Cats love to lounge around. They take ‘cat naps’ all throughout the day sleeping 12 to 16 hours – but what about at night? You may not know this, but cats are actually nocturnal animals. Sure they adjust their sleep patterns a bit to match those of their owners, but on the whole nighttime is when they like to come out and play.

A cat owner in Thailand wanted to know just what kind of shenanigans his cute cat was getting into at night so he set up a secret camera to record his pet while he slumbered. As you might imagine he caught some pretty adorable purr-anormal activity, as his furry companion stood watch of his sleeping body.

Facebook user Lomphonten Lomphontan uploaded nighttime cam shots of his cat’s behavior to the Thai Facebook group ‘Cat Lovers Club.’ As you can see he was able to catch some pretty perfect cat photos.

Cats are descendants of the African wildcat – a mostly nocturnal animal. The domestication of cats have made their activity patterns more diurnal (awake in the day) like ours, however, most cats will still wake at least twice if not more at night… as you can see here.

This Facebook user isn’t the only ‘curious cat’ who wanted to know what felines are up to at night. Researchers at the University of Georgia placed small cameras on 55 cats in the Atlanta area and then studied more than 37 hours of footage to identify trends. Just like their ancestors, 44% of these outdoor cats hunted for wildlife, 85% of these captures occurred during the warmer seasons.

Whether they are indoor or outdoor you’ve probably heard silly cats make the most noise at night with yowling sounds. These cries can be due to a number of reasons: old age, stress, medical problems or just plain boredom (this happens especially in indoor cats that didn’t have enough playtime).

If your cat is disrupting your sleep at night there are several different suggestions. Just like you would with kids try to tire your cat out closer to the evening with play sessions. Try feeding your cat before bedtime, as they usually tend to sleep after eating a big meal.

It is important to note that even though your funny cat loves you they can unintentional injure you at night. A cat may notice an eye moving underneath the eyelid and swat at it in a playful move. Sadly, it may be best for you to lock them out of the bedroom for a more peaceful night’s rest.

I'm a very light sleeper and can confirm this is what cats do. I had one cat wake me up because she had a good portion of her head in my mouth. She was licking my tongue. I woke up and asked her what she was doing and she answered, "None of your business."

I think you might be confusing the phrase "I'm a very light sleeper" with "I sleep like I've been on a NyQuil bender for 3 days" ... but still, hilarious!

My cat does that too. She purrs and kneads me before lying down on my chest and then it's our cuddle time. If I'm lying on my front, she'll climb on my back and do the same ritual and if I'm not lying down when she wants me to she'll look at me and then at the bed clearly waiting and insisting that I lay down so she can climb on me. And while I'm asleep she usually lays to sleep by my feet instead of on my chest (after coming back in from her nightly wanderings) so I have to be careful not to shove her or kick her in my sleep and wake her up.

Sorry but off topic: How they do not wake up? I wake up as soon as I feel little soft body pressed against my back, not to mention if she would actually step on me. I would really like to be such hard sleeper like these people.

Some people are deep sleepers. I had two cats that would jump on the bed while I was asleep, crawl over me, sit on me, pat my face, headbutt me. I was sound asleep the entire time. I only know this because my boyfriend told me they did all that to me. Once my cat tried to jump on the bed from the side, landed on my arm, lost his footing and slipped, and dug his claws into my flesh. You can bet I woke up that time. Ouch.

These are cute pics but I had to kick my cats out of my room. I kicked the dog out of my room too.I didn't realize how disruptive their antics were to my sleep until the night I kicked them out and I had the best night of sleep ever in years! First few weeks they would camp outside my door 'protesting' but now they are ok with it. I reclaimed my room due to the fact I'm technically allergic to my pets and wanted to have one fur baby free zone in the house.

Before my first sinus surgery, my sinuses would drive me freaking crazy!! So I'd call Kat (a rescue from my ex's friend) and he'd come into the bedroom and get in my face. He'd start kneading right across my cheekbones and purring as loud as could be!! My ex thought I would go ballistic because the cat usually drove me crazy, but that's what we'd do every night! He would never knead on my back though.

My cat Amazing Gracie checks my breath to see if my blood sugar is too low. If I don't wake up, or maybe can't wake up (happened twice) she slaps the heck out of me until I do. While I'm falling asleep, she's cradled on my right side, purring up a storm.

He eventually decided to like me, but would ignore me while daddy was gone! We get him a female buddy, whole dominates him, and scares him, and won’t let him come down stairs! Unless we are with him .. poor dude! She was also loving and vindictive, and would pee on only my dirty clothes in front of the washer!! Also, the heat shut off one winter night, and of course she blames me, and knocks our winder coats off the Newell post and pees on them because otherwise, she’d have to walk on the cold wood floor five steps to get to her litter box. Taught her brother bad habits too! Loved her til the end, was with her till the end. Smart cat!

Cats are wonderful, mysterious and crazy loving , aloof creatures! When hubs and I were dating, I’d come to visit. His cat, would secretly pee in my suit case! Before, he had his man all to himself! Then, I’d put clothes on smelling an awful smell, but could never prove it. Followed him one day, and he hops up on the bed, pees in the suit case with an evil grin on his face, then hops down. Needless to say, had to go buy new clothes and a new suitcase!! Flash forward three years, we are married.. he then licks the soles of only my black flat shoes! Ugh! Toss those a the slimy feeling is always there!
