Six Men Read Stories About Real Sexual Violence Experienced By Women
#MUSUDAUG is a project organized and created by “Moterys Kalba”(Women Speak) team, dedicated to commemorate the 25th of November – International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
We invited 6 famous Lithuanian men to participate in this project without them knowing any further details. During the filming, we asked them to read 6 real stories of women who experienced sexual violence. These stories reached us after we asked fans of our “Moterys Kalba” Facebook page to share their stories on sexual violence or sexual harassment.
Out of 25 stories 19 happened in a domestic environment endured by women in all phases of their lives, including childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. Women suffered sexual violence perpetrated by their fathers, uncles, brothers, neighbors, step-fathers, partners and so on. There are many reasons why women choose not to report these experiences or seek help. One of the main reasons is the fact that victims are still being stigmatized in our societies.
We want to change that. Together we can create an environment where the victims would be able to speak, find help and heal emotionally. Sexual violence is a crime, a crime that happens in both cities and villages, it does not depend on a person’s socioeconomic status and even family ties do not prevent this. Let’s become the people that victims can reach out to.
