Injured Postal Worker Maliciously Complies With This Rude Customer’s Demand, Teaches Him A Lesson About Not Messing With Union Workers

Recently, a story on Malicious Compliance went viral after a Redditor and worker from “the postal station from hell” shared an incident that happened while on duty. The author who goes by the handle TheExWhoDidntCare explained that she had a foot injury, which meant that “getting around is NOT easy for me,” while on a shift.

“Have a customer come in about an hour before closing, hands over two ‘Pick up your mail’ forms for certified letters,” the author wrote. As you may imagine, it wasn’t easy for her to move around to look for the letters in trays with hundreds of other letters like this. “So I hobbled to the longer-term storage area, about 10 feet from the door. I finally find both letters, and go to the window,” TheExWhoDidntCare recounted.

This is when the story takes a turn, because apparently, the customer was far from impressed for waiting three minutes to get his mail, which he said was “totally unacceptable” and now he wanted to speak to the manager. The author maliciously complied and set out on a journey to find the postmaster.

Union member here. I identify with OP's gratitude for the job security afforded by union membership and also their frustration with rude/abusive customers, however the purposeful time wasting seems like a childish, petty attempt at revenge. Job security should not serve as an excuse to behave in this manner. Yeah, some customers are difficult. That comes with the job. Grow up and don't sink to their level.

Nah, as someone who has worked both union and non-union jobs, there have been plenty of times I've had to just suck up abuse, and it's ok by me if a union worker wants to give someone a hard time for abusive behavior. It's like free education provided by the government!

So I live in Sweden. Not having unions is so wierd. It is also a lot easier for an employer to have contracts with unions. Because you move problems from the individ, and you have clear rules that all parties are supposed to follow. It is way more easy then handling everything on an individual level.

I agree. Unions also make firing people on the whims of a customer or a boss much more difficult and the result is that the employee doesn't have to tolerate straight up abuse from neither.

Join a union folks. I see the expression 'union job' and this also means fair treatment and good conditions. It's the same in my country except being in a union has never been frowned on and rights and conditions are good for all employees. Get in a union, make your employer recognise it. YOU will benefit and it will stop them treating you like dirt..
