Seal Finds Toy Version Of Itself, Can’t Stop Hugging It

If there’s anything cuter than a seal, it’s a seal with a plush version of itself! This adorable animal at Mombetsu Land, an attraction in Japan’s Hokkaido district, got a special present from the zoo staff – a plushie that looks just like the ‘mini me’ version of the seal.

Clearly, the seal got smitten with the toy, as he couldn’t stop hugging it, riding it on the back, and squeezing the toy to its heart. We wonder if the seal thinks the toy is its baby. One thing is for sure – this is cuteness overload.

Audrey, I thought the same. Or maybe he/she is lonely. Either way, cute but sad. :(

It looks like an animal that should be in the sea and not at a Japanese amusement park.

I agree. :) Instead of investing in zoos and captivities, people should invest in educational movies about animals for example

This animal must be very very very lonely to crave affection this much... Definitely not upvoting this. I won't downvote it but I can't approve it either.

What a cute smile. Well, it doesn't change my opinion that she should be free, not locked up in an amusement park.

Bull S**t! This seal is happy to be having an interaction with its human not the plush toy, how would a seal get a toy on its back?! The person put it there and took a quick photo! The seal was never "riding it around on its back. Same with the cuddle, they would have pushed the toy to its chest and the seal did a quick fin flap before dropping the toy, seals do not carry things in there fins!!!

Zoos are not my favorite place but to be honest l look at it like this ...l live in the jungle ...l cut myself it goes nasty ...l also get fevers and get sick a lot .....people who live in the city don't they are less at risk from the elements ....So while l have a life of freedom it has its dangers ....city people are the zoo seals and l live in the wild !!! ......in my opinion we are all wild creatures at heart !!! But we can all adapt to city life !!! I think the seal just loves the soft toy ....my 5 dogs live maily outside ..have never walked on a leash ...but if l ocassionally buy them toys they go nuts and love them too !!!

Sad that the seal has to hug a fake baby. It should be out in the ocean.

Such a skilled animal, can put a plush toy on its own back all by itself to pose for these totally not staged pictures.

it could be a very young seal just like children get attached to items so do young animals i do agree that if it has the skills it needs to survive in the ocean alone it should be free but if it has been raised by humans it's whole life it might not have the skills it needs to survive

If he wasn't in the zoo, he/she would face seal hunters. Yes it's sad that we collectively destroy for pelts and entertainment, or isolate in zoos far from natural habitat. At least she's got something to show love too

Perhaps it cannot be released into the wild. I visited a zoo in Alabama who only housed animals that could not be released into their own environment. Sad and cute.
