I remember reading on why women aren't given pain meds during gynecological procedures (IUD insertions, colposcopy, LEEP, etc) and read the line "female pain is more acceptable to the medical community than male pain." And that really stuck with me.

Doc prescribed me Codeine. I said 'nope - gimme the good stuff'. He cooperated. I took 2 for the procedure, stashed the rest. Gotta make that sh/t last, good to have for emergencies.

Women have been treated as lesser since the beginning of time. Yes, there have been matriarch societies in history where women are the dominant gender, but the world has been mostly patriarchal, and created a space to oppress women. Religion has made it worse, as there are /multiple/ oppressive major religions, but it's not the root of the problem. Men have never needed religion as an excuse to control and oppress women. Religion doesn't have to be inherently oppressive, in fact, in my Christian church, the pastors advocate for women in the workforce, as equals to men. Someone asked how to get his wife to submit to him and they laughed in his face. But religion is still used to oppress. Many churches in the south have ostracized churches that have hired women to be pastors. Religion is a part of the problem, but it is not /the/ problem.

And strangely enough all pain women experience are imagined and only in their heads. This is so fudged up.

I have Lupus, Rheumatoid arthritis, neuropathy in my feet and I cant get pain meds any stronger than Tylenol 4. And those just hurt the stomach.

They actually believe this and it gets worse if you're black too..

Had Eve not "tempted" Adam with the apple, none of us would exist (if u believe in that sort of thing). With the eating of the apple came the knowledge and ability to reproduce and raise children. So blaming all the worlds evils on women is not really fair. Because without us, life would not exist. It was all a way for the catholic hierarchy to change the religions of the time from Matriarchal to Patriarchal societies, and it worked like a charm

Same thing with jobs though. This is why people say that those individuals that post racist/sexist things online should lose their job.

I went in for a gum trimming (it is exactly what it sounds like) and they gave me nitrous oxide for about half an hour, numbing jell and a couple novocaine injections, then they did the 30 second procedure. Glad I have a competent dentist.

I had been telling my husband for years about this. After coming with me to the doctor more than once, he now realizes this is a real thing that doctors do to women.

And there's me, turning down pain relief because I don't like not knowing if something is hurting!

I've had a few root canal procedures in the last 20 years (4). They are not as traumatic nor as painful as people fear. I always use over the counter Ibuprofen after the novocaine during the procedure. The whole point of a root canal procedure is to remove the nerve which causes the pain. Once removed there is little or no pain in the future. That dentist should be reported to the Dental Association for his misogyny. Totally unacceptable in this day and age. You can't blame everything on religion. There is still a personal and individuals choice to behave in a manner that reflects today's values AND laws. People should be reported and held to account for their misbehaviour.

When I have birth I had a 3rd degree tear and an episiotomy with severe swelling and they wouldn't give me Anything other than ibuprofen. Should be criminal.

Get a female dentist.

I hope there's an underlying scientific or medical explanation. Doctors are not trained like that...

It might not be religion; he might think women have grown used to pain due to period/ovulation cramps. Still bad, though.

I wonder if they don't assume that we can take the pain easily due to the fact that we are used to pain from birthing children.

Rootcanal means they take nerve out and clean the infected nerve cavity, in country you get paracetamol or no pain meds. some NSAIDs antiinflammatory stuff maybe for it and opioids? only when u dying like from cancer or smth. Americans handle no pain EVER you mean. pain has a function so does fever. Your body and mind can deal, need 2 only take the edge off for comfort +prevent it going out of controll ( very high fever) nothing wrong with pain, y'all rather be addicted for life after surgery than handle pain. I got paracetamol only after they took out my bile pouch(?) from my stomach / liver( Galblatter) went and pick up my youngest from daycare the next day( that hurt I admit I shouldn't have) But I handle pain like a boss with 2 born naturally in 2,5 hrs and 2nd in 40 mins rocket launch births...no pain meds..woman DO handle pain better. I never wanted to have children (and I don't). In my early 20's I looked into getting a hysterectomy and my doctor said that if I met a guy and he wanted kids, I would regret it. So my doctor and the imaginary husband had more rights than I do.
