienced the path of totality from coast to coast.

Looks awesome, but I am going to be a doubting Thomas on this one as the sun was HIGH in the sky for the eclipse and the angle would have been impossible.

Go and look through his Instagram as well as the other guys out there. It was in Oregon so it was 1015ish. Low sun, big zoom lens to compress the background and 4 days of planning. There are multiple other shots from this series. Man... It drives me nuts when people disparage something like this. The guys are master photographers and it shows

Simply put, the height of the Sun in the sky, throughout the entire total eclipse on land, was never at such an angle to make a shot like this possible. Nobody need look past that to explain why it is fake. That's not to say there aren't myriad reasons and bits of proof that it is fake, it's simply not necessary to get into them. At no point were the Sun and Moon low enough in the sky to account for such a shot.

This is most DEFINITELY a fake. It might be possible to get this ratio of the size of the person to the sun/moon by taking photo from far enough away & using a telephoto, but the perspective of the sun being on the horizon would have been impossible to find in a real life setting. The eclipse happened in the early afternoon in all time zones, when the sun was nearly overhead, so the camera would have to be pointed up towards the sky. Even if the photographer was at the foot of a cliff in order to have ground that high int he air above him, you'd see the person in the photo from the perspective of beneath, not to the side. Unless he has his feet clamped to the ground and he is "planking" out horizontally from the cliff face lol.

Is this a fake too? It was taken by Derek Gedney, another Photographer at the same location from a slightly different angle. Maybe it's a good idea to check it out before you use the word "DEFINITELY". 2099309695...909997.jpg 20993096951011046322957599095680132878087957366395n-599e168909997.jpg

People parked in my lot with chairs, umbrellas, etc. I went out and announced that the eclipse had been cancelled, six people started to pack up and leave. One old woman said "Well, s**t! all the way from Cincinnati for nothing!" This is my most memorable moment of the eclipse.
