I thought that was scariest, because my late wife and I were the only ones on our family plan, and her phone is still in the dresser drawer.

When I lost my husband in 2011, I used to text his phone, about milestones with the kids or grand children... I was shocked, terrified and over joyed to receive a reply. The number had been put back into circulation after only 6 months. The person who got his old number... was very understanding and a bit freaked out by my texts. Once they understood what was going on they told me to text anytime. I thanked them but never did message thsm again. When I look back on it now it was the begining of my acceptance of my life without him....

When my wife died, my brother-in-law came to visit. He lives abroad, so I gave him her phone to stay connected during his visit. He went to a grocery store and got lost on the way back, so he called me. I picked up my phone, and it showed my late wife's name. I almost had a heart attack at that moment. It was only couple of days since her passing.

That's only applicable if the person you are texting was on a family plan.
