Jill, a lovely squirrel in Louisiana that was rescued after she fell from her nest during a hurricane, has become an Instagram celebrity thanks to her adorable antics.

Her owner writes that, though Jill has a cage, she is usually given free run of the house. She is also trained to use a garbage can as her bathroom. Check out her Instagram for way more pics!

Photographs are adorable and the story is inspiring. However I am finding it difficult to believe that she likes to stay at home, instead of living in her natural habitat, as long as she is healthy...

Makes me miss the 3 I rescued a few weeks ago, decided they'd be happier in their natural habitat.

We all would like to see animals in their natural habitat but this little girl is quite happy where she's at. Squirrels live only a few years and 40% or more are killed to predators--cats and dogs! The eagles and hawks deserve them not domesticated animals. Bravo to the rescue and loving home; it is charming and Jill's instagram is adorable and fun.

Caring for an orphaned baby squirrel is very difficult. And if this baby couldn't be put with a foster mom squirrel, it would be hard for her to survive. Squirrels are wild animals but, as with other wild babies, making them pets can sometimes be preferable to leaving them to die. It takes a lot of dedication to make a pet of a wild baby, but the squirrel seems happy and comfortable with her situation, and with her adoptive family.

A squirrel that has been domesticated this much needs to stay this way. Other squirrels will never accept it and will bully it to death. Personal experience. I was made to put my squirrel out as a kid. Awful ending.

Your experience speaks volumes. It probably depends on the individual situation. I've even seen hand-raised raccoons so tame, they let their people dress them...and sit at the table to eat, using better manners than some humans do!

The headline is whacko -- the hurricane became the cutest member of the family, after which the squirrel was rescued? Let's eat Grandma! Let's eat, Grandma! Commas save lives! And they make run-on headlines intelligible.
