After two members of the Bored Panda team traveled to Romania on vacation, they were absolutely inspired by this country. This often-overlooked tourist destination is a hidden gem filled with beautiful forests, regal castles and epic mountains.
Owing to its rich medieval history, Romania is positively saturated with beautiful castles in various states of repair. The country also has a huge amount of undisturbed forest (and the largest population of brown bears in Europe), making it a great destination for nature lovers. With the Carpathian mountains running through the center of the country, the combination makes for some unforgettably memorable views.
If you're from Romania or if you've been there on vacation, we'd love to see your favorite sights! And don't forget to vote for your favorite photos on this list.

Black Church - Brasov
It took centuries for the construction that started in 1383 to be finally completed, the violent attacks of the Ottoman and Tatar armies destroying or at least delaying substantially the process. In the end, the church was finalized in 1477, but at a smaller scale given the scarce resources and the constant threat of a new attack against Brasov. Still, the worst came in 1689 when historical Brasov was destroyed by a devastating fire. Only the walls, the font and the treasury from the vestry survived from the edifice that is known as the Black Church ever since. The monument was rebuilt in the 18th century, but its restoration continued up to recent years.

I`m from Romania and these amazing pictures reopened my eyes! Thank you:)!
This is the real image of Romania. We are not a country of gypsies, but one of wonders.
The wrong perception of others is based on either ignorance or bad personal experience. It says nothing about romanians.
Load More Replies...These photos gave me a new view to Romania - much better than I used to have. They made me want to travel to this beautiful country.

Load More Replies...When I was a child, we used to spend our summers in Romania; a village called Snagov. It was beautiful. I feel like going back now. Wow.
As a Dracula fan I've always wanted to go. Now I know I have to it's stunning
You have to visit Sighisoara summer time - maybe around the Medieval Festival too :)
Load More Replies...My husband & I traveled to this beautiful country for a few days, but stayed a week! Loved our stay in Poem Boem, a villa in Transylvania
i leave near romania , but my sister live here , in Cluj-Napoca , i was in mountains , SO beautiful !!!
This post it's about Romanian beauty and you people discuss the bad. There are bad things in every country.Try being positive for a change!!
My lovely country, full of magic and wonders, filled with secrets that hide in the sparkling rivers and mysterious forests! <3
What's lovely in your country was all taken away from Hungary.
Load More Replies...Beautiful, but I'm annoyed at how overly colorized everthing is... Could be more natural and this would definitely not affect the beauty!
I'm from Romania too and I have to tell you that there are a lot of other beautiful places here. We are also very kind and peaceful people.
no 21 is the transalpine road...the highest road from romania. And also, you should visit Rosia Montana
Love this country, being lucky to see and experience it 20 yers ago.....
Thanks for the photos. The Keep horror novel written by F.Paul Wilson in 1981 could be filmed here. The 1983 film was shot in Wales.
These beautiful places are in Transylvania. All used to belong to Hungary before the Trianon treaty which was the most unfair treaty in the History of Europe. All these places have Hungarian names and they have been forcefully romanized.
😀😀😀 Transilvania belongs to Dacia,a time Hungary didn't existed.
Load More Replies...I am from Romania too, and I am very proud about MY COUNTRY! I cannot wait to return HOME, some day.... This is ROMANIA!!!
This is all Hungarian territory that was robbed from us.
Load More Replies...An important mistake, the picture with a caption saying "Sarmizegetusa Regia" -it's actually the Roman Forum of Sarmizegetusa Ulpia Traiana!

Seems like everybody is upset about Photoshop. My uploads have no Photoshop touch.
I Romanian, and I visited more than half of those places, and they look nothing like in the pictures...That is photoshop.
Bored Panda, please, I want deleted all the photos I uploaded yesterday! Thank you!
Thank you for all these wonderful pictures! Romania is one of Europe's best kept secrets!
