More and more people these days are becoming childfree by choice, in turn celebrating time, freedom, and opportunities they have reserved for themselves. Meanwhile, economists have pointed to the fact that the fertility rate has fallen every year since 2007, as the Great Recession made millennials put off child-rearing for years.

But in order to get a glimpse of what childfree life is really like, you have to look at what people who opt out of having babies have to say about it. So we looked at the corner of Reddit “Childfree,” which is a place for discussion of the childfree lifestyle.

With a whopping 1.4M members, it surely has a lot to say on this matter, so let’s see some arguments on living with no kids right below. Also, after you’re done, be sure to check out part 1 of the post right here.

This has nothing to do with having kids or not, everything with education. I always remind my children to be careful in the presence of any kind of animals, never scare them, be respectful.

To find out what people who choose not to have kids have to say about the childfree lifestyle, Bored Panda reached out to Amy Blackstone, professor of sociology at the University of Maine and the author of “Childlfree by Choice: The Movement Redefining Family & Creating a New Age of Independence.

When asked if such a lifestyle is getting more popular nowadays, which it certainly feels like it, Amy said that it’s certainly more popular “in the sense that more people are aware of it as an option than ever before.”

According to the professor and book author, “That is largely thanks to the willingness of childfree people to speak out about their choice and of course to the decades-long work of reproductive justice advocates. Whether more people than in the past will ultimately remain childfree for their lifetimes remains to be seen.”

“Certainly more millennials are currently childfree than were previous generations at their age, but there hasn't been a dramatic increase in lifetime childlessness,” she said and added that only “time will tell whether today's millennials are opting out of parenthood altogether or simply delaying it.”

There's a common misconception that parenthood defines us unlike anything else. Amy said that there are “good reasons that this misconception is so common. Almost from the moment we are born, we are taught that becoming a parent is one of the most important milestones of adulthood. For this reason, it makes sense that folks might think that parenthood is the be all, end all experience.”

It’s hard to say whether opting not to have kids will stay popular with future generations. According to Amy, “it depends on what we mean by 'popular' but if what you're referring to is whether the idea that having—or not having—children is a choice, I'd say that yes, our awareness of that reality will continue to grow.”

It’s just that more and more people are speaking out about their choice not to have kids. “And thanks to their bravery in speaking out, we now know that parenthood is simply one of many paths available to us,” she concluded.

It's ridiculous how women are denied agency over THEIR OWN DAMNED BODY and men can just do whatever they want. I mean, men can even walk away from their wife and child, not file for (joint) custody, and most people are like 'ah, divorce, too bad'. When a woman walks away from her husband and child and doesn't want custody, all hell breaks lose and she's painted like an evil villain.

CowboyHank, we understand and value your opinions. BUT! Abortion isn't murder. If it was, you could sue for it. If you believe abortion = bad, don't have one! simple as that! What you don't do is ruin a completely good post with your pro life bullshit. It's the same with others, don't ruin a good post with your pro- abortion bullshit. I am done with my angry Bored Panda rant!

My abortion sucked, but only because I hemorrhaged afterwards. It sucked. But having a sixth child would have sucked too. I've done my bit for overpopulation, and have four daughters who are extremely well educated on their rights to do whatever the f*** with their bodies and lives.

I'm and adoptive mother. I am pro-choice. My kids both know their mothers could have aborted them and they opted not to. After going through adoption I can say it's so very, very hard on the birth mothers. We heard stories from social workers about birth mothers being debased in the hospitals by nurses for "giving up their babies" even when the nurses knew this was the birthmothers plan. Our agency made sure the BirthM held the baby so they were doubly sure, just in case they wanted to change their mind. It sounds so easy, you don't want the baby just place it for adoption. It's not easy. People stick their noses into what is going on. Pressure. The list is lengthy. In many ways I'm surprised it even happens. BTW adopting is tough, as it should be, they should not just place a baby any ol' place. It's expensive and frustrating. Not everyone can afford to adopt or are willing to adopt.

CowboyHank, I'm a bit confused you told Jamie Clark that needing your body to filter her blood for nine months and not getting it would be a natural death. If a fetus cannot survive outside the body, isn't that a natural death? The sperm is "alive" as is the ovum. An embryo is formed and after several weeks a fetus. In reality all they are, are specialized cells dividing and multiplying. We have specialized cells throughout our bodies. A virus is a specialized cell that can be spread from person to person. When specialized cells go crazy no one objects to ending their lives. If you have cancer would you object to it being removed? Don't go to the "are you saying cancer is the same as..." No. I am saying that removing cells from your body that are dividing isn't murder.

Ok i get what most of you think about abortion and how its a womans body and therefore should be her choice, and therefore men should have no say in the matter. HOWEVER, imagine if your gf/wife/whoever got pregnant, (your the male in this scenario) and you were excited because you wanted a kid. The pregnant female, however, doesn't. You say that you are willing to raise the kid, no child support whatever it takes, because you want a kid. Now if that female goes and gets an abortion, she just took your kid from you. Wouldn't you be angry? I think it takes 2 to make a kid and therefore 2 should have a say in whether or not the baby gets aborted. Also, i really don't see the point in most abortions. If you didn't want a child, then you should be responsible. Even if you were responsible and still ended up getting pregnant (like my mom w/ me and my sister) then really i have no opinion there, so thats where im willing to listen to other peoples opinions. If you have a child who you want

Now imagine that you're a female and you have to go through an insane amount of pain, potential complications alongside that pain, being the only source of nutrition for the result of that pain for at least a year, and you can't opt out because the person who does not have to go through any of this says so. Wouldn't you be mad? I think that only 1 has to suffer in such a manner, and therefore only 1 should be allowed to decide. And furthermore, why and how a person got pregnant should not be considered relevant to whether or not they have an abortion.

This is not a good representation... first off I've said it before I'll say it again. Abortion is NOT birth control that pisses me off. If it's medically necessary - fine. Rape / Incest? I'm on the fence because adoption is a real thing especially for families that can't have children and want them. But to just abort because you don't use birth control is disgusting. And no everyone that doesn't have children become effing millionaires.

The average age to become a mother in my country isn't even until 30. I think in Italy and Spain its 31. So having a kid well into your 30's is completely normal here already and not "old". If anything, having a kid below 25 is considered extremely young.
