You have to respect the company you work for. You can never be late, never question anything and do an exceptional job every day. You must give multiple weeks notice before taking any holidays or quitting. But if the company decides that they’ve had enough of you, well, you could be unemployed at a moment’s notice!

It’s 2024, and it would be great to believe that society is finally fair and equal. But that would be far from the truth. There are still plenty of frustrating double standards affecting us all, so Redditors have recently been calling out the ones they’re tired of. Below, you’ll find a list of double standards that people no longer want to accept, so enjoy reading through and be sure to upvote the inequalities you can’t stand either!

Somebody Just Asked People To Post Examples Of Double Standards, And 45 Responses Were Spot-On I saw a post on a Facebook group I'm in recently. It was a selfie of a mother with her little boy in the backseat eating a pudding cup with no spoon and she had captioned it "making sure he's making his future girlfriends happy" or something along those lines.
I was disgusted by it, my boyfriend laughed. He tried to tell me I was being stuck up and a prude about it. I asked him if I was a father posting a picture of his daughter eating a popsicle and captioned it similar about making future boyfriends happy would you feel the same way? He looked like I slapped him in his face but he instantly got what I was saying.
Sexualizing children in any capacity is gross af and it even happens to little boys. People just need to do better and let kids simply be kids without putting sexual undertones to it. So f*****g weird.

Somebody Just Asked People To Post Examples Of Double Standards, And 45 Responses Were Spot-On Being a morning person and getting up early to get a bunch of stuff done, then going to bed early, is considered virtuous and mature. Being a night person and staying up late to get stuff done, then sleeping late the next day, is considered disorganized and lazy. Even if you did the same amount of work and slept the same number of hours.

I have colleagues who work 6am to 3pm, and people constantly chirp about how efficient they are. But when someone at my office asked if they could work 11 am to 8 pm because that fit better with their body’s energy cycle, they were mocked for wanting to oversleep like a teenager, and the request was denied.

Somebody Just Asked People To Post Examples Of Double Standards, And 45 Responses Were Spot-On I solely raised my daughter as a single father from the time she was a year old until she was almost six when I married my wife. The number of people who have asked about my daughter's mother just to reply with "Oh, she must have had PPD." or "There must be a mental illness involved." or "Maybe she will come around in a few years." is absolutely staggering. Like no man, she just decided she wanted to go party instead of being a mom to our child. No child support. No financial or emotional contribution. Nothing. Hell, I couldn't even get a copy of my daughter's health insurance card when her old one expired because "I wasn't on the paperwork" despite the fact that I was the one who filled out the paperwork for it at the hospital the day after she was born.

It's infuriating knowing full well that had the roles been reversed, and I'd have been the one to leave, I'd 100% instantly be considered a deadbeat father.

Somebody Just Asked People To Post Examples Of Double Standards, And 45 Responses Were Spot-On We live in an extroverts world.

In many Western cultures, being outgoing, sociable, and outspoken is often celebrated and encouraged. It's seen as the norm to want to chat, network, and be the life of the party. But when it comes to introverts who may crave quiet, solitude, or just less social interaction, the script flips.

It’s socially acceptable to nudge the quiet person in the room and say, "Why don't you talk more?" But imagine telling a chatty person, "Can you be quiet for a bit?" It would be considered rude or offensive.

This double standard underscores a deeper societal bias towards extroversion. The noise and buzz of constant interaction are often valued more than the quiet, reflective spaces introverts thrive in. It's like we're saying one way of interacting with the world is better than the other, when in reality, both have their strengths and should be equally respected. In a world that can't stop talking, sometimes we forget the power of silence and introspection. - An extroverted introvert.

Somebody Just Asked People To Post Examples Of Double Standards, And 45 Responses Were Spot-On The double standard between women, especially teenage girls, being fans of things, and men being fans of things.

It’s deemed as somewhat normal and almost to be expected than men go absolutely mental over sport, especially things like football, to the point that when there are football games on the local police are usually on standby to deal with the riots and fights that usually happen. And that’s just kind of seen as part of it and to be expected and is just people being passionate.

On the other hand, if you get a group of teenage girls getting a bit excited over like, idk, a BTS concert or a Taylor Swift show or something, suddenly that’s deemed weird and stupid and they get dragged for it.

It’s literally the same thing. The latter is also far less disruptive yet is the thing that is always demonised. It’s not a new thing either it goes back as far as like The Beatles and Elvis where it was just passed off as ‘ridiculous hysteria” meanwhile you’ve got a brexit geezer going absolutely feral because Manchester United lost.

Lowkey pisses me off a lot that anything women and teenage girls like is demonised yet things like sport get a free pass.

People should not be fined for crimes or be able to get out of them with money period.

Some male colleagues of mine were talking about how they didn't like women with lots of make-up. I pointed out I was wearing make-up, and they were, 'No, you're not." Dude, I'm wearing lipstick, mascara, eyebrow pencil and face powder. My face is literally fully covered in make-up. But apparently to them that was as 'no make-up' as their faces. They are good colleagues and I don't mind it (and I like wearing make-up, I truly think I look better with it), but it kinda amazed them just how much make-up it takes to look groomed as a professional woman.

Somebody Just Asked People To Post Examples Of Double Standards, And 45 Responses Were Spot-On This is probably small potatoes, but it’s kinda crazy that people are comfortable demanding height minimums on dating sites and just in conversation. Quite a few tinder profiles say ‘must be over 6ft’. It’s the only demand on a physical attribute that is commonly casually stated. It’s totally okay to feel that way, but it seems kinda rough to remind every short guy swiping that he has limited options. I’m over 6th and it still kinda pissed me off to see it. I have short friends. I always imagine the painful little ping they’d feel any time they saw it.

It took me until my 30’s to realize the double standard if I were another religion and sat at their table and insisted we pray to my god, they likely wouldn’t take so kindly to it. Just a comment about the cat allergies. Many people think they're allergic to the cat's fur, but quite often its a protein in the cat's saliva that actually causes the allergic reaction. I've found that if I wipe my cats down once or twice per day with a pet wipe or even a damp paper towel, I don't experience any allergy symptoms and I get to keep my cats!

I don't like dogs at all (partly from a traumatic incident in childhood) but that's my opinion and I'm entitled to it. I'm also not forcing that opinion on anyone else by saying I'm not changing what I think, and that is unfortunately something that most people do not understand.

Folks are welcome to dislike animals --it's what you do with this dislike that's important. Just don't have a pet🙂

I neither dislike cats or dogs. I dislike their owners who let them s**t everywhere without cleaning up after them.

Casually talking with a guy who's a dog person. I have two cats, and love all critters. Guy said "If a cat doesn't want to pay attention to me, it can burn in hell as far as I'm concerned." 🚩🚩🚩

Not really true at all, either of them. No, it's not OK to dislike cats like that; no. you're not branded as a sociopath just because you're not keen on dogs.

Well, it's certainly an exaggeration, but any time there's one of those "dating red flags" threads, someone always adds "doesn't like dogs" and there are strings of replies like "OMG this!! So true!"

Just because I don't like pets doesn't mean I am anti-animal. I like most animals, I just prefer to not have them stuck in my face or thrust onto my lap. I will ask you to leave your pet in the car if you come over with it (and all my friends know this) because my house is not "pet friendly" and I'm not redecorating for the few hours you are here. It's my house and I get to decide.

Well, not liking dogs is bizarre. Maybe they have a good reason, but on the face of it, it’s weird. But it’s so strange that some people have basically said you’re either a cat person or a dog person, nothing in between. No…most people who like dogs actually love cats, too (I know I do). And I’m sure there are some people with cats who also love dogs….I think.

Some people like dogs because they are codependent (do anything for you). The same people dislike cats because they'll walk, if they aren't treated right.

Dogs are bad for the local ecosystem, while cats can destroy local ecosystems. From a environmental standpoint, cats are worse than dogs. This comes from a farmer who losses a lot more when a dog gets into the chicken pen than when a cat does. Cats are also one of the main reasons for song bird deaths, and it is normal to let your cat out to run with no enclosure. One big problem I have with cat people is that they seem to think leash laws don't apply to their pets, whereas if a dog is not on a leash the owner get a fine and the dog may get killed. I DO NOT HATE CATS, I hate cat owners who are irresponsible. Note: Dog owners can be irresponsible too, but it is better prosecuted when it happens.

I think it's becoming a lot less socially acceptable to let your cat out of the house to just roam around, at least in some areas. I live near Fish Creek Park in Calgary (one of the 5 largest urban parks in Canada) and we have a ton of coyotes, and people will get very harshly judged and reprimanded for letting their cats out, and this attitude has changed a lot in the past 20 years or so. Not coincidentally, the songbird population has skyrocketed (so has the woodpecker population lol) and I now commonly see birds I had never seen before (like bluejays, prairie chickens, even ducks!)

I like both, but I'm more of a dog person. I don't distrust people who have an aversion to dogs though, because there could be a lot of reasons for it. They may have PTSD from being attacked or bitten by a dog, or they just prefer a pet that's easier maintenance. Dogs are a big responsibility and are more dependent than cats. Doesn't mean they're a bad person.

I think this is perpetuated by the media. When was the last time you saw a character with bipolar disorder living a normal life with a job and family instead of being a psychopath or murderer? Or someone with schizophrenia whose symptoms are managed with medication and only see what's actually there? Movies and TV shows do almost nothing to promote understanding and acceptance of severe mental illness.

One time a Man unfamiliar with our facility accidentally used the Boy’s locker room (instead of the Mens) to change before working out (middle of the day, no kids around because they’re in school) and everybody freaked the f**k out. (I 100% know it was an honest mistake. The guy was so embarrassed because of how the staff reacted.) While on the other hand - adult Women routinely used the Girls locker room because ‘it’s too crowded’ (or whatever the excuse, etc). This was allowed by management for a looong time. Finally got that policy enforced equally when I confronted it after we all had the implicit bias training…

Edit- probably file this under r/unpopularopinion, but someone asked - and it is what it is
To be clear, the policy was ‘Only adults accompanying young children that need assistance are allowed in the Youth locker rooms’

Any sports or concert events where the woman's room line is a mile long, women can use the stalls in the men's room and no one cares. If a guy went into a woman's room, he'd come out with a high heel in his a*s!

If you got large numbers of people killed within the last 300 to 500 years, you're a war criminal. If you did the same thing at an earlier point in time, you're a great statesman. Think Julius Caesar or Genghis Khan.

Older generation acting like the younger generation is naive and susceptible to being duped.

Meanwhile it's only old people I see who:

* Post FB updates like "I DO NOT GIVE PERMISSION TO FB TO USE MY PHOTO" or
* Believe fake news or
* Answer calls from spam phone numbers or
* Get pillaged by a Nigerian prince or
* Provide their social security and credit card numbers to an unknown number
