Many people like perks. No, not like that. Many people enjoy being entitled, or at least just feeling entitled. Even if they do not have any slightest reason to feel a bit better than others at something, they will just come up with a reason.

This happens especially often, for example, in the service sector, where people who for some reason feel "entitled" help themselves to much more than the boundaries of decency allow. Sometimes one look at a person is enough to understand that they are entitled as hell.

And sometimes it's not. So Reddit users shared their stories about how they had to interact with these categories of entitled people, and how to recognize them easily. The thread came out very popular with almost 2K upvotes and more than 2.3K various comments. Bored Panda has created an incredibly entitled curated list for you with a selection of the most interesting stories from this thread.

So feel free to scroll down, leave your comments - and just try to never be like the heroes of these "entitled-persons-and-where-to-find-them" stories.

This. so many unwanted children living a sad life just because the mother had to give birth to them. If only the pro-lifers were as good at adopting them as they are at calling women who had abortions murderers.. being unwanted may not impact your body but it kills your soul.

This!! Like if you were actually “pro-life” you’d be protesting the lack of accessible child-care, the continual defunding of children’s education, the system that leaves kids to float through an unstable foster care system their whole lives, helping support homeless children, worrying about their futures…..but nope, it’s all about the non-sentient fertilized clumps of cells in a woman’s womb for the first couple months of pregnancy, terminating that life is where the real injustice is.Makes a real difference in the world, good job guys /s 🙄 Nobody deserves to feel unwanted 🧡

I've noticed that self-proclaimed pro-life people don't seem to care about the 5,000 children who die from gunshots each year. Gun related injuries are now the leading cause of death for children in the US.

Gun violence bc of domestic violence always the male partner or father is the leading cause of death for pregnant women in the US too but the same people that swear a women that has a life saving D & C is less important than their Ak47s. Not to mention no one forced anyone to give their organs to save a kids life but they want ti force a woman to give her mind and every single organ in her body to something she doesn't want. If it was really about kids they wouldn't be criminalizing or banning birth control. It's modern day slavery to force women to give their bodies away wo choice according to their made up beliefs that do not coincide w science or medical knowledge. Corpses have more autonomy you need consent to harvest their organs. Consent to sex is not consent to pregnancy. Womens life saving healthcare is needed physically and mentally.

They're not pro-life. After the kids are born, they really don't give a $hit. They're more interested in controlling what other people do, which is the exact opposite of what a conservative should want.

Yep but those same taxpayers that want to hold on to their machine guns won't pay the taxes to take care of living breathing children that are forced on women to birth. Even when men were drafted against their will they were given food shelter and medical care but women that are being forced to birth the next generation of slave labor for 7.25$ an hour aren't given any social safety net and they do not care if they die( the first two leading causes of death of pregnant women is gun violence and poor healthcare, the US has the highest rate of death during pregnancy than any other) at all but that's their plan. They want women to be desperate so they can charge them w felonies for getting abortions or birth control in another state and charge the doctors and family as co conspirators so they cannot vote. While still lining their pockets for doing what the corporations have paid them to do. There's no way scotus and the right wing party isn't being bribed by Walmart corporation.

The so-called “pro-lifers” should be made to watch footage from Romanian orphanages during the time Ceausescu was in control. That’s what really happens when a country bans both birth control and abortion, but couldn’t give a fat rat’s a*s what happens to the babies once they’re born. (BTW, he—-and his wife—-didn’t end well. Just Google it.)

They aren't pro-life. They're pro-birth. If they were pro-life they'd care enough about all of them to provide a safe life where they don't go hungry, live in decent housing and get a good education. A woman's medical decisions are hers and hers alone as discussed with her doctor. Anyone who disagrees with that premise, well, we get to know what your decision about a medical procedure is, and if we don't like it we'll get together and protest the he!! Out of it.

Now rapists will be emboldened too. They will get women pregnant and they will be forced to have their kid. They will have more of a right to womens bodies than a woman will. Rape is a way lesser crime than homicide. So now this tells women that are raped they are worth less than their rapists and their bodies can be used to make children that the rapist could get custody of to abuse also. This is all so f. U. Ked

This! Pro life people are always very hypocritical. They don't want anyone to get an abortion but they sure as hell aren't going raise all of those unwanted kids or give a sh*t what happens to them. I cannot stand the ridiculous reasons people are pro life or the ridiculous things they say. I really have the "just use birth control" argument. Guess what no form of birth control other than just not having sex is 100% effective. You can do everything right and still get pregnant and its your choice whether you want to continue to be pregnant or not. It is so sad that it is 2022 and women's rights are being taken away instead of more being given to us. It is ridiculous that any of this is even a discussion at this point. Its ridiculous that women's rights need to be "given" to us. We live in such a messed up reality, it is genuinely depressing.

I prefer that to the reverse - I could walk away, but the wait staff or counter person couldn't. Whatever I think of their conversational skills, I do appreciate their courtesy to working people.

Think about how strongly you believe in your religion, then realize others feel just as strongly about their religion as you do, and some people feel just as strongly that there is nothing. My city has one of the largest naval districts in the country so there's plenty of military wives. Two stories pop into my head. One lady once tried to make me vacate a park bench, when I told her no she said her her husband was a navy Sargeant. I gave her a blank stare and said "cool, and?" After me pointing to other benches she could sit and ignoring her, she threatened to call the cops because she knew her rights and her husband was out there defending the country, so she was entitled to sit where she chose to. Another time a disabled neighbor got up in the middle of the night to help his toddler. The kid was crying, he had to walk with crutches, so there was some noise. Another neighbor went to his door, punched him in the face, yelled a lot saying he was whatever navy title and needed his rest. However, the first guy's wife was his superior, heard everything and knew very well who he was later at base. My mom tutored one of their kids, he told us everything.

I absolutely, honestly am not trying to make this one of those “America sucks” comments in any, any way, but I HAVE to ask: would this as a matter of fact BE an american thing? Because this is an absolute non-thing where I live. The term “military spouse” would never be uttered here, if it ever existed it was long before I was ever born. At most your friends will be aware that you’re married to a military employee - if they’re close friends they might even know what specific job the person in question has in the military, and that’s the absolute and total extent of it. Calling oneself “military spouse” would be like calling yourself a “baker spouse” or a “teacher spouse”. I’ve gotten the impression that being in the military has some sort of status in the US, is that correct or am I totally misinterpreting things?

    Tenacious Squirrel

Generally salutes and ranks are only relevant inside the job. The special treatment in society for simply being part of the military I think only exists in some countries (USA for example) but I think this post is referring to that. The military wives and their serving husbands might have their eyes opened a bit going to countries where the husband’s job is largely ignored. Btw I’m aware how sexist and dated the wives/husbands references are but I’m echoing the post itself.

My ex-husband wouldn't really make big messes at restaurants but every single movie theater, he'd leave everything behind and didn't care if he kicked over the popcorn in the floor or left his candy wrappers there. It made me disgusted. I'd tell him every time to get his stuff and he'd always say that someone gets paid to clean it. I would always have my hands full of my things and the children's things to pick up his too. I hardly ever went to a movie with him because I just didn't like his attitude when going there. He'd also litter all the time. He did more things that were more covert, so he wouldn't be confronted by anyone, besides me. I didn't nag him, there was no point, I picked up what I could and went on. It got old pretty fast.

Despite having a good tray with their order and cartons they could have used, they proceeded to pour ketchup directly on to the table surface, and more than they needed. ALOT more. I have always, in cafes and pubs, and even our local diner, returned cups, plates and cutlery. It is common decency to help those who serve you. Even in a pub, when we have finished drinking, I always return the glasses.

Slightly off topic but since my early 20’s I’ve always made it a habit to stack my “done” dishes when I’ve finished using them in a restaurant. Because I figured it would be easier for the busser to pick them up. Someone I was eating with once said, “don’t do that, they hate when people do that.” That remark has perplexed me since then. Am I missing something?

I work in a restaurant and I always appreciate when people do that for me. I personally have never heard another server complain about that.

I had to give my mother a hard lecture about that last month. She was making a mess looking for something on a shelf and knocking some to the floor and when I put it back on the shelf her very response was "don't do that, it's not your job", uh, I've worked retail for nearly 2 decades now, it HAS been my job, and having to do something that could have easily been avoided but is now priority is taking time away from things I actually needed to do.

At the Sea-Tac airport waiting in line to board and this 20 ish young lady just comes around a pillar and gets in line. I wasn't having it. In a very loud voice I said, "Um excuse me? There's this whole line thing going on here and your place is at the end of it" pointing about 25 people away. She turned beet red and started walking away. I got applause.

I had been waiting to check out for over 10, maybe 15 mins and she had just walked up to wait behind me and another person finallyyy came to open the other register and she immediately zipped over to it. The woman behind her saw what happened and let me go before her at the other register. I almost cried while i was thanking her.

If you see an able-bodied person leaving dog shite, absolutely shite on them. I'm a wheelchair user, soon to get a service dog. Yes, service dogs are trained to go on command so that it's in a place that the handler can pick it up, but sometimes, SOMETIMES it will go in a place I can't get to. I do my best but won't always be able to pick up if it's left in the middle of a grassy area, for example, my chair can't go through the grass very easily. Remember this is a thing, sometimes disabled people simply can't get to it to pick it up

I’m in a wheelchair, I WISH someone would create a gadget that lets me pick up his poop, That is small enough for me to carry on the chair or hang on the side. Most of them are so big that I need an extension to my chair to carry it. Most wheelchairs are compact & have no extra space for anything. I actually had a woman yell at me once because I wouldn’t get out of my Wheelchair & pick up the poop. I never let him poop on foot paths. He usually goes in the dirt beside a bush pathway.

Honestly, anyone giving someone in a wheelchair a hard time for not picking up their dog's poop, needs to get some f*****g perspective. If it bothers you that much, pick it up your damn self, and let the person in the wheelchair walk their dog in peace.

Cigarette butts are worse imo. I pick my pup's poop, if I run out of baggies midwalk, I forage for a big leaf to pick it up, but it's natural, everybody poops, the nature is full of it, it thrives on it. Cigarette butts, on the other hand, are filthy, disgusting and polluting. Sure, if you step on a cigarette butt ir won't cause any problem, but I think they're more disgusting than poop.

I once didn't wash the dishes for a week to see if my OH would do them. He asked why there were no clean dishes after 7 days and I asked if he'd washed them or even put the dishwasher on. He soon started washing them after that.

Exactly! If you don't know how you're supposed to deal with it, ask someone else what you should do. For instance, when asked to unload the dishwasher, I might leave some things off to the side because I don't know where they go. However, I'll then ask for help as to where they're supposed to go instead of just sitting there thinking this is someone else's problem.

(I wasn’t fired, she was brushed off by my manager lol it’s just ketchup).

I usually respond by asking them (loudly enough so all the customers can hear) if what I apparently did/didn't do was so heinous that it deserves depriving me of my meagre livelihood, my mother of having someone who can afford to take care of her, having another person on government benefits etc etc, all because she they can't forgive an honest mistake (or such)? We don't normally make it much further than the first half of that before shame kicks in thankfully.

Person Online Inquires “What Screams ‘I Am Entitled?'”, And 30 People Provide Their Answers Incessant whining over shared inconveniences. For example, person goes to the DMV to find a 90 minute wait. Everyone else that arrived around the same time as them is also having to wait 90 minutes. But this person just. Won’t. Shut. Up about it. Like dude, we get it. It sucks. Literally no one is enjoying this experience. You’re not entitled to any faster service than anyone else, and bitching about it isn’t going to change that.

I'm disabled and the DMV has a special window for the disabled so they can sit or be in their wheelchair or whatever. I had a guy yell that it wasn't fair that disabled people got through the line faster and didn't have to stand in line (we are allowed to go straight in and they find seats if none are available). We still have to wait our turn, they are just trying to make it easier for us. Yes, I don't have to wait as long as you, but I wish I was able to stand in line and walk without a cane, and be normal. Their wait that day was 40 minutes. Mine was 25. I sat in a chair that caused me pain just to renew my disabled car tags. Guy got so belligerent that they made him leave. All that bitching only made hurt my feelings, but what they did to him was awesome

Funny you used DMV for an example since the majority of the wait time at most DMV's are created by staff that just wander around to "look" busy. There is no reason why 95% of the business at DMV can't be handled within 15 minutes provided no one laid out. Our local DMV is a prime example, it's run by a bunch of self entitled jerks that think they can do as they please. Even the State Police have set a few of them straight on occasion. I usually go to the DMV in one of the towns 30 miles away because even with the drive time, I'm there, done and back home faster than dealing with the local idiots.

These people spend 30 minutes walking around the store with the cart, stand in the check out for 15 minutes with the cart, wheel the cart 100 feet to their car, and then leave the cart in the parking lot 15 feet from the cart corral.

I find myself mildly entertained when karens destroy their own credibility like this. Manipulators and narcissists are harder to expose, however. They won’t expose their true colors easily, unless you willfully feed their ego just right enough to make them drop their guard and do something foolish, then point out the egotistical beliefs behind their actions and words. They’ll try to say that you’re the manipulative one (maybe, maybe not), but you can always stand firm on what you exposed, pretend not to be affected by their accusation, and repeatedly talk over the top of them about how immature they’re behaving at trying to deflect the attention off their own bad behavior. Treat them like a misbehaving child in front of others and they lose their s***.

Islam also supports that idea. In Al kafirun (A Quran chapter) it says "Say, "O disbelievers, ۝ I do not worship what you worship. ۝ Nor are you worshippers of what I worship. ۝ Nor will I be a worshipper of what you worship. ۝ Nor will you be worshippers of what I worship. ۝ For you is your religion and to me is mine." That means that Muslims believe that people can have different beliefs but they will respectfully say I don't believe in what you worship and I never will (to stop being forcefully told info or etc) and that they probably won't either. But it is respectfully saying that we have our own ways and we can co-exist. "Disbelievers" is the term for people who do not believe in Islam. There is also hadeeth (words of the Prophet Muhammad) that say to treat disbelievers with respect and kindness. Muslims are advised to share Islam if asked but forbidden from forcing others onto it. That'd make Muslims aggressors and it's a common theme in Islam to turn away from anger/cruelty.

Someone who thinks it is OK to tear off a woman's head-scarf - whether the woman is a Muslim, a conservative or Orthodox Christian, a Jew - is a clear and present danger to me, to my family, and to my community; and I am willing to take the responsibility to do whatever it takes to end that danger. I clearly understand if someone else is not willing to take on such responsibility; I do not demand that they do so. But I do not - will not - agree that their position is morally superior. Strike me, I will hit back. Strike someone else in my presence, I will use force to make you stop - and I will not call 911 until you are rendered immobile.

Crackers will only stop doing this c**p when they learn to be afraid to try it. "Be peaceful, be courteous, obey the law, respect everyone; but if someone puts his hand on you, send him to the cemetery." - Malcolm X Muslim women: learn self-defense - I'd recommend Wing Chun or Krav Maga. Muslim men: if you witness anyone doing this to a sister, make 100% sure they leave on a gurney. I am saying that Muslims should neither tolerate assault on their own persons, nor tolerate assault on others in their presence. Assault is a moral crime; and to allow assault to proceed unchecked is also a moral crime, and taking no action while witnessing and allowing assault to take place is itself a serious injury to society. It is absurd and contemptible to call self-defense "hateful", and to characterize defense of another as a "hateful" act is even worse.

The way it goes in my Church (I'm a Christian) is that we're supposed to share God with people. If they take it, they take it. If they don't, you move on. It's that simple. There's a difference between sharing your religion and forcing it and this generation really needs to learn it. I get it. In a lot of religions, it is a part of that religion to share it with others. But share. Don't force. Two different things.

In Quebec they don't even have the right to wear them. No hijabs, no yamulkas, no crosses, no Star of David necklaces, I'm not even sure about the headdress male Sikhs wear. Last time I heard, this was the case. Maybe, I hope it's had a stay while it goes to our Supreme Court.

Person Online Inquires “What Screams ‘I Am Entitled?'”, And 30 People Provide Their Answers I'm a gas station worker and when people don't say please or thank you, when they're on the phone(mostly when they're VERY loud). When they walk in, dont even look at you, practically throw the money at you and say "20 on pump 5" and walk out. OH! And when there's only one person there, we have to close our store for lunch. We have a very polite worded sign on the door. I'll be walking with my food to the back and they try and bang on the door, put their arms up like "what the f**k?? You're not going to serve me??" And there's literally another gas station kitty corner to us. Edit to clarify: where I'm from(Sacramento, California) you pay at the pump with card and pump gas yourself. I'm not stopping most people from getting gas by taking my lunch(ONLY thing that stops people from getting gas is if they're paying with cash, but most people don't. There's no discount at my store by paying with cash rather than card) The only thing they can't get is cigarettes, beer and snacks. But as I stated, there is another gas station right across the street. I am also entitled to a lunch, just as every other worker in America.

I'm eating my meal in the nurse's break room. We can't close the door because we might not hear an emergency. Our break room happens to be in the nursing station. People coming to the desk can see us. Someone's family member will come to the desk and just stare at you. They'll keep it up until you can't stand it anymore. So, you get up and go over. What do they say? "I don't mean to interrupt your dinner but...." im thinking "You sure as he!! did.". Then they ask me about some insignificant little thing and they know it is. I once read an article about men who used to abuse their wives/gfs, but got help, so they don't do that anymore. One guy they talked to said, "For years, I changed cities, I changed states, I changed jobs, I changed friends...nothing seemed to make a difference. Then it finally dawned on me that *I* was the only constant in the equation. Once *I* changed my own behavior, everything else fell into place."

Yeah, rage is not reason. Restorative justice is. People are just looking for anyone who does a single public sin whether accidental or not, so they can scapegoat them for all their own frustration. Ruin their life because something they did ruined their day. Maybe just giving a chance to make amends shows what’s really in the person’s heart. There is a line, though, where evil should be purged. Severe hate crime, for example.

I think this one should have a caveat. In obvious cases yes, like someone parks horizontally across vertical spaces, definitely, but if someone has parked perfectly parallel to the parking lines but happens to be in 2 stalls, I wonder if they did this because when they got there, cars on either side were parked wonky forcing them to also park wonky.

Many years ago I volunteered in a community project and amongst other things I ran the print room.my periods were unpredictable so I kept a box of tampons behind the toner cartridges. One day I started my period suddenly but when I went to get a tampon the box was empty. I knew the admin was on her period so I went up and borrowed a pad from her, then told my manager I was going out to buy tampons because someone had taken all mine. She’s furious because I’m a single parent on benefits and she knows my finances are bad (part of my motivation for volunteering was a free meal, bus fares and saving money on heating. At this point a worker from another project, who’s only with us 2 days a week admits she used them because she didn’t think they belonged to anyone! She couldn’t have gotten through them all in the few hours she worked with us so she must have taken the whole box away with her!

I worked in an office where we had our own fridge/small kitchen area. A coworker liked to bring a half-gallon of milk because she liked having cold cereal for breakfast. When the weather got cold, I liked having hot cocoa. It tastes better with milk than with water, so I'd always ask her if I could use some of her milk. Granted, it was only a tablespoon or two, but still, it's nicer to ask than to just take. She always said yes, for which I was grateful, but if she'd ever said no, I wouldn't have been upset--it is her milk, after all.

Things like “leave it the way you found it”, “put it back where you found it”, “if you borrow something, give it back promptly and in the same condition it was given to you”, “always clean up after yourself”, “if it’s not yours, always ask permission before touching it”, “always say please and thank you, as well as ma’am and sir”, “don’t run and yell in public”, “stay in your seat when we’re out in a theatre or restaurant”, etc. Now, when I was little—-I’m 61 now, so I’m talking about the 1960s—-there were kids who would run and scream in a restaurant, and kids who would totally destroy the toy section in a store, so those aren’t new problems. But teaching your children about common courtesy, manners, and how to act around other people is as old as time—-and valuable. Antisocial kids become antisocial adults.

I can testify that it’s true! I’ve got three abusive brothers, one irresponsible sister, and I struggle with work and boundaries, even though my evil biological mother at least taught me some manners. And God taught me kindness. The currently married parents were abusive whenever something happened that reminded them they weren’t entitled to be neglectful. They just let us be wild animals, even enforcing it, and never so much as imparted a moment of wisdom to us. At least I can choose to improve a little bit each day, but I got a lot of abuse for insisting that my parents act like parents. And they maliciously kept me from trying to fill that role as an older sister. Manipulating us so we couldn’t even get along. It threatened their egos when anyone tried to act like an adult. Didn’t want kids. We hated each other, and blaming me was more convenient than being parents. Now I’m the only adult from that family. And I’m not the best at it, but I’m trying. It was Lord of the Flies back then.

Friends of mine did something that really worked with my nephew. They sat him down and went through a list of jobs they as adults in the house need to do, like vacuuming, dusting, get the cars washed. Loading the dishwasher etc. Then they explained that he had jobs to do also. Hang up his clothes, put them in the laundry basket when they're dirty, make his bed, pick up his toys. So, when they tell him they are going to take him swimming later if they have to tell him a couple of times he needs to do his job ie pick up his toys before they go, if he doesn't do his job then they'll have to do it. If they have to take up their time to do his job, that means they won't have time left to take him swimming. He tested it only a few times. Thereafter, he did his jobs.

My new roommates seem to be under the impression that we are all going to take turns doing dishes. Like, letting them sit for days until I can't stand it anymore. They're nice enough and pay their rent. I like a clean kitchen-I make maybe 4 dishes (including silverware) and I always wash as I go. Pet peeve for real.

I once helped my daughter in her new residential cleaning business. A woman wanted a bedroom cleaned. The whole floor was covered in clothes and 'stuff', we piled it all on the bed and cleaned the room. The owner obviously thought we were going to pick everything up, sort, fold and store it.

About "some methods". Telling a child "No, don't do that!" most of the time falls on deaf ears. A swat to the posterior is a very good reminder to the child of the seriousness of their action. Never swat in anger is a rule all parents should obey.

Person Online Inquires “What Screams ‘I Am Entitled?'”, And 30 People Provide Their Answers I went to private school for all of high school. It was even further divided by wealth because it was an American school in a foreign country, so most of the kids from there were very wealthy, did coke on Tuesday nights, and would buy their way into Harvard. The rest of the kids were pretty much all from military families who had the price of education covered. I used to take the city bus home from school (it was out in the suburbs). One day this mom in her shiny convertible car and 200 dollar jeans parks her car where it is completely blocking the road and goes to pick up her kid. When the bus drives up, it can’t get by. Bus driver honks for a couple minutes, but the mom is no where in sight. When she finally comes out, she’s not even bothered by the fact that she’s been blocking traffic for 10 minutes. She just takes her sweet time getting in her car with her kid and finally drives off. Still makes me mad to this day.

Or people who decide that the best place to have a conversation with their kid is at the drop off point in the line. Or the kid has their backpack stashed in the back seat and gas go open the back door to get it. Like, say your goodbyes and everything else before you get to the drop off point and have everything read to jump out the car and go.

They’ve sadly moved from milk to juice to just putting beer in the sippy cup. I’m not sure if I know what an grownup is anymore, other than a rotten overgrown kid on a tyrannical ego trip, because they can bully small children and get away with it. Something I never want to be. The reason I don’t like most kids are the reasons I don’t like most adults: Foolishness, inauthenticity, bullying, and entitlement. Immaturity in a nutshell. It’s not about age, but laying down the ego. Eventually, people show who they are. They generally have to be towards the beginning or end of their life, where the true colors come out in an understated spectacle, because beauty and cunning cannot be used as a mask anymore. Does this person value wisdom or ego? Selfish or selfless? Children lose their innocence, adolescents and adults their authenticity, and the old their excuses and disguises over what they’ve become. It’s the biggest character arc you will see in this life.

Those kinds of people usually have double standards as a parent. The kid can’t even put up a civil and polite complaint, and yet has to hear the parent acting like a fricken monster in the supermarket. It’s really horrifying, when you realize your parents have all the power of a tyrant, and the accountability of a baby. I’m surprised I managed to mature as much as I did, given the utter lack of nurture. I only had my mistakes, and God’s Grace to guide me.

I went shopping for a box spring once.. walked around the furniture store and not one sales person came up to me or responded when I asked for help. I went to customer service, and finally found a manager. I had to*tell* the manager to please help me because he was just going to find a sales person who had already ignored me. Another manager saw me instead and she came right away and sold me a box spring. The total sale took 5 minutes. I chose one, paid for it, and left (pick up was set for the date I was moving so I could just load it into my U-Haul).

Like so many things... it depends. I worked for a company that did not deal with the general public. It was business to business. In the lunch room there was one of those little, triangular shaped, desktop plaques. On side 1 it said "The customer is always right. When the customer is wrong, see side 2". On side 2, it said "See side 1". In a B-to-B situation, if your business is spread out over many clients, you can likely afford to to "fire" an unhappy client who you lose money catering to. In the consumer space, a happy customer tells 2 to 4 other people how great you are... while an unhappy customer gripes to a dozen or more people how lousy your business is.

This is so misquoted! The full quote is: "The customer is always right in matters of taste." Therefore, If I believe I look fabulous in Leopard print and zebra stripes, who are you to tell me I'm in the wrong? If I like tomato ketchup on my steak, who are you to argue? It does NOT mean that because I want it, exactly as I want it, I should have it, when I want it, and how I want it!
