Is it awesome? Yes. Does my inability to figure out where her belly button is now leave me a bit disconcerted? Also yes.
Omg that was my first thought, where the hell is the belly button!
Load More Replies...I see no shame in showing scars, but I have to admit this was very tastefully done in disguising what was for the person, something ugly.
Probably not very much. The belly isn't a very sensitive area, and there's probably a degree of nerve damage from the scar.
Load More Replies...Gorgeous tattoo aside, I love how the NGOC Like logo is covering the butt crack for censorship.
Are you named after two shera characters?
Load More Replies...These make me so happy knowing the people have risen above their "disfigurements" and made something astuondingly beautiful in its place. What a fantastic way to overcome and be reborn
So pretty. By the way, does anyone know what these bumps are? My partner's nephew has his back covered with them, and his confidence is so low. He won't go swimming or take his top off in front of anyone. His dermatologist said nothing could be done.
Please, Is there a treatment you did previous to tattooing in order to prevent these queloid scars from over-growing after the procedure? Are there pics a year later?
Tattoo artist Ngoc believes that every woman is beautiful and she doesn’t want anyone to struggle with their scars. The artist gives each and every client the care and attention they deserve.
Her attention to detail and skills are so good that it means that once the design is finished, you can’t even tell there was a scar there.
These poor women. I hope this gives them some comfort and happiness after such pain.
I don't think of it that way. I think about how strong these women are. Not a pity "these poor women", but a sign of strength. Instead of hiding scars they have been transformed into beautiful art. A part of the healing process. I have significant scaring from surgeries and would love to do something like this on my larger scars. Not to hide them, but to transform them to reflect my personal growth since the operations.
Load More Replies...I look for designs for my vertical abdo scar, but they are always floral, or vines, branches etc. I want something else, an illusion or distraction that isn't based around plants. In saying that however, this is good work, using the petals to hide the drag marks from the stitches etc
perhaps a sword could work! it could be on fire or have a snake wrapping around it to cover drag marks if necessary. you could turn your battle scar into a battle weapon!
Load More Replies...I work on medical records. Based on surgery notes I read, it sounds like things like ovarian cancer, bowel rupture, gall bladder rupture, etc can make the surgeon really open things up to get as much tumor out as possible, or make sure all the spillage gets cleaned out.
Load More Replies...Having lived with a similar, only much (much) deeper scar since age 4, I have to say if someone had done this in my 20's, I might actually have worn a bikini some time in my life. As it is? Nope. Never bared my belly and have been (still am) hugely conscious of what a mess it it. (Even docs and nurses suck their breath through their teeth at the sight of it) Absolutely awesome work. P.S. I made an account just to respond to this.
I doubt you will ever see my reply but I just wanted to say that there is nothing wrong or ugly or bad about a scar and I hope one day you feel able to go to the beach in a bikini
Load More Replies...I have a friend who got a tattoo after a full mastectomy. I would say something like "when life gives you lemons" but she would likely beat the c**p out of me.
After a mastectomy (which I also had), you have no feeling anyway.
Load More Replies...That’s most likely a congenital melanocytic nevus and shouldn’t be tattooed on. https://tattify.com/tattoo-over-birthmark/
Agree... I work on medical records, mostly cancer cases, and skin lesions should be left "clean" to monitor for changes that could point to melanoma.
Load More Replies...“There are two main types of birthmarks, which have different causes: Vascular birthmarks happen when blood vessels don't form correctly. Either there are too many of them or they're wider than usual. Pigmented birthmarks are caused by an overgrowth of the cells that create pigment (color) in skin.” https://kidshealth.org/en/parents/birthmarks.html
Load More Replies...The Vietnamese artist hopes that her designs can give everyone a new appreciation of what tattoo art can achieve. It’s not just about beauty (though a large part of it is)—it’s also about healing, spiritually.
Body art can have a far greater positive effect than many people might initially think.
I guess everyone feels differently about stretch marks, I'd never considered them scars but I guess they are? All these ppl are beautiful with and without tattoos, it's their reclamation of the body
I bet they bothered this person for years. Stretch marks start out as red for many years. I have some.
Load More Replies...My stretch marks are my zebra marks. I have a condition called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome that causes me to have many stretch marks, among other more serious things lol.
It would never have occurred to me to cover my scars. I cringe at the thought. I've heard tats are painful and I can barely tolerate a touch there even though they're 60 years old.
Shes lucky to be alive. Those look very much like the stab marks I've seen on patients in my nursing before I quit and became a butcher. I love how beautiful these are and now only the woman doesn't have to be physically reminded every damn day that someone tried to destroy her beauty.
I hate keloids! I considered plastic surgery to hide the (surgical) one on my ankle, but there's no guarantee my body wouldn't just make it there again. Thankfully it flattened out over the years and you can hardly see it. I love the idea of a tattoo over them though. I wonder if it's painful? My scar was incredibly sensitive for years. I couldn't even stand the hem of my pants touching it.
If you look closely the flowers are super close to the shape the scars actually had, that is fantastic work
I noticed that on several of these, the artists are talented indeed.
Load More Replies...Yeah, the flowers look great, but honestly my brain was trying to make sense of (what I guess is) the dress. Like it’s exactly skin tone. I thought it was a separate set of scars or something at first. And, actually, I’m still not 100% about it being clothes.
Gorgeous and ouch, the underarm is so tender especially for tattoos x
Ngoc is pushing boundaries with her work, considering that tattoos have been stigmatized in Vietnam for a long time.
Historically, tattoos had a bad reputation due to their association with prisoners, and later, with organized crime. However, times are changing and perspectives are (slowly) shifting.
The delicacy of this work is astounding. I almost expect the petals to flutter in the breeze. 🌸
I am usually against neck tattoos, I think they are for the most part trashy. This one however is very beautiful!
Whatever trauma these women suffered I'm glad that were able to get these tattoos and make themselves feel better. I think this tattoo artist is doing great things.
This looks like scarring from weight loss surgery, a full circumferential body lift.
Load More Replies...Bwahahahaha. Me too! But that’s not a succulent. The buds and leaf pattern make me think peony. But that’s not right either. Bueller?
Load More Replies...Who in the world butchered that person? I hope they sued for malpractice!
The scar looks like it was a tummy tuck/skin removal done by someone with zero training and a worse attitude. I can't imagine how much pain, psychological, emotional, mental and physical this person (and so many others on this list) have endured. The tattoos make the scars look beautiful and I can only hope that is able to bring them some joy
Man, they must feel so beautiful and restored after such traumas. Heck with tons of expensive plastic surgery that often doesn’t come out like someone wanted, find an artist. These are amazing.
The scar looks like a mouth with it's tongue out. I would have gone with a funny face 👀
An opportunity wasted, could have been an awesome Jabba the Hut !!
Load More Replies...This is a c section scar....ladies this is legit the most beautiful scar you can have! This art is beautiful and but plz don't cover this scar out of shame
Yes, c-section indeed. I have a much more discreet scar, still recovering (15 months), the surgeon did an amazing job and I put oil on it and rub it every single day. Take care of your scars, they will thank you. No sun for 3 years and oil/cream everyday.
Load More Replies...A mí me encantó el tatuaje, más si a quien lo lleva le da seguridad y confianza. ¡Felicitaciones!
The point of the tattoos is to turn something ugly into something beautiful, nailed it!
I know it is for her baby, but it's fine to cover it up. Maybe it was unplanned and frightening. Plus, it did look menacing! It's okay to want to cover it.
that must have been painful to go through...
Trust me, I know scars, had one myself... undertale_...aebeb2.png
I love my c-section scars. They make my tummy look like it's smiling. Happy reminder of the best days of my life, when my sons were born.
The artist started Ngoc Like Tattoo all the way back in 2012, right after she turned 19. In 2015, her project really took off and she started gaining more and more traction online. Ngoc has a very broad background in art.
i love your username more than i can express
Load More Replies...I used to want to hide all my scars, cover them up with tattoos, but, honestly, I wear them with pride. Yes, I hurt myself, but I overcame it and what's left are my battle scars
Load More Replies...But this looks edited? They all do, you would still see some of this scar tissue in the after and they're showing absolutely none at all
I'm gonna get a black heart over my sh scars so they show through and remind me what I've survived
Mine are a part of what makes me who I am. I personally don't want to cover that up. Otherwise I have nothing to show for the struggles I've been through. And only the emotional scars would remain
You know, after having come far enough, even my emotional scars are a perverse point of pride. They made me who I am, and who I am has survived an awful lot. Some people may think I'm a bit maladjusted but I think I'm tougher than they are!
Load More Replies...This is a good idea. Going to look into what I can create for mine.
She decided to come to my studio with a long road trip from Ha Giang to Ha Noi to do tattoo. She told me that she got this 15cm scar was 10 years ago in an accident which broke her arm bones. No one wish to have a scar on our body, she tried the cutting scar method, sewed it but still it was bigger, even tried the deflation but only temporarily flattened but still very dark, and then she thought about getting a tattoo to cover it. So, I designed a softly flower, helps it more modern generally looking and limit the invasive area to avoid it too much bigger.
I thought this was a centaur arm set up or a Goro or Kintaro and I tried to call the mayor to alert them but they said it was a McDonald's and that not everything is a Goro or Kintaro.
She graduated as a valedictorian in Costume Design in 2015. She also got a Master’s degree in Motion Pictures Arts and Television from the University of Theater and Performing Arts of Hanoi in 2022. This year, she was featured in Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list.
I agree and such a noble way to use it. I had a friend who was a tattoo artist and found she had a knack for delicacy and realism. She quit the shop and partnered with a dr to do low cost restorative nipple tattoos and permanent makeup for cancer patients.
Load More Replies...It was an accident from 10 years ago has left a huge scar on her leg, unfortunately happened by a drunk guy crashed into her motorbike from the back, she was shaken unknown what was happening at the time. This unlucky situation made her leg bones broke from inside and emergency rushed to the hospital. Hope this tattoo will make her life the fullest confident of the rest and best of joy.
Gorgeous work! You provide an invaluable service! A scar can really affect your self-esteem! Thank you!!!
I thought when I saw it, that looks like a bike injury, not sure why
I thought when I saw it that looks like a bike injury, don't know why
Her accident and the scar that remained happened very much like mine in 1969, except that the drunk driver struck me on the left side, shattering both the tibia and fibula, and the bones on Xray looked like a bunch of splinters. I was in a plaster cast from hip to foot for 1 1/2 yr. Great job with the tattoo, I just live with my scar but I stay off motorcycles.
Maybe this one is psychological, in therapy you're often told to imagine talking to a cute baby animal the way you speak to yourself in your mind (hyper critical) and you just can't. You want to look after the baby animal and nurture it with kindness. Maybe a reminder to the person about this.
I was taught stretch marks and self harm marks are called tiger stripes/scars...
he will always be giving a hug because he knows what you were going through and he loves you and doesnt jusge.
According to her website, she trained as a professional painter and designer at one of the most prestigious art schools in Vietnam. “I had a lot of opportunities in my work, but after a lot of experiences, it dawned on me that covering scars with tattoos is the endless passion that I really want to stick with and truly belong to,” she writes.
I’ve had a hysterectomy, tubes tied, hernia repair, appendix out, a colon resection with temporary colostomy and now another scar from colon reconnection. My stomach and pelvic area look like a dead end road map going nowhere. I wish I could have her do mine!!!♥️
A total hysterectomy. A C-section. Gallbladder surgery.
Load More Replies...oh no i see it and cant unsee it now
Load More Replies...oooh, this one is pretty! The only sad thing about these types of tattoos is that the colours will fade pretty quickly
I don't know...with proper sun care it may be fine. I've had cherry blossoms with similar colors across my back for almost 20 years and they're still perfectly colored.
Load More Replies...It's beautiful but her scars look like her wings were shed.. either way is wonderful
Sadly, her scars look like attempted homicide. Domestic violence survivors too frequently carry such marks, and I've seen way too many on autopsy and evidence photos.
Load More Replies...Ngoc writes that this path came due to a “strange twist of fate” and pursuing a career as a professional tattoo artist “completely changed” her life.
“To me, every scar brings a new challenge, they are not only mere coverups for stories and feelings but also fateful milestones that mark the closing of the past and the opening of a new chapter in life.”
These are all just so outstanding! The energy she imparts in her work is just radiant.
it could be a skin condition, or scars from something bad. Some skin conditions can appear almost symmetrical tho!
Load More Replies...I really love the placement of these and would consider a tattoo like that even without scars.
The Vietnamese artist finds joy in helping people get over their insecurities and bringing more happiness into their lives. What she does isn’t just cosmetic therapy: “It can also heal broken hearts.”
Previously, the artist told Bored Panda: “My passion is all about tattooing over scars, burns, birthmarks, or any imperfections on the bodies. I believe that a well-done, beautifully constructed tattoo will not only change a person’s image but also lift their confidence and overcome insecurities.”
Burn scar. Explanation is at the bottom of the photo.
Load More Replies...I really hope that scar isn't from what I think it is :(. I hope that the person is doing better now and getting help for it
You're kind for sending those thoughts out & I agree. Less traumatic option, though: I have an aunt who had to have her thyroid removed and has an almost identical scar.
Load More Replies...The scar from my thyroidectomy is within the normal creases in the neck. No one would ever notice it unless i raised my head and pointed it out. If this is from a thyroidectomy, the surgeons were sloppy.
Depends on where and who did the work. Some people don''t heal as well as you did. If the incision opened up, it could look like this.
Load More Replies...It could have been from a life saving trachea operation maybe. Glad she’s still here to enjoy her life and what it has to offer her and others 🙏
My immediate thought was that scar was from a tracheotomy, but apparently nobody else thought the same. Two years ago, my daughter had half of her thyroid removed because of a goiter that was so large they couldn't remove it through her neck. The doctor said it was the size of a grapefruit; her scar runs from her neck to her navel.
That was my first thought too but a trach scar wouldn't be as large.
Load More Replies...Either a thyroidectomy or cervical disc surgery.
Which of the artist's designs wowed you the post, dear Pandas? What do you think of her work and her mission to help people? We'd love to hear what you think, so if you'd like, you're more than welcome to share your thoughts in the comments.
Is it the case that many of these very beautiful but delicate tattoos will need to be touched up every couple of years ever after? If so, such a pity. Who knows if the person touching it up ten years down the line will do a good job.
As someone who is heavily tattooed: Here you have crisp and clean outlines, that are not too close together. It should last you a lifetime. The red hues will fade out a bit, but it will always be easily recognizable as a gorgeous flower. But get those black outlines, especially in a place that is exposed to the sun quite a bit.
Load More Replies...Mine has never needed a "touch-up" (also called a redo) after 21 years.
I think she is doing a great service to these people lives. U truly r an amazing and caring person. Kudos to u lady
I agree and love this one but they are all so exquisite.
Load More Replies...This is perfect. I bet they love it. From never let the tummy be seen to check it out!
So wish Ngoc worked in my country! My abdomen is full of many surgical scars from 17 yrs of Crohn’s surgeries (including an huge 30cm emergency bowel perforation). Wearing something beautiful on my skin instead of my twisted puckered contorted scars would make a traumatic visual reminder into something I could look on with admiration.
This might not be a good idea - I could be wrong but what ive read and understood from a close friend who had a large mark like this. is that larger birthmarks and moles can potentially be cancerous and it's not a good idea to go and do unnecessary trauma on top of them since that can activate the cells.
My first thought before I saw the pic footer saying Eczema. I would have never guessed that was Eczema. Would have guessed moles.
Load More Replies...Please note that the caption is wrong. This is not eczema but a birth mark (congenital melanocytic nevus) und should not be inked!
especially since any kind of birthmark could be, or turn, cancerous. Always get birthmarks and moles checked out by a dermatologist if they change at all!
Load More Replies...Any size mark or mole can be cancerous. A small flesh colored mole smaller than a pencil eraser, at the outer corner of my eye started feeling... just... wrong when in my 30s. Had it removed and pathology showed precancerous changes in it. Plastic surgeon did such a fantastic job, I have no visible scar.
I have eczema and even at it's worst it never looked like that. Maybe you should get that checked
So beautiful!! I wish I could do the same with my psoriasis, but it would only make it worse. I'm so glad these ladies were able to cover their scars with something so lovely!
In case anybody was curious about the procedure: https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/10793-intussusception
For all you lazy ppl (like me) - it's when a part of the intestine pushes in to another part of the intestine.
Load More Replies...this one is prob the only one i don't like. it's not a delicate or creative like the other ones just a stick of itty bitty flowers
True, but we don't know the context here. Maybe that person wanted something minimal, covering strictly the scar. In which case a sprig of lavender is just the thing.😉
Load More Replies...I have that exact scar! A 33 inch incision around my 41 inch hips.
The majority of them appear to be tummy tucks. Some are c-sections and theres one possible cervical disc replacement, the others appear to be burnings and major wounds.
Load More Replies...The circling of the belly button looks quite harsh and makes this different from all the other tattoos, which are very delicate. Probably done by a request, but still looking weird.
I think she did an amazing job and changed this woman's life forever.
Load More Replies...Kinda looks like like a tattooed pubis tiara. Not a good or bad thing. Just interesting.
Must’ve been a personal choice. Clearly the artist’s preference is to use horizontal lines (like branches) on horizontal scars for better camouflage effect. But if she’s happy, that’s all that matters.
Well it’s a good thing it’s not your tattoo then isn’t it?! I think it’s beautiful. As a person who has had eight surgeries where they’ve had to go through my stomach at some point either higher or lower I would love to do this. It’s not up for you to decide whether it’s good or not. It’s up to the person who’s wearing it.
Load More Replies...I wonder how much photoshop clean up is used in after images. You can confuse the eye, but you can't tattoo away sagging skin.
photoshopping around a tattoo like this is going to be difficult. it's probably more likely that the person is pulling their skin tight; it looks like they're pulling their arms above their head, to me.
Load More Replies...Simple design but still Beautiful.. if she's a bigger person then she's not doing herself any favours by getting the tattoo done too early.
Why was it sooooo importen to tell us about the “ Bigger Person “… 🤔🤦🏼♀️ Negative….
Load More Replies...all of these are stunning and what a way to cover scars and other skin problems
I want to become a tattoo artist now! These women must feel FABULOUS after getting these. Bless Ngoc!
The skin is too saggy or the tattooist didn't take that into advisement when planning this one, honestly it's the only one l haven't liked and l'm a bigger person.
I really don't know what your being a bigger person has to do with anything. It certainly has nothing to do with this woman's tattoo and honestly you don't get to gatekeep what any woman does to their body regardless of their size. If it makes them feel good then hell yeah do it. Seriously, what are you getting out of putting other women down? Does it make you feel better about yourself? We should be uplifting each other, not tearing each other down.
Load More Replies...Oh my, you are right! When mistakes like this are made from such an exquisite artist, I only hope that it was maybe an inside joke between the person who received the tattoo and the person who they are remembering.
Load More Replies...I'm pleased these people reclaimed their bodies, it's so important! Great tattooist. Some people can wear scars as a tattoo in itself. I'm a dichotomy of opinion. My scar on my back is mine, and I wouldn't change it (received at age 6). My abdomen scars I hate. I woke up with them after emergency surgeries, and it was a shock(received at age 30). I resent them and want to reclaim my tum. If anyone knows of good art that isn't branches/flowers/vines, thatcould be a good starting point for designs, let me know in the comments! I welcome ideas, it's important it be just right so it's a process You all might have ideas I would never have thought of 😅
I think that a lightly done calico/your favorite color or pattern cat stretching or playing with yarn would cover them nicely
Load More Replies...Yes, these are women. Most men are like "Yeah, this is when I got stabbed in a bar fight. Oh, and let me show you this one on my leg from when I crashed my motorcycle.."
🤣 stares at my husband's scar on his leg he got from a motorcycle crash...
Load More Replies...on my top surgery scars, I'm thinking of getting vines growing over barbed wire. I think this symbolizes how I felt trapped in my body but now I am getting freedom
Many of these are stunning, but some of my scars are so sensitive that I cannot bear them to be touched. How painful would the process be?
if they're so sensitive that you don't want to touch them I wouldn't recommend this lol. Tattoos over scars can hurt more than on regular skin, especially with nerve damage.
Load More Replies...Genuine question! My tattoo avoids my TB injection site / bump because the tattooist said hitting scar/such areas with a tattoo wasn't something she recommended. These are amazing, of course, but is it safe to go over scars? Please educate me!
My opinion is some scars are still recovering, itching, hurting, being uncomfortable from time to time. Those shouldn't be tattooed. Then after a while (years), they become 'neutral'. Some of them could be tattooed (depends on scar depth, topography and quality of the skin).
Load More Replies...Agreed. Right?! Their skin looked altered at times.
Load More Replies...Really beautifully done tattoos. Thank you for helping these women reclaim their bodies.
Bless the artist for doing such a beautiful work and lifting the spirit and boosting the confidence of each one of those people!
Amazingly gorgeous, all of them, I love the dandelion and space kitten. The artwork is incredible, her gift of making someone feel beautiful and whole again is priceless xx
