Lady Shows Tiktok How She Settled In An AirBnB Only To Discover Her Window Was A One-Way Mirror Into A Restaurant

Finding short-term accommodations couldn’t be any easier than it is now. Services like AirBnB streamline it to such a degree that you can have a place to stay even if you leave for your destination now, and be there by the end of the day. Technology, man.

But, like any service, it ain’t perfect, and that’s fine, cause we here on the internet love it when it’s not perfect as it gives everyone a chance to discuss, cry, and, most importantly, laugh and be amazed at how this is a thing.

This one woman actually had an AirBnB experience that is the right amount of imperfect, making everyone online talk about it to a viral degree.

AirBnB has loads of interesting accommodations, but Desiree Baker managed to find a top contender for the most interesting one on the site

Meet Desiree Baker, a young lady who has recently had the honor of experiencing one of the most bizarre AirBnB choices currently available on the planet.

You see, what she signed up for was a two double-bed nice well-lit room with a smashing view in Times Square, NYC, but what she ended up getting is kinda that, except the view was not Times Square, or anything remotely close to resembling outside, but the interior of a restaurant.

Yes, you read that correctly. The interior of a restaurant.

Baker booked a room in Times Square, NYC with a skyline view, that looks like this (below)

But surprise, surprise, her view was actually of a restaurant dining area, and there were even people within arm’s reach!

As of the moment of the first video, Baker did not want to disclose any particulars of the exact location for safety reasons, but now that her stay is over, she explained that it’s a place adjacent to the Tempura restaurant on 9th Avenue between West 38th and 39th Streets, New York City.

So, in particular, Baker posted a TikTok video explaining the reality of the view she got. She showed how the windows, once you opened the blinds, were literally facing a restaurant interior. There’s even a table set up with people dining at the window.

“I roll up the shades… and we are in a restaurant. We are fully in a restaurant. I can open up this window and fully join these people at their dinner, at their lunch,” explained Baker in one of her videos.

At first, it looked like she was exposing herself and her entire room to the people in the restaurant, but thankfully, those were one-way windows. Oh, and yes, you can open the window. You can actually enjoy the restaurant through the window, without even leaving the room.

Baker did get in touch with the host, but they turned out to be useless in helping the situation

Eventually, AirBnB got involved after seeing her video on TikTok already going viral

Well, Desiree did try to contact the host about it, but it seems they have completely ignored the issue, assumed everything was well, and focused on how they tried their best to host her.

Soon after that, AirBnB themselves got in touch—this is after seeing her video on TiKTok—saying that they were giving her AirBnB credit as compensation, which she was happy with, and that they can’t do anything about it anymore as it’s past her stay, but they promised to follow up with the host.

The video soon went viral with over 10M views as of this article, and over 13K comments

The Daily Dot managed to get in touch with the host, who explained that they have 6 of 86 rooms with the views facing the restaurant, and they always default people to the rooms they advertise, but if those are booked, they are temporarily booked for the restaurant-facing ones at a lower price, and they always allow people to move up once those are free.

Needless to say, people online made the video go viral. As of this article, it has over 10 million views with nearly 2 million likes and 13,900 comments. The other videos weren’t as viral, but collectively managed to garner another 4 million views.

We’ve reached out to Baker for a comment, but she is yet to respond. You can check out all of her videos on the topic here. But before you go, let us know your thoughts on this room. Would you love to stay here, or not really? Share your opinions in the comment section below!

To go food should be super fresh and hot this way. Also who owns an apartment that opens into the restaurant? 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣

One way mirrors are, in fact, NOT truly one directional. They only work because of the light differential between the mirror side and the inside. If she turned her lights on & they were brighter than the restaurant a person sitting at that table would be able to see her. Not clearly but definitely visible.

Someone will soon discover the twilight zone that lurks behind the restaurant mirrors.

And this is why I only stay in reputable hotels. Yes, it costs more, but when there's a problem it gets taken care of a reasonable manner.
