Illustrator Repaints Disney And Other Cartoon Characters In Her Unique Style, And They Look Better Than Original
Isabelle Staub is a US-based artist who specializes in portraiture and character design. Based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she uses her skills to turn cartoon characters and popular culture icons into her own unique and often super lifelike creations. Seeking drawing ideas in everything from Disney characters and princesses, Powerpuff Girls to Pennywise the Clown and Tarantino movies, Staub transforms each of these cartoon drawings with a wholly distinct style of her own. Scroll down to see her cool drawings for yourself, and click here for some of her best Disney work.
“From the moment I could hold a pencil, I was drawing and creating every day,” she writes. “Art is a direct reflection of the artist. As such, my beautiful drawings are a reflection of who I am, constantly evolving and improving and not limited to one medium or style. I let my art tell viewers a story, connecting them to a place, time, and emotion. I pour my heart, mind, and soul into every piece I create.”

Buttercup, The Powerpuff Girls
Pocahontas, Pocahontas
Ariel, The Little Mermaid
I like it. It's unfortunate that everyone feels they have to be so critical.
Kidagakash Nedakh, Atlantis: The Lost Empire
Tiana, The Princess And The Frog
I can't decide which I like better... #5 or #8. In both cases, the character seems to have been brought to literal life, with richness and depth. Amazing work!
Mulan, Mulan
Its perfect!! But maybe harder for her to be a man with a face as beautiful as this :DDDD
Nani, Lilo & Stitch
Meg, Hercules
Debbie Thornberry, The Wild Thornberrys
Penny Proud, The Proud Family
Kim, Kim Possible
If I had to guess from this picture, it looks like Kim is sassing someone again.
Cinderella, Cinderella
Am I the only one who thinks the Disney Cinderella looks like Lucille Ball?
Snow White, Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs
Belle, Beauty And The Beast
This is the first one I've seen where Ms. Straub kept that "Disneyness" in her portrait, that fresh-faced ingénue. Very nice!
Jessica Rabbit, Who Censored Roger Rabbit?
Esmeralda, The Hunchback Of Notre-Dame
Bliss, The Powerpuff Girls
Anastasia, Anastasia
Blossom, The Powerpuff Girls
Bubbles, The Powerpuff Girls
Jasmine, Aladdin
Moana, Moana
Aurora, Sleeping Beauty
Pennywise, It
Yeah, we haven't seen these kind of posts for a couple of weeks now.
There's no doubt the artist has talent, but for me there is not much understanding of the personalities of these characters. That's a shame cause their is obviously a lot of work gone in but all is see is superficial vessels without character.
I won't deny it, the artist has skill... at drawing the exact same facial expression over and over again. I mean, I did see some experiments on creating emotion, the Disney (and original versions) are waaay more expressive. I mean, almost all of the eyebrows look exactly the same! Plus "unique style" is a bit misleading. Quite a lot of people draw in this style, or a style very familiar. That's not really a problem, but you know, don't write it in the title if it ain't true. Despite all that, yes, they are pretty, yes the shading is lovely; really mad skills. But the artist should try to leave her comfort zone a bit more often, her art would get so much better!
I think they're all really good, the Power Puff girls did not give a lot to work with so I think they sort of became their own thing but the rest really capture the original characters while changing the art style.
This is so basic. Here we go again with the huge slanted eyes, puffy lips and teeny tiny or perky noses even on characters that have normal or big noses. So, so basic.
Well i like the original. New is cool but they look like the portraits of girls with heavy makeups and cometic surgeries..
The only thing I took out from this is that there is a fourth PowerPuff Girl :O
Huh. Well, I now know what all these characters would look like with lip filler and media expectation looks. They all look like they are ready to hit the stage at a strip club.
I think these are great! Each one is a version of Megan Fox, once you notice that, you can't unsee it
They don't necessarily look "better", just more realistic. "Realistic" doesn't necessarily mean "better". Cartoons are supposed to be stylized and quirky. It's an interesting project and the artist is definitely very talented, but these drawings lack character, IMO.
She does have talent, however it's totally different art when you have to animate than to do one static pose.
Yeah another "original" post. And yes...unique...just re-do in 3d. Meh.
So...Disney characters to Japanese porn anime characters......And what is this supposed to prove?
Lovely and talented drawings but I would like a bit of diversity here. There is too much similarity between faces, they all respect some specific model of beauty. I would like to see more different kind of eye shapes, mouth shapes and face shapes. That would be a nice challenge for such talented artist.
I enjoyed going through this list! The artist is very talented and the new versions represented and interesting interpretation of the characters. They weren't always what I would have picture the characters looking if they were more realistic, but they were all very well done and beautiful in their own way.
Everything in this post is amazing! The Power Puff girls didn't give much material, so I think she did really well with it. I think it looks amazing!
Honestly ive got no hate, these are actually very very well made...and im not even a disney fam. Kudos
i love the power puff girls. The fact that you can turn such a simple cartoon into such an amazing drawing proves you have amazing talent
These are beautiful. It's a pity some of the comments are so ugly. If I had even half of this kind of talent I'd be happy.
It's well done art, I'll give her that, but she drops the ball on the Powerpuff Girls. Those are just generic teeny boppers with the same colour palette as the girls, nothing more.
Can't say I like the new version.... out of all these only esmeralda and buttercup and snow white look pretty ....
Those original cartoon character were not ment to seduce a man, but to entertain a kid, or have a roll in a story that has some point Goood Looord

Um, Jessica Rabbit is from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit". "Who Censored Roger Rabbit" was the novel the movie was based on.
kinda sucks the comments are so negative. hardly critical as opposed to people being d***s. there's no need for all this. it's art. it's to be dissected and enjoyed but there's no need to be a d**k about it. it's just a..modern, different take /IN THE ARTIST'S STYLE/. it's kinda obvious. maybe if people weren't looking for them to be "realistic" they wouldn't react quite like this on both posts. but take it as it is and it's easy to appreciate the work.
Artist did a good job making the cartoon characters more life like. Eyes are big yes but wonderful still.
I would like to see this artist interpret images of characters from the Artemis Fowl books.
I suggest you do something original, Ms. Staub, instead of messing with these iconic characters. True, your renditions are more lifelike and hip but you should channel your talents somewhere else and leave these icons alone. Your remakes remind me of those faux Christmas carols I hear played on the radio. And they're inappropriately too sexy for the intended audience. Down vote.
I didn't like them or the idea itself. The transformation makes most appear sexual which in turn destroys the innocent cartoonish quality that we always adored about them. It is important to keep the innocence-childhood relationship intact.
I love this artist work! Should def. be working in the world of animation. The pieces are so lovely and have such depth to them!
Loved the powerpuff girls.. there was more room for imagination there...
weirdly creepy and scary to say the least. no expression at all. good for horror movie
