Seal Gets Surprised With A Giant Ice Fish Cake On His 31st Birthday

One of the best things about birthdays is that they give us a “free” opportunity to express our gratitude to the ones around us and make them feel special—with no particular reason other than that they were born on this exact day some years ago.

And you know what? Animals deserve their special days as well. They enjoy being treated just as much as we do and this cutie from Cornish Seal Sanctuary who just turned 31 is the perfect proof of that. On his 31st birthday, this rescue grey seal named Yulelogs got surprised with a giant ice cake filled with fish, and as you can see, the good boy wasn’t able to contain his joy.

Yulelogs was rescued back in 1989 by a marine park in the north of England when he was a very small pup. After some time, the park closed and the seal was released back into the wild. “However, after such a long time in captivity, he had no idea how to feed himself and had become too used to humans,” reads the official website of Cornish Seal Sanctuary.

“Three months after his release, Yulelogs was rescued by the RSPCA after receiving calls from concerned members of the public saying he had been chasing people with buckets on the beach, believing they contained fish,” the team of the sanctuary writes on their official website.

Later, the seal was rescued once again, since apparently, he had no idea how to feed himself and had become too used to humans

Turns out, when Yulelogs got rescued the second time, he weighed only around 132lb (60kg) instead of the standard 551lbs (250kg). “It was apparent he needed care, so the RSPCA asked the Cornish Seal Sanctuary if they would provide a permanent home for him,” reads the website.

Now Yulelogs lives in Cornish Seal Sanctuary and he just turned 31

Now, at 31, Yulelogs is a happy, energetic, and enthusiastic seal and everyone at the sanctuary absolutely adores him. This birthday was quite a bit of a milestone for the seal and the whole sanctuary as well, since in the wild, male grey seals tend to live to be around 25 years old.

To mark this milestone, the team of Cornish Seal Sanctuary surprised Yulelogs with a giant cake filled with yummy fish. “Yulelogs absolutely loved his birthday cake,” Georgina Shannon, the marketing and media coordinator for the sanctuary, told The Dodo. “It’s a great form of enrichment for him also, as it requires a bit of thinking on how to get the fish out of the cake!”

And here’s what people on the internet are saying about Yulelogs and his giant fish cake
