Punishments In Russian Army

Dedovshchina is Russian for the unofficial practice of initiation or hazing of junior conscripts of the Soviet Armed Forces. It can be literally translated as “rule of the grandfathers.” In 2006, the NYT reported that at least 292 Russian soldiers were killed by hazing; the Russian military admits that 16 were murdered, and claims that the rest committed suicide.

Same in French army but smaller :) you have to carry it after you forgot your gun somewhere... and write your gun number on it each time you have to carry it... Sweet memories x)

btw this is not a punishment, this is part of a training exhibition, intended to show how strong they are. (wish our armed forces would still do this, instead of being so politically correct) And berfore you start your hate comments.. yes, I`m a veteran and we used to train like hell in the late 80`s and 90`s, and NO, we didn´t go crying home when a drill sgt. was specially tough on us.

I joined the Military in 1965. I had to hold a 303 rifle over my head and run around the parade ground for one hour. I usually lasted half an hour without a break. N ot like that now though.

I'm a veteran also, and I was retired medically in 2011, which was my second go around. Yes, the new breed of soldier, is populated with shitbags, and while it's not all, or even close to all of them, it gives the rest a bad name.
