Art isn't created just to please our eyes; it also transfers ideas and provokes thought on social problems. Austrian cartoonist Gerhard Haderer has been producing satirical illustrations and cartoons for adults for decades now, highlighting the awful problems with society.

Gerhard Haderer had even faced the court for one of his brutally honest books, The Life of Jesus. It triggered violent reactions, because of the society problems discussed in it, in Europe, especially from the Catholic Church. The story culminated in 2005 when Haderer was convicted in Greece for insulting the religious community and was given a six-month suspended sentence in absentia. A few months later, however, this verdict was corrected on appeal, and Gerhard Haderer was acquitted.

The artist developed his realistic style when working as a graphic designer and illustrator for advertising agencies early in his career. It wasn't until a cancer operation in 1985 when Gerhard abandoned his commercial dreams and became a freelance caricaturist and satirical illustrator, mainly focusing on social issues. Scroll down to check out his unsettling and at times scary cartoons and vote for your favorites.

I see this comment a lot. Quite honestly, I don't mind other people taking pictures, or filming. I'm the one who cares about enjoying my experience. Also, I went to a concert some weeks back, my first one, and I did take pictures. The music was too loud for me really to enjoy it. Taking a few pictures and saving them - I generally enjoy remembering things so much more than actually experiencing them. And despite taking pictures, I'm still in the moment! I'm not zoning out, or thinking about how I'm going to arrange them in my journal. Why wouldn't you take a picture of a pretty sunset -especially if you're interested in photography, or even if you simply like pretty pictures? It only takes you a handful of second to take it. You are still experiencing it. I feel like people are complaining more about the over-sharing of these images, rather than the people «not enjoying their experiences'. That's a whole 'nother discussion.

A couple of pictures would not bother me. But constantly taking pictures or filming does, especially when it is in my view like 2 weeks ago at a Cirque du Soleil show. Everyone was allowed to take pictures, but not film. And this woman 1 seat to the left in front of me was constantly filming. It was pretty annoying. We were sitting in a wheelchair area (with seats in front, but it was not all sold out, and no one sat in these chairs). So in the break my partner and I asked the staff (who bring people to their places) if we could sit next to the chairs in front (well, me next to the chairs, my partner on a chair on the outside). When we sat there, that lady came up to us asking if we could move. We said no, and we weren't allowed to. That was the only spot we could sit said the staff.

So we just told her no, we are only allowed to sit in this seat (and next to it) according to the staff. She complained to us that she would not be able to see anything. (what if it was sold out and the seats in front of us were filled? Would she have complained too? She was already sitting at the end of the row) If she just moved herself to the spot we were previously sitting in, she would have “seen” the show perfectly, if this was really the case, so I ask myself why she did not do that. But my guess is that she only complained because she could not film the whole thing anymore. Which she was doing in smaller parts and looking to make sure staff did not see her film. Things like that, and constantly photographing really don’t let you enjoy the experience. Especially in this case because she was also watching if the staff did not see her film. So with my good heart, I hope she DID enjoy the second half of the show!

Honestly, I don't see what's wrong with this. You go out into nature; obviously you enjoy it -you think it's beautiful enough that you want to remember it later or share the experience with a friend. My phone is filled with shots of things that I've found interesting, amusing, informative, or beautiful, and sometimes I scroll through and re-live them a bit. I get a chuckle; I get memories. It is only this way because my life was also filled with those moments.

How is taking a picture of something beautiful "something wrong with society"? The theory of the camera has been around since 400 BC. Camera obscura was a technique using a lens in a darkened room to capture and reflect light of something on to a paper and then traced by hand since 1500. The first photograph (that is known of and is still in existence) dates back to 1820s almost 200 years ago. You can easily enjoy a sunset for an hour or more and it takes a few seconds to capture the beauty of it which can then last for several hundred years! So someone please come with a proper explanation of how taking a photograph is something wrong with modern society.

I can't understand people who think that everything enjoyable will only last a split second! You see something you enjoy you take a picture which only takes a few seconds then you go on enjoying the thing for up to several hours! Complete idiots! Do you think something you enjoy looking at will disappear once you take a picture of it? Complete idiots!

Why is everyone clumped up in a group? I'd have my Pentax, a bag of lenses and a tripod. I would be inspecting the shoreline and grasses for critters. I would be looking for birds, maybe checking out the creative sunflare produced by the lens already paired with my camera. I would relish the beauty around me the slanting of the sun rays, the sparkle of the water, the smell of ocean in the air and the sounds of the birds. My phone would have the ringer turned off so it would not disturb my enjoyment of where I was, I want to get lost in the viewfinder because that's where the creativeness is.

i kind of felt like it was showing how each of them see it a little differently. different people line up different shots, changing the focal point. i'm sure it's meant to be a phone criticism, but i like to see it as multi perspective.

Photos are so important! It can be kind of annoying when someone takes 75 pics and never puts the phone down but when you lose someone very close to you and photos are all you have, you will be grateful for taking them.

I do this to the extreme. I’m glad I have too. On a trip to Philadelphia on a tour bus I about drove the guides nuts because I was holding up the bus taking those last few pictures. For those who did not take pictures I feel bad. I hope they have very good memories. My memory sucks . I have hundreds of pictures of that trip and I still love scrolling through them ten years later. I fact that folder of images is my screen saver on my Mac. Simply put, I cherish those memories in digital.

I thoroughly enjoy my experiences. I'm even conscious of being in the moment at the time. However, as I also thoroughly enjoy photography, I also take moments for that as well. This is for me. If someone else feels they don't need to take pictures, then don't. It really shouldn't be an issue.

I hate it when people get all judgemental about people take photos or videos at events instead of "living in the moment". First off we've been doing it since the drawing was invented, let alone the camera. Secondly, we ALL like to reminisce and photos/videos help us do that. Thirdly, you don't know why were doing it - it could be to show someone else, it could be for a print, it could be for inspiration- I do it because I have memory problems and won't remember it much afterwards, it at all. Fourthly, gtfover yourself, it's none of your damn business why we're doing it, move on with your own damn life and leave us to it.

There is nothing wrong with taking a photo of a beautiful sunset, but I think what the artist is trying to say is that we are sometimes looking at life too much through our small phone screens, instead of seeing the bigger picture. The answer is to take a picture, then put the phone away and feast your eyes on the broad horizon that the sky and sea always offer. Later on you might make a drawing from your photo, but make the most of living in the present.

I have boxes of paper photos from my trip to America 30 years ago. They're a bit faded and denatured by now, but still, I can look back and remember things that I don't actually recall any more. I've been to concerts, and I enjoyed them at the time, but a lot of it is pretty much faded in a week. That's what photos have always been for, aide memoir. Ok, you probably shouldn't try to video an entire concert, but I see nothing wrong with a few snaps to remind you
