New Comic Artist Creates Illustrations That Will “Make Your Cheeks Dance” (30 Pics)
Interview With ArtistToday we have some more fun and colorful comics for you! SayHeySimon started posting these comics on August 2nd, 2021, and has been gaining a decent amount of traction since. The artist's name is Simon and he's from Vienna, Austria. His comics are full of bright colors and interesting characters that will easily pull you into the world this illustrator created.
The topics the artist covers are funny and often quite bizarre, like talking fruit, issues animals run into, funny twists of famous characters, or fairytales. However, SayHeySimon also touches upon topics like the pandemic, relationships, social media, and other themes that are relevant in today's society.
The artist told Bored Panda: "I actually wanted to start animating videos a year ago. During that time I drew more than ever, I discovered my own drawing style and developed a kind of discipline to work on it every day. I wasn't happy with it. It wasn't until the summer that I got the idea to try my hand at my own comics. I found it so much fun because I was able to realize my crazy ideas even more than ever in my own way"

We got an interview with Simon and he shared what the main goal of his illustrations is: "My main goal is to make people's cheeks dance, as I always call it. I want to make people happy but sometimes also make them think about certain topics (e.g. climate change)."
Fighting climate change is not to save nature. Nature will survive. We might not.
At least in the Pacific Northwest of the USA, navigators didn't use lighthouses to find the shore, they used them to identify where along the shore they were. Each lighthouse had a uniquely-shaped Fresnel lens that projected a different pattern, allowing sailors to identify which lighthouse it was.
"I've been drawing since I was a child," said Simon. "But I've never done it continuously as I do now. I think the most difficult thing is to tell a story with as little text as possible, always knowing that I only have 4 panels per comic available." Creating comics is no easy task—it's quite challenging to place a whole story, joke, and punchline into just a few panels.
Wait if you get past 40, things speed up baby! (But not the way you think)
Simon mentioned that he doesn't limit himself to just a few topics and he tries to cover anything he wants to: "When it comes to the topics, I have almost no limits. From climate change to everyday situations but also completely absurd moments, everything should be included. But I usually try to give the reader a little message on their way."
"I would describe my style as humorous, colorful, and encouraging. As for my humor, I think my humor is actually pretty absurd and also sarcastic," said Simon when asked to describe his drawing style and humor.
Here's how Simon got into comics in the first place: "It wasn't until this summer that I spontaneously had the idea to draw my own comics. Soon I had enough crazy ideas to start drawing. I'll try to keep going until I fall off the chair, haha."
Sunflowers do not turn directly like we do. On site of the stem grows faster then the other and so the "turn" to the sun. And thats why they stop follow the sun, when they stop growing. I learned that not long ago and i think it fits here. :)
"I really enjoy drawing because I get a sense of inner peace and at the end of the day it gives me a nice feeling that I have created something on my own. I also get many great reactions every day from people who take the time to read my comics, so how could I stop there?" Simon finds inspiration in many things, but just as many artists tell us, his main inspiration comes from his fans and viewers.
Here is some advice from Simon to those who are thinking of starting an artistic career: "Just start drawing. Every beginning is difficult. Draw the things you enjoy yourself without thinking about whether others will like it or not."
Simon tells us more about himself: "Haha, just like Spiderman. I'm the normal guy with a normal life from the neighborhood who wasn't bitten by a spider but woke up one morning and decided to draw comics. So I could humbly say, my little superpower is to put a smile on people's faces."
"I just want to give a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who really takes the time to read the comics of a normal guy with his normal life from the neighborhood. That means the world to me."
