Retirement can free up some of your time, providing an opportunity to pursue your passion, and one happy couple is doing just that. Steven and Millie Tani from Southern California (who have been married for 27 years) discovered cosplay 3 years ago when they were looking for costumes for Halloween, and haven't looked back ever since.
The Tanis say it takes them up to two months to create a costume. At first, they try to make use of whatever items they have at home but if that's not enough, they explore thrift stores or online websites like eBay and Etsy.
Now, they're participating in various cosplay events. "We are both basically very shy and introverted individuals, so when people started to ask to take pictures of us in our cosplays, we were first taken aback by the attention we were getting," the couple told Mashable. "We [also] weren't sure how people would react to us as an older Asian couple ... but many have welcomed us and ... we are feeling more comfortable and have gained more new friends."
"We will continue with this cosplay adventure while our health holds up. We don't want to sit around in rocking chairs, as we want to enjoy our golden years and live life to the fullest. It's almost a 24/7 labor of love coming up with new cosplays, so hopefully, we can squeeze in another 10 years."
